Important Halo 3 Guides & FAQs

Thesomeone 10-19-2007, 2:49 AM

Hey guys, in an effort to consolidate information and prevent the impending clutter of pinned posts, I have combined several existing Halo 3 FAQs and guides into this single thread. I know there were some good discussions going on in the individual threads, and apologies for unpinning them, but we feel that this is the best course of action to keep the forum running smoothly and minimizing the number of pinned threads. Feel free to add relevant discussion to this thread or keep posting in the existing threads; they'll still be around, just not pinned. Without further adieu:

Recon Armor FAQ by BOGEY117

I have noticed lately alot of threads mentioning Recon armor and the lack of knowledge about it that leads to many more threads on this topic. So, I have created a FAQ concerning everything about Recon Armor.

What is Recon Armor?

Recon Armor is an armor permutation only given out by Bungie. It is an exlcusive peice of armor worn by Bungie employees and the players of the community who have recieved it from Bungie. There is no way to access it yourself from doing certain things in the campaign/multiplayer such as having every skull on and beating the game on Legendary. Any rumor of this nature is false, only Bungie can hand out Recon.

What does Recon Armor look like?

This is a picture of the Recon Armor. It is most known for its helmet and shoulders.

How do I get Recon then?

Recon is given out by Bungie if a player has done something Bungie really enjoys and finds humerous and/or a member of the community contributes significantly to benefit others. For instance, a person got Recon for accidently killing themselves with a traffic cone on The Pit. Here is a video of that clip. DigitalPh33r, the creator of "Master Chief Sucks at Halo", "Arby n' Chief", "A Wonderful Live", and other machinima projects, has also recieved Recon for his videos regarding Halo 3.

People keep sending me messages to look at their screenshots and rate them saying it gets me Recon, does this really work?

No, you won't get Recon by viewing a screenshot...by anyone. This is just a way to bump their screenshot views up and in no way what-so-ever will get you Recon. Once again, only Bungie can hand out Recon to the community. There are no codes or anything that will unlock this armor.

So you're saying I can't just ask for Recon and get it?

No, you will not get Recon armor if you ask for it. Bungie has stated many times that you are basically guranteed not to get Recon if you ask them to give it to. Please don't email Bungie, message a Bungie employee, or post on a forum asking for Recon since Bungie highly highly looks down upon this. Just keep playing the game and maybe you will get Recon.

If I get Recon, then I also get the flaming helmet right?

The flaming helmet it only available to Bungie employees, and no one else. The flaming helmet works for any helmet since a variation of the EOD chest that only Bungie has gives the appearance of the helmet being on fire.

OMG, I got Recon, I need to tell the world!

If you do recieve Recon, it is suggested you don't tell everybody that you recieved it. There have been instances where accounts have been broken into since that person does have Recon.

How do I know if I got Recon?

Bungie will simply give it to you under your armor selections if you are qualified for you. They might notify you informing you of this achievement, but I'm not entirely sure.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask on this forum, send me a PM, or send me a message through Xbox Live, thanks.

SKULL & TERMINAL Locations and Effects (Complete Guide with Pictures) by Worseley

Gold Skulls:

Hint: Skull Collecting

While collecting skulls, keep in mind that you have to start the stage from the beginning (not from a checkpoint), but once you acquire the skull you're seeking, you can save and quit at any time without finishing the stage. This will allow you to collect skulls without having to worry about finishing the stage successfully.

Need Extra Help?

Take a look on www.youtube.com and search for the skull terminal that your stuck on.   There’s many helpful videos showing exactly where and what you need to reach the skulls/terminals.

Iron Skull - Sierra 117  (If you die, you restart from the beginning of the level.)
At the end of the level. Stand facing the pelican that arrives (no, don't get on it). Turn 90 degrees left and jump onto the large ledge. Walk all the way down until you see another (thinner) ledge on the building in front of you. Jump onto it and follow it all the way to the end where the skull is sitting in the shadows.

Black Eye Skull - Crow's Nest  (When you lose shield, the only way to get it back it to melee an enemy.)
At the start there is a massive pipe above you with the skull on top. Walk up the two small stairs and on the left there's some shelves you can jump on to. Jump up to the metal bars and then onto the pipe. Continue to the end and the skull just sitting there, you don't have to use RB to pick this one up.

Tough Luck Skull - Tsavo Highway   (Your enemies never back down, always make their saving throws, and always charge you.)
This skull is located after you go through the shield that blocks the road. (After you hear the guy on the radio request help). You'll exit onto a bridge with a large pipe on your left. Climb up one of the yellow ladders and turn right. Continue down and jump over the yellow guard thing that blocks your way. Immediately turn left and jump all the way down on the grey support below. Walk down the support and look left, you'll see a ledge coming out of the cliff. On the ledge is the Skull.

Catch Skull - The Storm   (Your Enemies throw LOTS of grenades.)
From the start continue through the level until you first get outside. Grab a vehicle and kill the enemies (there are wraiths about). Then go to the top right corner on the plains where there is some sort of small silo tower. The Skull is sitting on top. To get to the skull: Grenade jump up, or if that doesn’t get you high enough park a vehicle by it and use that for extra lift. (To grenade jump first face where you want to go, then throw a grenade just in front of your feet, then run and jump towards your desired location. The explosion beneath will give you extra lift and hopefully not kill you! XD)

Fog Skull – Floodgate   (You lose your motion sensor.)
At the very start of the level as you walk upto the stairs leading into the town (the marines will start talking) look straight up and right to the first building on your right (past the missile turret) A single flood will appear and then jump across, and out, the map. Shoot him before he jumps and the skull will fly down to the ground. However if you shoot him too early the skull will land on the roof and you will have to try again. Do not mistake him for the two flood that jump onto the roof of the building in directly ahead.

Famine Skull - The Ark   (Enemies drop 50% of the ammo they usually drop.)
This skull is located after you get the mongoose and drive over some small cliffs. Then you have a choice, straight on or turn right. (Either way you have to go down the right path later.) Continue down the path and defeat the ghosts that attack you, under a big "metal cover thing". Then, after coming out from under the big "metal cover thing", you have to turn right to go up a path leading to some enemies and a small cave/tunnel. Instead stop on the path, and look right to see a bolder jutting out of the rock. Hop on the top of the bolder and up onto the rock. Then jump over onto the top of the big "metal cover thing" (mentioned earlier). Turn left and walk up to the last support that juts out the Skull is at the end of it. This next bit can be a bit tricky. Using a grenade, grenade jump forwards and onto the support. Pick up the Skull. (To grenade jump first face where you want to go, then throw a grenade just in front of your feet, then run and jump towards your desired location. The explosion beneath will give you extra lift and hopefully not kill you! XD)

Thunderstorm Skull - The Covenant    (All enemies are given a field promotion, and ranked up to their next available level.)
This skull is located on the second tower so, after shutting down the first tower, grab the hornet and fly over to tower 2. Once you land, head up the staircases as if you were going to the entrance, but just before look towards the centre to see the dividing staircase that leads to a platform. Walk to the end, the skull is sitting on the ground.

Tilt Skull – Cortana  (When activated, enemies will become more resilient to your attacks, more armor.)
Continue through the level until you drop down an open (fleshy) hole into a small room with an open door and an energy sword beside a dead elite to the right. In the next room is a circular floor. Walk straight in (kill the flood first) to the middle of the platform and turn left 90 degrees. You should see two small ramps leading downwards. Hop on to the divider of the ramps and up onto the "mushroom like" platform coming out of the wall to your left. (Cortana will say some weird stuff about playing games) Then jump again onto the next platform just above you. Turn around 180 and look up, jump to the next platform and run across the fleshy pipe onto, a bigger, purple platform. Sitting in the centre, in a puddle of bones and fluid is the skull.

Mythic Skull – Halo   (All enemies have double their usual health.)
This skull is at the beginning of the level. Head into the cave in front of you, straight away keep to the right and there is a small path that leads off to some rocks, the skull is sitting in front of them.

Silver Skulls:

Blind– Sierra 117     (The arms of the player and the motion tracker disappear.)
Only about 1 minute into the game a ship flys over and lands with water in the background. The scull is over to the far right of screen.

Grunt Birthday Party  – Crow’s Nest   (If you manage to get a headshot on a Grunt, the Grunt will explode.)
Probably about 6-8 minutes into the level you go through a half circle metal tunnel. At the end of it you jump down a hole. Before you jump turn around and fall backwords. Push forward when you start to fall and you will land on a ledge. The scull is right up in front.

Cowbell  – The Ark   (Explosions become much bigger in the game..)
Begin by heading all the way to the part of the level where you battle the Scarab.  After defeating it, look in the middle of the desert area which you battled it in for a fairly large structure (it’s the building you see if you are at the bottom of the ramp you are supposed to go up, and turn to look in the opposite direction).   Inside of this structure are several Gravity Lifts.  Take one of these for later.

Next, head up the huge ramp, and head inside of the building (the one with the cartographer inside).  Pass through a few of the rooms in this building, and you’ll eventually come to a room with a whole lot of Explosive crates.  Right after this room is a Staircase/Hallway that leads to the level below.  The Skull is located at the top of the room, at the point where you turn on the staircase to head for the next part of the slope.  There are four platforms above you, the Skull is on the uppermost of these platforms.  Use the Gravity Lift to jump up to it, and there you have it!

IWHBYD  – The Covenant   (Unlocks Hidden Dialogue throughout Halo 3’s Campaign.)
The Skull is located in the level, “The Covenant”. After defeating the Scarabs, and going inside, get to the location with all 7 Ring Holograms. You must jump through the rings in a specific order. That order is as follows (1 is at the entrance, 7 is at the end):  4 6 5 4 5 3 4

These rings also produce the notes:

E G F# E F# D

After jumping through them in this sequence, you will be awarded the “I Would Have Been Your Daddy Skull”. It will be right next to the bridge that brings you over to the Prophet of Truth.

Terminals:

(Terminal Video Locations)

Hint Terminal Collecting:
Also once you finish reading all of the messages in this terminal and it says Fragment Ends
All transmissions cease if you press a once more you see a hidden message.  If you playing on Co op make sure everyone is at the end of the message (past the red flashing script) Once your sure everyones finished, just backout to hear the terminal activate.

The Ark – 3 locations
1) Start the mission and once you enter the first building take a left into another door and now your in a curved corridor on the inside is a Terminal

2) After activating the bridge to let your comrades accross the gap, Do a 180 and you should see it. *it does not open until you activate the bridge

3) In the third building after defeating the scarab, Kill the group of sleeping covenent, then follow the corridor downwards, Once you reach a door infront thats locked and immediatly on the left theres a open door go through and walk straight off and do a 180 to find a secret room Its in here.

 The Covenant – 3 locations

1)When in the first tower standing on the lift, Face the access panel and turn left jump over and its right there.

2) Land your hornet on the second tower walk towards the entrance but when you see the locked door do a 180 and its right there. (located near the Famine Skull)

3) When in the third tower standing on the lift, Face the access panel and turn right jump over and its right there.

The Halo – 1 location

1) After reaching the end of the first cave hug the right wall And you will see a building, jump up onto the walkway and hang a left once inside its right there.

Halo 3 Achievement Guide by DarthSnipa

We’re in For Some Chop - Go to Tsavo Highway at Checkpoint Alpha. Continue ahead until you reach the part with the Marines defending two small, connected buildings. Another lone one will be nearby. The building you’re looking for has a turret in it. In that room there should be three trip mines. Go ahead and, not using a mine, kill the Wraith. Find a Chopper and weaken the Chopper, not the driver, or else the driver will die while the vehicle lives. Once the Chopper is almost dead, drop a mine and lure the Chopper directly over it. After a subsequent boom, you’ve got your achievement. May take a few tries.

Two for One - For this achievement, camping on High Ground works great. One of the best strategies, in my opinion, is too wait for a vehicle like a Ghost, to be highjacked. When the player is boarding but the driver has been ejected, blow both of them away for a sure-fire achievement.

Steppin’ Razor - My favourite strategy for this is to go on the Pit, Crazy King. Grab the Sword and wait near the Hill. Once your enemies start pouring inside the Hill, slaughter ‘em all and **achievement**.

Mongoose Mowdown - Works great on Isolation and Valhalla. 2-4 Mongooses on those maps, so spend a match trying to mow people down. Hitting people into walls works the best because they hit something solid. Also try powersliding into them, because for some reason that seems to do a lot more damage.

Maybe Next Time Buddy - A great way to get this is to, if you are lucky enough, trap yourself in a corner and have a dumb enemy board you. Unable to leave, you can board him and get your achievement!

Lee R Wilson Memorial - Any confined map where you know the grenade spawns works extremely well, like Guardian and The Pit. Camping with your grenades near popular battle locations helps, too.

Up Close and Personal - Again, any confined, close quarters map works well. Simply hide near a battle and melee at will! Not very hard to do, I think I got this and Lee R Wilson in the first match I played!

MVP - Spawn. Strategize. Use teamwork. Shoot. Kill. Rinse. Repeat. Simple.

Headshot Honcho - Go to The Ark, Mission Start on the easiest difficulty. Grab your sniper rifle and start poppin’ heads! Since you’re on easy, the enemies aren’t exactly smart, and tend to stand still and cluster together. Easier to do in Campaign then Online.

Too Close to the Sun - Go to The Covenant, Mission Start on about Heroic. Best strategy is too continue past the first Wraith and get to the turn to continue uphill to the small Shade encampment. If you are on Heroic, or maybe Normal or higher, the Banshees actually fly towards you and give you an easy kill. On Easy or maybe Normal, though, they do not. (Or at lwast when I played that mission in those 5 times!)

Fear the Pink Mist - Go on The Covenant or The Ark. There are lots of Grunts with Needlers around, so start shooting and you’ll soon hear your beloved **ping**.

Used Car Salesman - Go to Crow’s Nest. In the hangars there are two Phantoms. Melee the turret under its belly and you get your achievement. If that doesn’t work, simply find a mission, like The Ark or The Covenant, with lots of Prowlers and kill one that has three or me people. Achievement.

Spartan Graduate - Earn 5 Exp and have a minimum skill of 0 to unlock this achievement.

Spartan Officer - Earn 70 Exp and have a minimum skill of 10 to unlock this achievement.

Triple Kill/Overkill - Earn a Triple Kill/Overkill Online sounds easy... and it is. So there really isn’t any advice for this. Using a Ghost to splatter could work, and another hundred ideas.

Killing Frenzy - A fairly difficult achievement but not more than something like beating Legendary. Simply camping with a Sniper on any big map works... or, I’m sad to say, using a Sword... over. And over. And over. I’m sorry... Sword noobs are annoying.

Meta-Game achievements - I’m not going to go through every mission and explain every little detail. But turning on the following skulls works extremely well, and will let you do it on easy.

Catch Skull, Fog Skull, Mythic Skull, Thunderstorm Skull, Tough Luck Skull, Famine Skull, and Tilt Skull. However, anytime you can get a tank, like on The Covenant and The Ark, TAKE IT! Always clear out every area completely. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE CAMPAIGN SCORING SET TO FREE FOR ALL OR IT WON’T WORK! Playing by yourself is better because you don’t have to share kills.

Marathon Man - I’m going to list the location of the Terminals for you. You should understand what I mean, because it’ll be easy.

In-Depth FAQ - http://forums.xbox.com/15771714/ShowPost.aspx

Terminals 1,2,3 - Terminals 1-1 are all found on "The Ark". The first is found the first time you walk inside (in a small hallway). The second is found right next to the control panel that lets the Scorpion Tanks across the bridge. The third and final on this mission is located under s set of stairs after the room with a bunch of sleeping grunts. You’ll miss this one if you aren’t careful, though. After killing the Scarab, and passing the room with the sleeping Grunts, there is a set of two days that let you go a different path into the next room. There should be some stacked explosive plasma cores near a wall. Under the stairs adjacent the cores, there’s a room with the Terminal.

Terminals 4,5,6 - These are really easy. On The Covenant, there’s one in each shield tower. In Tower 1 and 3, instead of going up the elevator to the control room to deactivate the barrier, keep going and jump the gap. The Terminal is literally right there. For Tower 2, head towards the second tower. Someone says, " The Elites have already disabled Tower 2. No need to land." Land anyways, and go inside like you would for Tower 1 and 3. Go as if you were going through the first door to enter the complex but turn around. The Terminal is right there.

Terminal 7 - On the final mission, Halo, the last Terminal is right at the beginning. Go to the place where there are a few structural beams criss-crossing the cliffs above. Instead, turn right and Cortana will ask, "Wait, where are you going?" Go inside and the Terminal is down the hall, on your left.

Skulls - Rather than list all of the skulls, here is a link to a website that has a list of all the skulls, and, if you need them, the armor permutations.

In Depth FAQ - http://forums.xbox.com/15771714/ShowPost.aspx

Sorry for the lack of skull info on my part, but the site says basically what I’d tell you. If you really need help and don’t understand something, send me a message over Xbox Live and I’ll try to help you!
