Avatar Supported Games

Xtramalt 03-23-2009, 7:34 AM
We've had them now for a few months and I was wondering what kiwi's think of them?

Overall I like them.  I think the implementation in UNO is one of the best and regard avatars as the best way to play public matches (save the Live Vision Camera for friends).  The emotions the avatars display ingame actually do a pretty good job of conveying how I feeling as I play.  :)  It'll be interesting to see how they fit in with UNO Rush, releasing in the next few weeks.  Last weeks Family Game Night has similar support.

I really liked A Kingdom for Keflings even though it sometimes feels like it was just a "proof of concept" idea, which I guess maybe was the point.  I'd be keen to see more games where your avatar was the focal point.  Perhaps we'll get that with Scene It: Box Office Smash launching this week.

The support in Bomberman Live is pretty basic, but I guess a little friendlier then static gamerpics.  I don't have Hardwood Hearts or Hardwood Spades, but believe they are similar to Bomberman(?).

Anyone else?  Likes or dislikes.

I only played A Kingdom for Keflings and I loved it. It was easy enough to play that the kids soon loved it too. I think it became a bit tedious towards the end but it has potential for something awesome....... Multiplayer with everyone having their own Kingdom and Military buildings/ units would be fun. Little armies waging war with each other complete with their own smite-all giant.

I tried Hardwood Hearts last night, had to re-download it for Avatar Support. You are correct with the basic support. Simple animated avatar instead of Gamer Pic and a full avatar celebration on the results screen if you win. I guess a sad avatar if you loose.

OK, thanks Tusock.

The Keflings Deathmatch expansion pack maybe terrybill?  I'd be up for that.  :)

Looks like the new Scene It? (Box Office Smash) has some sweet avatar support

Discovered today that Brian Challenge is another game that has been updated with Avatar support.  Afraid it isn't enough to keep me interested in the game - I don't need my console to tell me how smart I am.

UNO Rush's avatars (not surprisingly) seem similar to the originals.

It sure does.  Very nicely done, it even pulls the avatar data attached to other profiles on your console and uses them in some cutscenes in between rounds.  Overall the game is a big step up from the original - well done Krome.  I'm looking forward to taking it for a spin on Live.

Also - Age of Booty has had a title update tonight(?) that has added avatar support.  Seems this avatar thing is really starting to take off.

I noticed yesterday that UNO Rush's credits include the Avatars of the production team.  Kind of a nice little touch.

Let's see if we can get two more people and make it a full couch.  Sometime over easter weekend maybe?

Discovered yesterday that when Scene It? BOS! does this it actually adds itself to the played games list of those profiles.  Which may not be such a good thing.  Probably a limitation of the avatar app itself.

Texas Cheat 'Em's avatar support is average.  Playing solo you only compete against static (non-avatar) opponents, which is kinda boring.  There are some other elements - sad avatar when you lose, but that seems to be about it.

Anyone here get this game and want to take it to Live?

Add Worms 2: Armageddon to the list.

Your avatar appears inbetween turns expressing emotions depending on how you are doing.  I like it.

Looks like we are getting our "Keflings Deathmatch" (in a fashion) with the release this week of a title update and DLC for ninjabee's Band of Bugs

Really looking forward to this.

I give the Band of Bugs title update two thumbs up.  Your avatar takes the place of Maal in the single player campaign which is pretty cool, but even better then that is the multiplayer support - Kefling Deathmatch FTW!  If anyone is keen to put it to the test give me a yell.

I've only just started the Tales of Kaloki expansion, your avatar is there for the "cut scenes" in that taking an off screen command role - it takes place in deep-space after all.

Last weeks Madballs - Babo: Invasion is the latest game to support Avatars.

One of the multiplayer modes (Avatar attack) converts your avatar into a "Madball" - ok, it cuts your head off your body and attaches a weapon to the side of it.  A different take on the in-game avatar thing, but people seem to like it.  Most of the multiplayer games currently avaliable are for Avatar Attack mode.

Spotted the video on the Marketplace last night and Major Nelson now has coverage.  Seems Guitar Hero 5 will have avatar support.

Might be the first musical instrument game I pick up.

More info about JoyRide was revealed last week at TGS.

Today Xbox LIVE revealed a new stop on the road of “Joy Ride”, transporting your Avatars to an action-packed mountain range with “Perilous Peaks.” This mountainous location will be available for the community to unlock after launch, and part of the evolving world of “Joy Ride” – a revolutionary game experience on Xbox LIVE that will grow and change the more you play. Also unveiled were three new game modes, Trick Showdown, Delivery Dash and Coin Frenzy that will have you playing with friends to earn coins and experience points.

  • Trick Showdown: Take a pit stop at the “Joy Ride” Stunt Park and collect multipliers to win big bonuses for your car stunts and Avatar tricks. Created for single player and group collaboration, work with your Avatar racing buddies to earn points, complete the stage and unlock the bonus round, Coin Frenzy.

  • Coin Frenzy: Looking for the fuzzy dice to hang from your review mirror? Work with your friends to collect as many coins as you can before the timer runs out in the ultimate bonus round, Coin Frenzy. Coins can be spent in the online store to deck out your car.

  • Delivery Dash: More cheese please! With Delivery Dash on “Joy Ride” you’re racing against the clock to feed hungry players fresh pizza. Race with friends back and forth from the store to delivery locations and work as a team to trigger a bonus round, earn coins, and experience points.

Tower Bloxx Deluxe, (released last week) is the latest arcade title with avatar support.  Unfortunately it only has local multiplayer and this is where avatars mostly show up.  It is pretty simple, but very addictive.  This might be partly because I'm pretty crap at lining the blocks up neatly and keep trying to do better.  Anyone else get this?
