I had Burnout: Revenge on both my original Xbox and the "updated" version on 360 and they were a blast. But seriously, what happened between B:R and B:P?

The fast paced flow of the game is constantly broken by loading screens, stupid crash animation that you can't even skip, and just flat out boring world design. Who's bright idea was it to make half a decent city and then just go to one long winding country road with absolutely no fun factor? Every time I get stuck on the west side of the map I just want to put the controller down and walk away.

It takes 3 minutes just to start the game up, and by the time I'm starting the car's engine I'm already ready to switch games, hence why this game has sat on my shelf almost since the first day I bought it.

And the crashes, they are so bland and boring, nothing like the ones in Revenge or Takedown. Your car never really seems to damage more than a few crunches here and there, and I find myself wanting to skip 90% of the wrecks, but of course I have to watch as my car just barely folds up...in slow motion, no doubt to kill what little, if any, adrenaline I was feeling from the game.

And seriously, recycling challenges? Is that the best they could come up with, "oh, you get a new license class, now go redo all the challenges again, so when you get another new class you can play the challenges, again..." What fun!! not.

I get it, ok, I got 5 new cars in my junkyard. I shouldn't have to sit through 30 seconds of crap before I can press A to continue only to be greeted by yet another screen that I can't skip, repeatedly.

I try to look past the flaws, but I simply can't. The Burnout name has "critical damage" and needs to find a repair shop before the brand combusts into flames. Generic racers nail the formula better than this, I'm extremely let down by this game.

Wait, are you basicly saying that there is hardly any Damage in this game???? It has one of the if not the best Damage model in any game!!!!

The only loading screens I get are when I start a challenge, but their often helpful because they tell you what you supposed to be doing. Correct me if I'm wrong isn't BP the 1st freeroam Burnout game?! ... so surely that means that in previous games you would have to select a challenge from a menu... and what it just started instantly with no loading? Yeah right!

Besides it would be even more annoying if you pulled up at a set of lights and then without warning a race started.

Yes the crash sequences do get boring and I wish there was a way to skip them, but there's not. Whats more annoying though is how your car spawns in the most stupid locations after a crash.

I agree with the OP, Burnout Paradise is a completely different animal and doesn't share the adrenaline rush speed demon racing action of the previous Burnout games. It definitely requires a different mind set to enjoy it for what it is.

I hope CG go back to their arcade racing roots with their next racing title. NFS:Burnout could be a real treat! :)

If you don't see damage on your car you aren't going fast enough...

I haven't spent time playing other burnout games  but this has some of the best OH SHI-  moments of any game I've ever played.  Coming down the home stretch and clipping a corner going who knows how fast (no speedometer) with another car right on your tail to flip and crash across the finish for the win?  Priceless.

The only flaw in this game is having to drive back to the starting point of a race/stunt run/road rage/marked man...once you've lost. I just wish there was a restart button.

There was a lot of this in the first six months or so after release.

Luckily Paradise kind of filtered out a lot of the attitude from the Burnout games. A trip over to the Revenge forums will give you a bunch of Paradise hate and a lot of "Why I'm good" and "Why you suck" threads.

Almost all of them  sincei have played them from underground 1 and 2 they have been free roam and starting events since then if i recall right. THye have all been good if CG made NFS like they did burnout paradise but with some minor tweaks to crashes and stuff i would totally buy it.

I loved both B:R and B:P. in B:P it was really fun playing with friends and just doing whatever but I liked the B:R style of racing because it was more of an intense game which was alot harder because of how fast you go all the time, and the takedowns in it were much more rewarding. I love both games but if they make another burnout I hope they go back to B:R. just my opinion

good point i'd like to see them return to a revenge style to w/even bigger jumps and boost jumping speed,also the ability to race in the rain or snow man that would be nice

Based on Burnout, it'd be natural to assume Criterion would be working on the next arcade/casual game in the series, like how Treyarch and Infinity Ward alternate Call of Duty titles.

Have I missed something here? How is BP not an 'arcade' racing game. There's no way its even close to being a realistic racer, let alone a sim.

What they're talking about is that while Burnout is an arcade racer, the recent NFS titles have at most been a hybrid of arcade and sim styles, but not all-out arcade. Their point is that Criterion doing a Burnout-esque NFS title would alienate recent fans of the NFS franchise.

That all depends. The better NFS games of the last 8 years were games that, whether good or not, essentially were ripping off other franchises, like how Underground borrowed from Midnight Club. They could have Criterion do a new Burnout and just brand it as NFS (again, NFS is already being branched out into sim and arcade games, with likely 2+ NFS titles per year), in which case Burnout fans wouldn't have any complaints. At this point, we don't know enough to go one way or the other.

I know what you mean i wish i hadn't purchased the game at all.
I'd throw it out my car window while driving if i knew it would be damaged beyond alls hell.
I just bought it today 7.25.09 it was on sale for $20.
I've been playing it for around three hours and hate it and i hate the annoying announcer that i can't get the stupid Richard Crainium to shut up.
I'm going to gamestop and get a better game this one sucks monkey balls.
Need for speed underground is better and allot more fun and no annoying announcer.

Burnout Paradise is good but Burnout 3: Takedown remains my favourite by a mile.
