No VIDEO (via component) after latest HDMI audio update!
I was just fine, operating on Component video since I have a first-gen Xbox (I know I'm the only person I know who hasn't got a RRoD).

Well immediately I applied this latest update as requested, I lost all video via component (which is to say I have NO video). I did nothing else. Ie, everything was fine, applied the update... Boom. No video.

I can hear audio via the optical connection, but I can no longer see anything on the screen. I've taken everything out of the chain, so it's definitely the Xbox 360 which is not outputting video. I don't even know how I can fix this if/when they do apply an update.

I reset the video using the Y-trigger combo, which I could hear that it did successfully, but I still have no video. I can't believe I'm the only person with this issue...

This is definitely not a bad cable and most certainly related to the new software patch.

Does composite work for you?
I lost my video since the November update on only HDMI to DVI connection. All other type of connections work fine. I wish there was a way to completely reset the whole xbox.

Hi,

I tried doing this, but after 40 minutes of speaking to someone who refused to believe that myself and other people with a Viewsonic VX2835wm didn't all have HDMI cables which mysteriously broke during the update I gave up. She refused to log it as an issue or believe I had a problem, which is somewhat frustrating.

Re: Never had problems until AFTER the Feb. HDMI update
After this debacle, I've lost all faith and trust in the 360 engineering team. I'll never update my console again unless I'm 100% absolutely assured by sources other than Microsoft that the update works properly.

I suggest likewise to everyone in this thread. If your console works fine the way it is, simply do not use Live when they try to cram an update down our throats. It's just better off to have a properly functioning console.

so wait this still isn't fixed? I had to move to using component for 1080p output on my monitor with audio but it leaves some terrible ghosting where I didnt have a problem with this using HDMI. *sigh oh well.

Yea I love that - experienced it myself. I did it twice and there will be no third time.

Here's another question: has anyone noticed any language anomalies after the NXE upgrade? I have played a game in french yesterday. My console language is english and I live in a german speaking country. So what happens is that on the main menu the texts are german even if the console is set on english - in some submenus the language is english (like in the console settings menu). After the french game yesterday some submenues in the Marketplace apperared in french...console still on english and texts in the main menu of NXE still in german.... I never noticed such a weird mix with the old GUI. Seems the NXE has brought more innovations than I initially thought (no HDMI no sound no 1080p....). Who knows, maybe the issues are related.

My advice remains the same: let us DOWNGRADE and forget NXE!

No. Sorry.

After calming down a bit, I called Customer Service to attempt to log a complaint since my perfectly functional console was screwed over by the "update." I was told that since it was a technical issue, I'd be transferred ... right back to India, where I was told that "1920x1080@60Hz is 1080p" and that "perhaps your family settings are not allowing you to play the game."

When I told them I am an A/V installer and working with this stuff is my job, the girl had the gall to tell me that Xbox 360 technical support is her job and I need to either send my system in for repair or purchase a new HDMI cable. They will never understand, and I am never calling back. I tried accessing the US number posted above with my case number, but got some sort of busy signal every time.

This is idiocy, Microsoft. I can only hope you're still reading.

This is the last time I'm posting here. Like I've said my issues (Pro into Benq 2400W) have been resolved, which is good. Which is not good is how people still are having problems. No, not good at all. Anyway, all I have to say really is hang in there, guys. I think it's been established by now that M$ doesn't care the least bit about its customers, so I wouldn't get my hopes up about a fix any time soon. I'm simply appalled by some of the customer service experiences reported here. They can't do that to people. It might be worth it to once again push this case in the games media and maybe even take the legal route to get these a$$holes to see what they're doing. And in the meantime, read a good book and/or take up gardening. Just a tip.

Re: Vs: Re: Never had problems until AFTER the Feb. HDMI update

I never had any trouble with my 360 in any way until the feb update. After the update ,which none of us have choice decline, my system's HDMI was rendered  useless and only audio works with any other form of connection.
I also, like so many others, tried to receive help from India and was told to pay $119.00 and how much ever time to send in my system to fix a problem that I did not create.
So, now my 360 is a fancy looking black brick and my pre-paid year subscription to xbox-live is simply going to waist. Further more, I will not be able to play GTA4 L&TD when it is released next week (which I was really looking forward to playing. Sorry, Rockstar no money for you, be sure to thank M$ for me.)or any of the other 30+ games I paid for.
Our consumer dollars were spent to support the Xbox 360 with hardware and software purchases and M$ has a direct responsibility to provide us with properly tested and reliable updates.
When a problem does occur, which it most certainly has, they should jump through hoops trying to resolve it! They should also provide helpful and useful customer support!
So-far to date, I haven't seen anything about M$ even acknowledging there is a problem, and just forget seeing anything about how to solve this growing dilemma. (which is the only thing any of us Really want to see.)
I agree 100% with lolfat, This Injustice must be challenged by we the GAMERS!
Do not buy a new 360, do not pay money to have M$ fix your system, do not reward their incompetence! Insted, contact every online/offline media source you can and generate a big hype about the problem until we have a free solution.
let M$ feel the pressure of their lack of respect for their customers and maybe they will be more careful before they put us through another situation like this again!

Re: No Audio at All post-NXE for HDMI connection to BenQ G2400W Monitor (via headphone jack)

since the update on february 2nd i haven't had any problems and my sound has been restored(i have a 26 inch vizio tv and an arcade xbox i bought last january).  i have been reading about people getting error messages when they turn on their xbox.  i was playing today, cod waw, and the screen started messing up, kinda like a grid.  i restarted it and an error message popped, error 74, telling me to contact microsoft support.  i restarted again and no problems until i started playing cod and then the screen messed up again.  i haven't tried any other games so i don't kno if it's exclusive to cod but probably not.  is anyone else experiencing this problem and what have they done to resolve it?

Just in case there actually are MS people reading this thread, here's my issue:

No problems before the "update" at all.  However, just moved into a new house and dloaded the update yesterday. Audio via HDMI goes in and out.  Here's the setup:

XBox 360 Elite, via HDMI to a Sony STR-DG820 receiver to a Samsung HL-S5687W 56" TV. Audio goes in and out regardless of the HDMI port on the TV or the receiver, even if directly connected to the TV.  Never had any problems before the update.  Used the same HDMI cable and ports with the PS3; no issues.  Same with my DirecTV HD-DVR.  Works fine.  Definitely a problem with the 360 and not a cable, TV, or receiver.

I will make an attempt to explain the issue to MS tech support today.  I will report back later with the results.

I am the Zen Master. Just ask Michtlantechutli.

Having problems here too, brand new (purchased in January) jasper arcade connected to a vizio VW46LF via HDMI.  I had no problems with the HDMI audio prior to the latest update.

After the latested update the audio will do several different things.

It will either work fine at the dashboard but not work when you boot to a game (most recently Zuma and Left 4 Dead), fixed by rebooting the 360 or sometimes going back to the dashboard and rebooting the game.
Or
It will not work at the dashboard and not work when you boot to a game. Fixed by rebooting the 360.
Or
It will drop off after an hour or so of gameplay.  (GOW2 and Dead Space) Fixed by calling it a night.

The things that have fixed the audio for me are, rebooting the 360, going back to the dashboard and restarting the game, rebooting the TV.

Called 1-800-4MYXBOX today.  Didn't run into the problem of speaking to someone in India.  Needless to say, we didn't fix the issue.  However, I will say that the rep that I talked to was courteous and seemed to earnestly want to help me fix my problem.  He walked me through clearing the HD of updates, but since the dashboard update is firmware, it can't be cleared.  Still no help.  Then, he asked me if the 360 was plugged into a power strip or into the wall.  I responded that I have the Xbox plugged into an uninterruptable power supply with automatic voltage regulation... but he still wanted me to plug it into a wall outlet.  I humored him, but of course it didn't help the issue.  He said that the only thing left to do was to send it back in for a repair.  I declined for the moment, even though I have the 3-year warranty on my Elite.  I don't think that the problem has anything to do with my console, but with the update.  The only way that a repair may work is if they replace it with the 65nm motherboard.  But I really don't feel like doing that at the moment, especially since we know that it's the update that caused the problem.  I hope MS gets on this problem.  I know they're trying, but it's rather annoying that I didn't have this issue before the update, but now that they "fixed" the problem for some people's machines, they caused it on mine.  Guess we just have to wait.

Re: No Audio at All post-NXE for HDMI connection to BenQ G2400W Monitor (via headphone jack)
Just wanted to add my voice to the din. My 360 Pro (Xmas present) is hooked up via component directly to my Toshiba 40RV525U HDTV. I wanted to check out the upscaling capabilities when viewing DVD's, but since component doesn't allow upscaling (!?!) I'm forced to use HDMI to properly view what I bought. But HDMI isn't outputting audio - the XBox thinks it's plugged into a computer and displays the resolution options (640 x 480 thru 1920 x 1080). I tried unplugging the HD, re-setting with the rt trigger, etc. but no dice. The only way I got it to work once was when I had the HDMI unplugged when I turned on the Xbox and then plugged it in after. It's definitely something in the POST (startup tasks) on the XBox. After dealing with Xbox live "support" when contesting a charge and them forcing me to give them my credit card to make an account for my son and they will not acknowledge that they have my info to remove it, I have zero faith that calling would make ANY difference.

Only bought my Toshiba 32in a couple of weeks ago. Its the family television so i dont use it much for the xbox, but i bought a HDMI lead anyway for when i do. When the telly first arrived i tested it with the Xbox and eveything worked fine. I went to play on it a couple of nights ago and couldn't get no sound. I used the second HDMI port on my telly but still there was no sound. Also while looking around  i noticed the display setttings don't give me the option of any HD modes anymore, just resoultions like i have when i plug the Xbox into my 19in monitor. I use a third party HDMI lead, not Microsofts one. Has anyone got this problem with the Microsoft lead or is just those people who bought a third party HDMI lead?

This is just great. Now that more and more games come out I'm forced to leave my HDMI cable in the drawer and play through component. Really makes me want to throw everything away.

And still no one at MS with an official statement. No update on what i being done and tested or when to expect any changes. Just live with what you have. This is so frustrating.

Well.I Installed the dashboard update in December and have gone through 3 consoles since then all due to the update-Sure MS "repairs" them for free but you get back crap.I just got off the phone with yet another inbred person telling me to send it back to their repair center and they were sry so they said they will send me a 3rd copy of Project Gotham Racing 3 lol as compensation.Wal mart wont take it back-MS wont refund this garbage so Im stuck with playin for 2 days then mailing it out for 3 weeks again. They have zero answer to their update problem.MS can *** off!ty :)

i have a solution that might help, but you have to be patience and possibly do it more than once. it is only a temp fix, but it does work,

(Beginning)
Turn your system(XBOX) on and let it load up to the main NXE screen,
keep your system on and take off your HDD then the Xbox should start to  reboot,
put HDD back in,
you should have sound, if not repeat from beginning but make sure HDD is in before your system loads up.

this should result in sound.
On reboot if you loose sound again, start at the beginning.

this works on my machine, and i get sound through the HDMI cord. i loose sound every once and a while but doing these steps gives the sound back. i hope it works for you.

Thanks for your input, but unfortunately this solution was provided by some dude when the Audio problems 1st appeared in November 2008. Microsoft then used this "Harddrive Trick" as their official temporary fix.
It works for some and doesn't work for others.

This is *** ridiculous. I bought the Xbox back in November, right after the totally useless NXE crap came out, forcing me to play with crappy component cable. And when I thought that was finally solved with this "update" few days later both the video and sound is dead, both for HDMI and component. At least before the "update" I could still play with the component cable, but now even that doesn't work. *** YOU MICROSOFT. You are the most incompetant company I've ever seen in my life. I payed 500AU$ for this piece of ***, and for the past 4 months I was able play it as it's supposed to be only for 2 days. Fix this RIGHT NOW.

Weird thing is I only got the problem tonight. Been on NXE since release, had no problems.

Tonight I turned xbox for first time in a while, and I think the 3rd Feb patch that was supposed to fix sound for the people who had lost it, has BROKEN my sound, lol. Typical.

Sound works with composit, but not HDMI or VGA. HDMI now shows pc-style resolutions (1280x720) instead of 720p etc.

I've tried all the fixes and work-arounds, nothing works for me, not even temporarily. Flipping brilliant...

Lost sound over HDMI since 5th Feb... Probably due to the 3rd Feb "Fix" patch?
