HDTV problem with Euro Top spin 2
So, I recieved my copy of Top Spin 2 here in the UK and immediately ran into a problem; the game only seems to work in PAL 60 and not in any of the HDTV modes. The back of the box has the usual HDTV 420p/720p/1080i info on the back but, to quote page 3 of the manual,

"This game can only be played if your Xbox 360 is set to PAL-60."

Now, apart from the dact that this means I have to reach round the back of the console to toggle the output cable switch to TV and go to the display settings in the console and change the output to PAL-60, this makes a mockery of me having a HDTV.

So, what's the deal? I'm understandably angry about all this and hope there's some type of solution.

Hmm... Do you have the UK version with the "This game can only be played if your Xbox 360 is set to PAL-60." on page 3?

RE: HDTV problem with Euro Top spin 2

I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM!

I'm soooooo pi$$ed!

This is really something unbelieveble!

I have a SONY BRAVA 32" LCD HD-TV (bought just 3 months ago).

It supports 480p / 720p / 1080i

I just went to the shop to get TOP SPIN 2 (360) I put it in and my console tells me: 'You can only play this game on 60hz. Please change the Hz in your system in the dashboard.'

Nothing to worry...you might say but what about this:

There is no way to change the Hz setting because there simpely isn't an option for in the dasboard! Even tried to setup my XBOX again completely...nothing! Then I also looked into the menu of my TV and nothing there too!

You are going to tell me I can't play this game with, what I believe is, the best HD-TV on the planet?

Please say I'm wrong coz this really would be a big dicsapointment to the Microsoft Corp.

To alleviate your pain somewhat, you can flip the toggle on the cable linking your console to your TV from HDTV to TV, when you next turn the 360 on, it will start up in normal PAL-50 and the option to change it to PAL-60 will be displayed.

Yeah, I had the same problem when I wanted to test the game in a store today. Thx guys, now I know what to do next time.

EDIT:

Is there any reason, I shouldnt switch to 60 hz permanently (I did that for my xbox 1) or are there PAL games which run better in 50 hz?

If you have problems playing on HD (game only runs on 60 hz in sted of 50) just do this:

1) Turn of your xbox

2) Set the switch on your xbox cable to TV (in stead of HDTV).

3) In options in your system console set the Hz to 60

4) turn of the xbox

5) Set the switch on your xbox cable back to HDTV (in stead of TV).

6) Have fun playing!

With all respect, this is not a solution as this game is advertised as being playable in HDTV and following your instructions above (which, by the way, I've ALREADY listed) will reduce the game to non HDTV 480i.

I payed a premium for a HDTV capable TV, I bought the premium Xbox 360 pack with the HD cable and I bought what was advertised as a HDTV game only for it to tell me that it can only be played in sub-HDTV resolutions. This is unacceptable.

Are you connecting to your TV with a VGA cable? As I heard this can cause probs with the 60Hz matter. If not, I believe the other poster meant to turn back to high-def after switching to 60Hz. Hope I helped...

I did like ILBCNU said for a while ago when the demo of The Outfit didn't work in HD-settings. It worked fine after I did just like he said, and I haven't change the setting yet and I am still playing in 1080i.

Yeah m8  uk version , using it on my Samsung 26inch hdtv lcd

Runs fine just as all my games.    try powering your 360 in normal tv mode then change it to 60htz, and then change it back to hd 720p

Re: RE: HDTV problem with Euro Top spin 2
How is it running in 480i?  Surely it is just fooling the system.
Switching to SDTV lets you change to 60
Then switching back to HDTV puts it back in 720p
Am I just bieng stupid, I dont get the problem with this.

I was doin one when the message appeared when i got the game on thursday (THANKYOU GAMEPLAY!!!) but all i did was go to console settings on the 360 and change it and it worked.

I can't see why HDTV's would have a problem but hey, i know fudge all about things like this. You tried calling MS, they might know, maybe...

What's the problem, this is the solution. I had the same problem with "Feeding Frenzy". It appears the conflict is the Pal version your Xbox would use if you didn't have the cable flipped to HDTV.

Re: RE: HDTV problem with Euro Top spin 2
this is a stupid bug that should have been fixed a long time ago by microsoft

i run with a vga cable which ofc is 60hrz

to fix this on hd tv's
plug your standard cable in
and change it from pal 50 to pal 60
turn off xbox
plug in your component cable or vga cable
it will work fine now

this game is checking the standard def setting to see if its set to 60 hrz
and not actually checking what is being used at the moment

This definetely works. Even now when you normally run your xbox through HDMI. Just get the "old" cable and do what he said. replug your HDMI and everything works fine. Of course, nowadays when you bought an Elite you don`t have the old cable. Then you`re screwed.
