In an effort to keep this forum efficient, useful, and free from misinformation and speculation, the following posting procedures will take effect immediately.
The key change here is that most replies to the original post will not be approved ... unless you are Xbox staff, an Xbox.com forum moderator, or an Xbox MVP.
Many thanks to the Xbox.com forum moderators and Xbox MVPs for their assistance in crafting this policy and their continued support of your Xbox LIVE player community!
Types of Posts That Are Allowed
- Questions about a specific enforcement action that has already taken place (e.g., "I got banned and I don't know why" or "My gamerscore is suddenly 0 but I didn't cheat!")
- Questions about how to handle harrassment/abuse that has actually occurred (e.g., "Somebody sent me a racist/sexist/homophobic message, what do I do?")
- Questions about how the complaint/feedback system works (e.g., "I heard if you get all your friends to file complaints against someone they will be suspended" or "Can I find out who submitted player reviews against me?")
- Follow-up posts from members of the Xbox staff, Xbox.com forum moderators, or Xbox MVPs. If you do not fit into any of these categories, it is highly unlikely that your reply post will be approved.
Types of Posts That Are Not Allowed
- Reports about other gamertags that you believe have violated the Code of Conduct (e.g., "GamertagX is a cheater" or "GamertagX has an offensive profile"). For these issues, you must file a complaint.
- Posts that are rude, aggressive, attacking, or abusive against any other group or individual (e.g., "The enforcement agents are a bunch of {...}" or "Suspending people because of that word is totally {...}"
- Arguing the length/reason/rationale of a suspension that has been given. We aren't going to explain some suspensions, because either the content is too offensive or the matter is sensitive or some other reason that prevents us from posting it here.
- Requests for support with your console, unauthorized access claim (phishing/hijacking), or errors related to your payment instrument. For all of these topics, you must call Xbox Support in your region (1-800-4-MY-XBOX in North America).
How To Post and What To Expect
- Post in accordance to the rules above. Include the gamertag you are asking about. If you have recently changed your gamertag, please include your former tag as well (this saves us time when investigating your question).
- Wait for the post to be moderated into the forum.
- Wait for a follow-up reply from a member of the Xbox staff, Xbox.com forum moderators, and/or Xbox MVPs. We will do our best to reply to your post in 48 hours.
WARNING: If you ask about why we suspended you based on your profile content, the contents of your profile *may* be displayed here. In other words, if you don't want the world to know you engage in hateful/bigoted/profane speech in your profile, don't ask for us to explain why we suspended you due to profile content.
- Expect that the thread will be locked.
Xbox LIVE Messages and Xbox.com Forum PMs
[UPDATED 7/29/2009]
In order to provide a consistent and predictable experience for all users inquiring about their suspensions, the following policy related to Xbox LIVE messages and Xbox.com forum message goes into effect immediately:
- Do not privately ask Xbox staff why you were suspended. We will not reply. You must post in the Account Suspensions forum if you want to find out why we suspended you.
- Do not privately report other players to Xbox staff. File a complaint against these players instead. Additionally, you may choose to mute and/or block communications with other players.
However, there are a few exceptions to this rule:
- You need to report highly offensive messages received over Xbox LIVE (e.g., nudity, depictions of harm to others, credible threats of violence).
- You need to report a gamerscore cheater. Only do this when you have a high volume of evidence supporting your claim -- if you spam us with gamerscore cheating reports that turn out to be false, you will quickly find yourself ignored (or worse).
- You need to provide us with evidence of system tampering, links to phishing websites, or picture/video evidence of offensive content or behavior.
If your report is related to the above items, send an Xbox LIVE message to one of the following people: Bootblack, XBL BigBrother, or The Pro. Be sure to include the gamertag you are reporting. If your report is not related to the above items, do not sent a private message or Xbox LIVE message. You will not receive a response if you do. In addition, you may not receive a response at all, even if your message fits the above -- oftentimes, we only have the time to read your post and pass the details on to the appropriate investigator.
That's about it. If you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks for playing on Xbox LIVE!
