Negative Rep.

Okay, now I'm just wondering why people would negative rep someone on this particular game. I mean I can understand the quitting early which I'm guilty of due to laggyness while facing some users etc. But to go and give someone "Aggressive, and Unsporting" negative rep is just ridiculous. lol I never use my mic so I don't understand the "trash talk" one, and how do you not play by the rules in UMK3? Do people just negative rep because they lost? or because they're bored. It makes me laugh, I only play UMK3 because I figure if I don't have an HDTV, I don't need to be playing HD games. Anyone else experience stuff like this or is it just a lost cause for concern?

A few reasons, I'd assume. Most common would be sore losers.

A) They negative rep you, to try and make themselves feel better for losing.
B) They negative rep you, to avoid playing with someone better than then, though they can't neg rep you for being too skilled, because they can't admit you're better than them.
C) A & B
D) They're new to the game, or just really shitty and think some combos are "unfair"? (Not sure on this one).

Trust me, it used to be a lot worse. I played this since it was released on the acrade. At the beginning, I was down to a quarter star rep. I'm still at 89% avoided from it, though it was at about 95%.

For some reason, UMK3 generally attracts  gamers that are, immature, foul mouthed idiots. I could go on to give examples, but I doubt it's needed.

But don't you get paired with people as the same "skill" as you? For example mines at "18" or does that not matter? I rarely check my rep but I happened to check it the other day and I was like wow haha.

Not that I've noticed. I've played over 10,000 games on this account, and about another 10,000 on another account. I still get matched with people who are new, or just bad, and that's in ranked, and/or player matches. From everything that I've seen while playing this game since it was came to the arcade, I've never noticed true skill making a difference. Though the UMK3 leaderboards are broken, and there's been times I've won and dropped places in rank, and true skill. Honestly, I don't know, but when I get matched with people who haven't even won 100 ranked games yet, I just assume it's broken.

I get a lot of negative rep as well, and I don't even use a mic (mine doesn't work).  It just comes with the territory I guess.  People are just sore losers, for example, I couldn't find anyone in ranked matches at a certain point last night so I joined a player match (unusual for me), got matched with two guys who were obviously friends.  I lost against the first guy, then fought his buddy and beat him and all of a sudden he starts screaming like a girl "HE'S GLITCHING OMG BOOT HIM BOOT HIM HE'S GLITCHING BOOT HIIIIIIM!!!".  Glitching how?  Because I beat him?  LOL.  Alright I didn't have a mic so couldn't say anything back but really, give me a break.  He was yelling at the top of his lungs too, because he lost one fight to a stranger, in a videogame no less, what a pansy.  People on XBL are losers, and this is a 1v1 game, so expect a lot of negative rep.  All that said however, his buddy in that game was actually cool and just laughed at his idiot friend and told him to chill out and suck it up, which surprised me but leaves me with some faith still left in humanity lol.

Yeah, I've met some cool people as well, it's just a pity that they're the minority. I might own someone, do a Babality and have them say "Wow, that was awesome, good fight man." When this happens, I'm just like "Wow, what? Not only did I get to do a Babality, but you didn't resort to screaming in your mic, or sending abusive messages! Amazing!"

Yeah, it's always nice to run into people like that.  I have to text message so I don't communicate as much but if someone's polite to me then I will respond in kind.  Smile [:)]

I've met a few people who are really friendly but like you said the majority seem to be whiners / trash talkers.  I really just play to have a good time, sure sometimes I'll get a little annoyed if I'm on a losing streak but I keep it to myself and don't go ape-crazy on the guy who beat me for it.  Now if someone sends me some retarded hate message then depending on my mood I might just have to tear into them a bit, most of the people who do send hate messages really can't stand up in an argument it seems and end up falling back on repeated messages of "FU FU FU" after you've proven you have a larger vocabulary than they do (not profanities lol).

Hey, you forgot the mention "ur mom" comments.

I'm not sure there's a point in posting this.

Anyway, I send hate messages. I didn't use to, but after years of having people quit, I decided to start calling them out on it. Nothing overly abusive, just a "Quitting coward." or something similar to that. Generally they reply with "lol no life." At which point, I remind them, that they're the ones who care so much about losing in a video game, that they quit.

I've had many people send me hate messages just because I got tired of playing in a versus challenger. I mean playing the same guy for about 8 rounds tends to get boring. He wouldn't let anyone else join and after I quit he was all "Oh so you're a n00b and don't wanna play anymore I see how it is you suck" and I thought to myself wth? replied back "So I'm a n00b for not wanting to play anymore gg." and the hate continued. It's kinda ridiculous how far some people go. I just find it silly now.

Yeah, that's just stupid.

I guess I should clarify what I mean. When I say quit, I mean drop at the fatality screen, or at any point before the match is over. Any other time is okay. I do feel slightly annoyed in versus challenger when people quit out after only one match, but not enough to send them a message. The only exception to this is if someone is spouting abuse, or playing really lame. Examples I'd consider lame: trying to Shoulder Charge me with Nightwolf the whole match, or slide the whole match with Sub-Zero. Both of those tactics are easy to beat. The messages I send to these people aren't really that bad, it's generally just a "You might want to learn some more moves, doing the same thing the whole game is predictable and easy to counter."

The reason I send quitters messages isn't so much out of hate, I mean, I've done every fatality in the game, and done/seen most of them, plenty of times, and that's where most people drop out, the fatality screen. I send them a message about quitting, because it makes them have to face up to what they did. A few people have actually apologized for quitting (I can only remember 4, but there's probably been more than that).

WTF,  you won, right? Just say "GG" and move on with your life.

Honestly, the only thing worse than a sore loser... is a sore winner.

lol I knew what you meant, it just reminded me of how some people would just go crazy and send all kinds of crazy messages just to get your attention, and if you don't reply "you're the loser".

Agreed. I mean if it was a close match say you both are on "danger" and you mess up that's kinda okay to get upset or frustrated AT YOURSELF, and just have a good laugh about it. lol

You just can't win with some people.  If you win they send you hate messages, if you lose they send you hate messages.  Either way, they're losers.

Hehe, yeah I love when that happens.  They usually kill me after the mercy but I've had quite a few times where someone will mercy and I'll kill them and do a fatality on them instead, even had one guy with over half of his life left and I managed to combo him into a fatality.  I'll be that was a downer.  Big Smile [:D]

I got my royal a-hole handed to me on a platter loads last night but I wouldn't go off putting bad rep on anybody for that. It's just kids who can't take a beating. Other than that: I wouldn't even worry about negative rep. The system is completely flawed.

Yeah, the system is flawed. Think about it, it says "X% of players preferred you, or DID NOT SUBMIT a review." Now, that's just not true, since that stat only records people who prefer you.

Also, who really cares about rep? I've mentioned this before, but when I was playing UMK3 when it first came out, people were bigger sore losers than they are now. I had only a quarter of a star in rep.

I noticed I talked with you on the DMC4 forums, hi.
