I'm also really hoping that A Man in Flames or Ekudeht don't ruin the fun of the leaderboards. They both made it impossible to become a top 5 on the Doom leaderboards.
Neither of us plan on being all that serious with Doom 2 (I'm going to be working and going to school full time when the game comes out and Flames just doesn't want to spend too much time on one friggin game anymore...I can't really blame him).
Though we'll both probably play for leaderboard stats we're not going to want to dedicate all our free time to this game.
On a side note I've already beaten Doom 2 on Nightmare a couple of times (when i got sick of waiting for doom 2 to be released on xbox live arcade I bought the collectors edition for the PC. Despite having never really played the 2nd installment of Doom before, within 5 days, I had already beaten the game once on UV and twice on Nightmare with max stats for every level). I actually find Doom 2 to be easier on Nightmare that episode 4 of doom 1 (namely the first 2 levels); since the entire game is one 32 level episode you get to keep all your guns throughout and though there are more difficult enemies in the game they really load you up with plasma cells, rockets and megaspheres.
I will probably have every level beaten on Nightmare with max stats within a 1-3 days of the games release (depending on how much time I have to play at the time) however I won't be doing much in terms of competing for time for a while and if I do decide to go for that then progress will likely be slow. I'll probably be able to crap out a top 10 spot on the leaderboard but don't plan on getting too far up it (at least not at the moment).
To tell the truth I'm a bit more curious as to what these new maps are going to be like. I'm also more interested in having more multiplayer maps to play with and I'm hoping they create coop leaderboards that are actually worth going for. That's something that I'll be interested in.
