Where's the Tournament?
Hey Everyone,
I'm just wondering if everyone else misses the actual tournament mode that was in some of the previous UT games such as UT2004.

I feel like they dumbed UT3 down a bit from its predecessor's, I was rather disappointing to find UT3 didn't have a proper tournament like 2004 and a team management system where you team could actually gain experience the more you played.

Does anyone know the future plans EPIC or whoever else developes and decides this sort of stuff has for the next UT?

On another note I only just got the game a couple days ago and I have to say I never thought it would be so good on a console (I have it on PC) and I'm fnding I'm enjoying it a lot more then I ever did on PC. Trick is to set Controller sensitivity to the lowest and turn acceleration to the highest, that setup makes it so easy to control quickly and effectivly I sometimes forget its a console game =P. Also the graphics surpassed what I thought possible on the xbox (because I know it's not the best hardware especially compared to the PS3 or my PC).

Anywho thanks for reading up until this point.
Tell us what you think on the matter because everyone likes a good discussion. =D

I loved it in the original UT, and yes it wouldn't hurt to have it as an extra mode for UT3 but its kinda late now.

Also, Epic mentioned their shelving the UT franchise for a while, speculating that we won't see a new game from it for a couple of years...that is if they don't completely drop it, which I hope they don't.

They most likely are dropping it, UT simply does not have the draw that Gears does. Chainsaws make all the difference i guess.

Gears is a horribly slow and boring game. God I wish hype wouldn't ruin the sales for games that are actually good.

Thats the truth.  Fast paced and arena shooters just don't have the same draw they used to.  Given that FPS'es are in full-swing consoles, PC gaming is waning(UT2K4 is still played way more than UT3 on the PC), and all the popular FPS'es have been slower-paced(Halo/GoW) or tactical(Tom Clancy franchises), games that are back-to-basics just don't stand a chance, as fun as they are to the older generation.  CellFactor:PW sold poorly and had a lukewarm reception, I feel the same will happen to Quake Arena Arcade.  All my friends are Halo heads and unanimously agree that anything speedy is bad.  :(

Can't wait for the next Rainbow Six... O.o. Wasn't Cellfactor free on the PC? I downloaded it for free on their website. Man that game looked good on my computer. I guess I'll get over all the problems with this game once I get a new one, I'm just waiting for Crackdown 2.. Assasin's Creed 2......  Just Cause 2........ Wow there are a lot of good games coming out in the next few months.

I personally enjoy a good mix of tactical and chaotic FPS games (except Halo. Always hated Halo), and while I love UT3, I still miss some of the larger maps from UT2004, and I miss Assault mode too. I'm wishing for a mix of Assault mode and Warfare, where you don't just go for the core, but for other targets too inside of the enemy base that are entirely optional, but give you an advantage. Like a few seconds of seeing all enemy targets on your map or something.

So... more things to blow up, and some  nifty bonuses for doing so, please.

Re: Where's the Tournament?
Quake 3 Arena Arcade is going to be really popular. Everyone i talk to is getting it. Expect 1v1 tournaments for Q3AA with cash prizes. Arena shooters take the most skill and it's sad to hear people say they would rather play a game like gears or halo.

Couldn't agree more.

Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Championship, & Unreal Championship 2 were pretty good aswell (well I enjoyed them anyway).

I enjoy Unreal tournament 3 the least out of all of them (even Unreal Tournament 2003). It's not a bad game but it just doesn't have the same feel as past games did.
