We Need a WWI Shooter
Yeah, yeah I know the weapons were much different, but I think a WWI shooter would work.  The trenches, the early versions of a tank, close quarters combat, etc.  How about Call of Duty 5:  The Great War???  Anyone else think a WWI game would sell?

I also think there should be a WWI game, and depending on the sales will depend on which company makes the game and how good it is.

It would be a great idea, and if it were one of the CoD games I certainly would buy it.  Lewis gun & a trench club for me please!

Re: We Need a WWI Shooter
And interesting choice, but I think the problum is that the Great War, or the First World War as it is known as now, was very controversial unlike the Second World War. (which was still controlverial, but not in the saem way as the First.)

Also, the fighting tactics were diffrent. Alot of it was waiting in trenches dieing of the cold before you hope over the edge and get machinegunned while the officers sit in their cabin drinking. It was horrible from what I know of it.

It wouldn't work. Not for the Call Of Duty franchise anyway. Too slow-paced. Frankly I'm surprised there have even been games released on the Civil War, running around with single shot muskets and bayonets. Sure it may be educational, but MAN is it boring and slow. The CoD franchise could easily pull off an M rated Vietnam shooter that would be amazing. Even something set during the Gulf War. I'd also be all for yet another WWII themed game.

I think it would work great! There was plenty of warfare used during WWI,for example: pistols, machine guns, rifles, mortars, gas, flamethrowers, granades, tanks, planes, airships and submarines. There were also plenty of interesting scenarios… :-)

TBH, most of the First World War was lying in trenches dieing of the cold before you went over the rim and was machinggunned. It was not on the same level as the Second World War. I don't think it would make it very interesting.

Not every soldier of WW2 fought at Omaha Beach and not every soldier of WWI died of the cold.

I know that. I also know that there were more people than the Americans fighting so if your presuming that I'm an American who thought that I'm insaulted. My point is that the First World War was fought diffrently than the second. It was not about invations into towns and cities, it was mostly battles in muddy ditches. Look at the French/German border. It was a mudfield back then.

RE: We Need a WWI Shooter
I dont think they will ever make a game which plays in the first world war... The campaign would only be attacking or defending a trench and would be quite boring soo... multiplayer however would be the same story, only on trenches...
Can't wait for MW2 to be in the stores -.-

On the western front of the story, I think there is more than enough to make a complete game.

But, I wouldn't see it doing well with MW2 around the corner and the following that CoD4 still has.

Double Posting FTW.

I thought that the trench warfare moments could be used for cut scenes and the major battles would be the game.

It would mostly be in trenches, It may or may not work. Why not try Darkest of Days for the time being. It has WWI segments. Closest you'll get I'm afraid.

Re: We Need a WWI Shooter
I was actually thinking about this the other day. I think it would be intense and more haunting than WWII. people puking and suffocating from mustard gas, midnight bombings burying soldiers in their sleep, or some awkward moment when its super silent. and all your companions are dead. Valve could make it work!!

Did America participate in World War 1? If not, that's probably the reason there are hardly any World War 1 game's out there. Infinity Ward know how to make a great war game and they could turn World war 1 into something exciting.

America was in the First World War, but they came in late, just like in most wars.

Oh, burn! XD

Re: We Need a WWI Shooter

Maybe noone noticed the posts telling you how nothing exciting happened in WWI.  It was almost entirely based on getting mowed down in a large field by mgs or sitting in a trench dying of artillery, trenchfoot, starvation, and getting shellshock.  Not a good concept for a fps.  A WWI dogfighting game would be interesting.  Ahh... early aviation...

Which is what I have been saying. It really would not work.
