im curious is there any fire based attacks?  if so how do you get it what does it do how do you use it and is it upgradeable?

Yes, there are mages with fire spell and items that allow the other characters to use fire too.  You get these spells depending on the layout of the map and who you have on your team each mission.  They aren't really upgradeable, but later missions have more powerful versions of the fire spells.  The best use of fire spells is on ice based levels, where you can melt the ice beneath enemies' feet and drown them.
