You aren't the only one that just lost his sound. I just turned my 360 on the other day and I lost all sound through my HDMI connection, and I've had it all along, up until last week :( Is there any way to delete this latest update?
I've tried all the fixes I could find so far, including the Y + RT at startup, taking the HDD out and reinstalling it, and a brand new HDMI cable that just came in today. I do have audio through the component connection. Seriously Microsoft, how hard can it be to get one issue fixed? Just go back to what worked. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Ok, I just got done trying every sequence of unplugging cables and turning the TV on and off. What I did first was go to System Settings > Memory > then press Y, X, X, LB, RB, XX, which does "system maintenance". All this apparently does is delete some of the patches and the cache of whatever crap it stores over time, but no saved games or achievements will be lost!
Next, I unplugged the HDMI cable from the back of the 360, turned my HP HDTV off, plugged the HDMI back in to the rear of the 360, waited 5-10 seconds, then turned the TV back on and voila, I have sound again! Suh-weet! I hope this helps, and I'm not sure if it's necessary to do the "system maintenance", but it definitely loads the dashboard a LOT quicker!!!
