http://www.gamersyde.com/news_8240_en.htmlOpen world Tomb Raider in Japan against strange creatures. Sounds like Final Fantasy XXI.
Lets just say:
1. Corpses should stay. Making them disappear was a horrible addition by Crystal Dynamics
2. This kind of game must not have invisible walls. Level design has to be atleast that decent not to allow them. Without succeeding in this there's no chance an open world game will work.
3. Death should be more horrible. Often I rather die than live and travel through an area again. All in all checkpoint system is horrible. Removes the fear and disgust of dying completely.
4. More freedom. The games made by CD have way too many scripted moments. Comparison bethween TR1 and Anniversary proves it completely. Now Lara decides much of the stuff herself, in old games I was in control.
5. Longer game. No amount of extra treasures and challenges can overcome the experience of the first playthrough. This game should be more like 30 hours long. With 10 hour campaign it is bound to fail against the likes of Halo and GOW. Tomb Raider barely interests 2 playthroughs while most people can easily play Halo campaign 5 times.
6. M rating is good in making the game more realistic. Now no one and nothing gets wounded, ripped or crushed while they last enormous damage and move like a monkey without getting tired. Very tame and not scary or thrilling. The 1st games had worse graphics, but getting smashed by the hammer or falling into spikes felt much more brutal than it feels like in the new games.
Tomb Raider 1 pushed me into spectacular locations. Most of the time I was Lara instead of just watching and listening her or someone else. She was quite realistic in terms of strength, speed, fatigue and health. I was curious and afraid at the same time. Tomb Raider1 was one of the most beautiful, expansive and athmospheric games around. The new games are short, shallow and average compared to other games.
Exp.
1. Alan Wake 2. 2. Conviction 3. Dead Rising 2 4. TES V
