HOW TO FIX THE NO-VITA CHAMBERS GLITCH!!!!!!!!!
this is exactly what i did to fix the vita-chambers option and get the brass balls achievement. i have to start off by saying sorry i just rented this game for the first time a couple weeks ago and fell in love with it so i bought it, sorry not 2 years ago when it first came out. anyways here it is:

you need some other kind of storage device, like a portable little memory card that you put in the front of the console, forgot the exact name their called, mines a 64 mb card.

play through the game on hard (duh) and dont die (duh) up until you receive the adam syringe from the little sister right before the fountaine fight. save here. exit.

with the other memory card, transfer the saved game you just saved into the memory card (ONLY that last saved game, none others).

turn off your xbox. disconnect the hard drive.

turn on xbox (duh), leave hard drive out (duh) and play the game, get the update first (it wont let you connect to xbox live if you dont), then the ryan genetics plasmids (whatever its called) download , there should only be two if you havent smoked crack.

load game from memory card. now you should be in the same room as before (duh) but this time when you press start and go to options there should be the option to turn off vita chambers

turn it off (duh), beat fountaine (use electric gel first two times then whatever electric gel you have left and homing missiles or exploding buck works great too)

brass balls achieved. thats exactly what i did to get the vita-chambers option available. i already had a memory card i just figured what the heck why not try this, nobody has posted this kind of solution before (i think).

dance.

Re: HOW TO FIX THE NO-VITA CHAMBERS GLITCH!!!!!!!!!
ALSO: to get the brass balls achievement you have to do the following:

1.) beat game on hard without dying, that means:

if you die like the little wussy you are (dont lie) turn off you xbox AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, DO NOT LOAD ANY GAME WITHOUT TURNING THE XBOX OFF. this way the xbox and saved game doesnt know you died when you restart the console. basically i knew i was going to die one time so i paused the game before i even hit the floor, turned the xbox off then on, reloaded the last saved game and continued kicking quantum singularity.

2.) you must have the disable vita-chambers options available, if you dont you will not get the achievement.
3.) im not sure if you let a little sister die at the end when you escort her counts for or against you so just get maxed anti-personnel ammo for the machine gun and dont let her die. also all the turrets are your best friends during this escort too.

or you could just delete the dlc  make a silver account redownload the dlc sign back on to your gold account and youre good to go  which is a lot easier and less time consuming than what you just stated

or you can go F yourself because im pretty sure you didnt find one of the only 2 ways to fix this problem permanently, spacegrass80. and by the way spacegrass80, (at least online) you dont even have the achievement brass balls so dont be talking about something you havent achieved before...... if its so un-time consuming, why dont you just do it your way then? (i came to that conclusion after i saw you didnt have the "seriously good at this" achievement, so that means you didnt beat it on the hardest and you didnt beat it on hard with-out dying)  correct?

FYI: this is a proven way to handle the glitch, and it has been posted numerous times.  A person trying to help could relay this news to you without himself having finished the game.

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.

if u die, all u have to do is LOAD last saved game. no need to turn off 360 and all that. as far as i know, as i've 100%'d d game, u have to have disable vita chambers ON, so if u die, all it does is take u to d main menu and from there just choose LOAD instead of continue. JUST 2B SAFE! that's what i did. the proof is there.
as for #3, at d end it doesn't matter if d lil sister ur escortin dies. i know, 1 of em died on me and another 1 came out but i had made saves B4 just in case i needed to back track so i went ahead and beat d game and i got the achievements.

Re: HOW TO FIX THE NO-VITA CHAMBERS GLITCH!!!!!!!!!
ok, I got the brass balls achievement on my first playthrough. I didn't do anything special, I didn't turn off the vita chambers or flip out like my hair was on fire when i died. All I did was made sure I SAVED FREQUENTLY.  And if I died I just loaded up my last save. You don't have to do anything special, just pay attention to what you're doing. I'm 100% positive about this as I just beat the game a week or two ago for the first time.

Re: HOW TO FIX THE NO-VITA CHAMBERS GLITCH!!!!!!!!!
Well I just beat the game on hard without dying and then downloaded the DLC and beat Fontaine again on hard and I got the achievement. I just need the upgrade 5 guns achievement (killed Sander Cohen at Fort Frolic :( and I didn't know I would need him later) and I need the 53 gene tonics achievement and I have them all.

Same here, I always saved before I entered a new area and I would just load my save if I died. All on my first playthrough also ;) ALSO I DID IT WITH VITA CHAMBERS ON!!! You just have to load your save and you're fine.

Yes, Vita Chambers can be on, but you must have the option to turn them off in order to get the achievement.  And there is certainly no need to turn your machine off, just reloading is fine.  In fact, I got about halfway through the game without even having the option to turn them off, reloading every time I died.  Then I installed the add-on, loaded up my game, turned off the chambers (just to be sure), and finished the game.

I played the entire game on hard just loading my saves everytime I died and beat it and then bought the DLC that lets you turn off vita chambers and then beat Fontaine on hard again and I got the achievement. BTW Fontaine is REALLY EASY! I expected a lot more from the final boss of the game.
