The Futbol Gods are Against Me...
I've had my Xbox360 since February, and had very little problems. Very little freezing problems, and not much of that "disc unreadable" stuff that seems to plaque a lot of gamers. I keep my system clean and am comletely neurotic about the care of my discs.

I bought FIFA 07 with my console and started a manager mode. I went through two seasons then started over when I realized I couldn't figure out how to add a created player to my squad after having started a manage mode. So I started over in the FA Premiere League. I made it through two seasons and began plowing through the third. Having the day off today, I played quite a few games and made it to the very last game of the 3rd consecutive season, the ECC final against Arsenal. About 11 minutes into the match, my Xbox froze (just as I was abot to score the opening goal.) No big deal, I figured. I'd been playing for a while; time to give the machine a rest.

So, I went off and got something to eat, read for a while, decided to get back to it. Got through the game, smashed Arsenal 7 - 0, and advanced through the game. Everything seemed fine, but when it showed me the league tables at the end of the season, it wouldn't advance past them. I figured since autosave was on, it has saved the progress and I could simply reload and start at the beginning of the next season. So I exited to the dashboard and reloaded the game. I found I had to play the ECC Final all over again. I was shocked, but got to it. In the 87th minute I was up 4 - 0, when I got a "disc unreadable". I checked the disc, it had a few minor surface blemishes, but nothing major. After trying many times, the disc still won't read.

It's just freqin' heartbreaking, having worked so hard through the 3rd season, to have my game get all wonky on me. It makes it worse that I was only about 20 wins away from my 300 wins achievement. Now I don't know wether to buy another copy of 07 and finish up where I left off, or just wait a bit and get 08 when it comes out. ...something tells me I'll wind up getting both...

Update :

The situation doesn't seem to have changed any. In addition to my disc still refusing to be read, I went out to 2 Walmarts, a Gamestop, Target, and 2 Meijer stores and the only soccer game I could find was a used copy of Fifa Road to the World Cup, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 for 60 bucks.  I think not. If I'm going to spend 60 dollars on a new soccer game I'll just go ahead and wait for Fifa 08 to come out.

The rediculous thing is, at the Walmarts, they still have copies of NCAA Footbal 07, and Madden 07, and NHL 07, and NBA 07, and every other pansy sport that's popular in the states... but no Fifa 07.  They even had some new copies of old ORIGINAL Xbox games, but no Fifa '07.     A point of interest, when the old bag of a clerk at Walmart asked me if she could help me find anything, I asked her where the bargain bin was, and she said "we don't do that, they probably got sent back." I looked at her dumbfounded, and proceeded to walk around by myself for a bit... Lo-and-behold, I found the bargain bin, with as many copies of Alaskan Game Hunter and Lego Star Wars Episode II as I could ever possibly want. I went back and found the clerk. I said "So, you don't have a bargain bin, right?" "right" she said. "Then what the flying f*** is that?" I asked beligerantly as I pointed to he bargain bin.
"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave..." and was then escorted out by Walmart security...

Ok, here's my solution if one of your discs gets scratched. Go to a game rental place (I use Blockbuster) and rent the scratched game that you've got. Make sure it works ok, then switch the discs around and return the game, so now you have a brand new copy of Fifa 07, and Blockbuster have your old scratched one.

This has been suggested to me by a number of individuals, actually. I thought about it, but figured I'd rather not mess around that way... Besides, the main difficulty here is just finding the stupid freqin' game, at this point...

Dont rental games come with a different design on the c.d? I remember renting from Blockbuster years back and i swear the c.d had Blockbuster, not for resale, and that kind of stuff on it. Then it would only work if the retailer did not check the c.d when it comes back. If they did, you would be liable for prosecution.

Re: The Futbol Gods are Against Me...
It's not that the disc is printed differently from rental sources, but that the rental source (Blockbuster Video, Hollywood Video, Family Video, etc. etc.) usually slap thier own brand of anti-theft/anti-tampering stickers on thier. I know that Blockbuster used to use metallic stickers that, when removed, invariably left the sticky-film behind in a patter that said "VOID VOID VOID VOID" all over the place where the sticker was. Family video uses a stamp right over the serial number of the disc in a form of ink that cannot be duplicated without a few hundred dollars worth of equipment. I'm sure there are other methods used.

Point is, that if the clerk happens to notice that the disc in the case does not bear the video store's serial number and identification mark, you will find yourself in an actionable position, namely prosecutable for a Theft,  misdemeanor level 1. (I've been up on an M-1 theft charge before. Not fun...once it's on your record, even though its just an m-1, it screws you for a good long time... people would rather see an assault charge on your record than theft, but I digress). If you somehow get lucky enough to have someone else rent and return the game before your switcheroo is discovered, then you have plausable deniability in that you can blame the person who rented the disc after you. But, if they discover the switch and you're the last rentor on the record as having checked out the game... well, you can get burned.

It's alright, though, as I finally managed to replace my game. It took about 45 minutes of driving (one way) but I found a Best Buy that still had some on the shelf. I decided to pay the extra 3.75 for the product replacement plan. Seemed like a good idea because the clerk informed me if this disc goes unreadable within one year of the purchase date, I can take it in and exchange it for a new copy or store credit. I'm thinking about checking into wether or not the discs are individually serialed... if they're not, Best Buy may find themselves receiving my unplayable copy in thier box while I enjoy the good one at home... ... or maybe I'll just wait for Fifa 08 to come out, return 07 for the 30 dollar credit and effectively get '08 for 30 bucks.... hmmmm....

I didn't notice anything on the disc, and I compared them side by side when I did it. Maybe it depends on the country or the rental place...

If you can get away with it mate then sweet. I'd lose my job if i got caught, for the sake of £40 i'd just buy it again.

Ouch what a story. Personally i'd be very pissed off at this point seens as if this was me then this would be my 3 unreadable disc is 2 years of owning an xbox and I too keep good care of them. I just don't get what happens to the disc to make it unreadable. Yer Aar0nPwns your right it does depend of what country your in. UK video rental shops such as blockbuster and choices don't stamp there discs because we have less of a problem of piracy.

I think it's just moving the Xbox when theres a disc spinning that scratches them. I try not to even touch mine when there's a disc in there, but three times now in about a year I've had unreadable discs (the first time doesn't really count though, I switched the Xbox's position while the disc was spinningEmbarrassed [:$])

Re: The Futbol Gods are Against Me...
My Xbox might as well be glued to the entertainment center. I never move it, save to clean it, and only then when the power is off. I don't usually store a disc in my Xbox when it's off, so jostling in that respect isn't really a factor either. I think I might've just lightly scraped the thing putting it in or taking it out of the tray once or twice... who knows... regardless it doesn't matter because I've replaced my game...

Just in case you're curious I did wind up beating Arsenal in the ECC final 5-0, and the new game actually saved and proceeded to the next season. Yay.

Re: The Futbol Gods are Against Me...
Oooh ouch, that's gotta suck.

But that is rather curious, because that's right around the same time (number of wins) that my game started going all wonky on me. I wonder if just after that many times of being played there's no way to keep it from getting minor surface blemishes... or if playing that many games, your xbox starts to *** up tracking so many stats or something. I tend to doubt it, but one never knows.

I DO know that I'm less than 20 wins away from 300 by my profile stats, but at least 5 or so of those are online wins so I've still got just a little ways to go. Getting close on my goal-getter achievement, too. After 22 games of goal-stat tracking, I've found myself with an average of 5 goals a game. If I can keep it up, I'll snag that one around the same time I get my 300 win achievement. SNAP 240 points in the blink of an eye. That'll be nice.

I don't think it's because you play it too much, because I've played my Oblivion disc for like 65 hours and it works perfectly. Maybe EA uses cheaper discs or something though...

Re: The Futbol Gods are Against Me...
(Holy resurrected topic, batman!)

I had thought of that, but I didn't feel like paying an extra $20 for over-night shipping. I wanted the game as quickly as I could get it, and at the time gas was just cresting over $3.00 a gallon and my car gets over 30mpg, so it wound up being cheaper to drive around and find one than it would have been to order it from Amazon and get over-night shipping.

Yeah, I was on my 3rd copy of Need for Speed Most Wanted (another bad cd for freezing) and my GTA IV started freezing so I said "to heck with it" and traded the whole kit-n-kaboodle in for a PS3. Couldn't be happier.
