Is Anyone Still Playing This Online?
I tried to play this online yesterday, (I never had before but had it around and thought I'd check out if the online play was worthy of replaying...) and I could find virtually no one to play... I tried searching custom player matches, and only found one match with only one guy there... I'd waited at least 3 minutes and not one other person joined up so I left... I tried joining a ranked match and none were hosted, hosted my own and no one joined, then hosted my own player match and no one joined that either! I didn't bother with the team matches, or those that require manual style driving, (as I don't think I could do that) but is that all people play? I was pretty confident SOME people would be playing as I thought this was one of the more popular racing games, but it seems like I have an easier time finding someone on Ridge Racer 6 than I do here, which is pretty novel to say the least....

I don't care about this thing, so why should you?

This game never had a big online community... Just a warning, the majority of the people out there that play this online race dirty, or at least they have in all the matches I have been in...

And I'd thought PGR was the premiere racing franchise for the 360, maybe rivaled by Burnout and/or GRID... I'm really surprised the game's never had much of a community, but thanks for the info (once again as a matter of fact; I think I've run into you regarding Need For Speed Carbon before too). How do people "race dirty" though?

Forza Motorsport is the "premier" racing franchise for the Xbox 360... People race dirty by ramming into the back of you on corners so that you end up in the wall, and they like to cut corners on the F1 track as well...

Key word there, "was".  The problem with the series is that it went downhill with each release since PGR 2 and Bizarre Creations slowly but surely alienated all of their fans.

Re: Is Anyone Still Playing This Online?
Maybe I hadn't noticed that because the first one I played was 3 (I actually never really did racers until this gen; achievements, affordability, and online play have attracted me to them I guess). Something I did consider odd about the franchise though was that PGR tries to encompass everyone so much there's little about it that distinguishes it from pretty much anything else... It's simple enough to appeal to arcade racing fans but CAN be complex enough to appeal to simulation fans, but there probably are more superior franchises regarding both spectrums of the racing sub-genres than this one, so although the franchise isn't bad I think that's something that would hold it back from being a commercial success regardless of how well it does critically (but again, I'm probably a racing noob compared with you guys :-P).

Were they only team and/or requiring manual shifting style games?

I always pick the street race option from a custom game on live. There were quite a few races going on. Mind you, I don't play on manual.

Re: Assunto: Re: Is Anyone Still Playing This Online?
its because micro$oft for some reason chose not to really market this game. i mean simulation racers arent well popularized like FPS, and yet the forza 3 demo was one of the most played games on live when it came out.

on a side note, i hate how alot of the hosts in pgr4 NEVER EVER change the weather, i mean once in a while isnt bad wtf?

This game was kinda swept under the carpet.  They still haven't patched the dynamic shadows.

Re: Assunto: Re: Is Anyone Still Playing This Online?
I have PGR3 and when it came out there was plenty of online play, then I tried playing a year after it intially came out and online was a ghost town, nobody was playing it.  So I am debating on even bothering to pickup PGR4 since it is been a while since it has been out.  The replay value of older games dies when the online community disappears.  I usually buy games new and keep them, but games that rely heavy on online for replay value, I think it is better to buy used and trade up then waste time keeping it.
