Operation Flashpoint
Yeah, I know what forum I'm in.  To me, GRAW2 is one of the best tactical shooters we have on xbox.  And this forum is full of guys who feel the same way.  Hey, no disrespect intended for R6 Vegas 2, it's a great game.  But I expect that GRAW2 is a better comparison of OF than R6V2.  Anyway, I'd like to get this forum's impression of OF.  The OF forum seems to be full of a lot of COD fans and that's not the game I'm looking for.  So that's why I'm here.  Hope this doesn't bring on the insults.

Based on the hype, OF was going to be the best tactical shooter to ever come to a console.  Now that the game has come out and after reading a bit on the OF forum, it doesn't sound like the game was ready for release.

So, for those of you that know, should I put my GRAW2 aside and get busy on OF?

Re: Operation Flashpoint

I enjoy Co-op games more than Multiplayer, let me get that out there first.

I am enjoying this game alot.  Bugs and glitches, i have not really encountered any that majorly affect my gameplay.  I have some GRAW buddies that I play with and we have a good time with the co-op.  I havent tried the Multiplayer much, so no real opinion yet.

Overall, this game is one that you may not enjoy with random people, but with the right communicating bunch, can be insane.

Ah, well that's good news then, because I'm a Co-op guy too.

Re: Operation Flashpoint
After playing through both GRAW's and Op Flash, I can say that Op Flash is a much more tactical and realistic experience.  Do not get me wrong GRAW 2 has tactical gameplay, Op Flash just takes it to the next level.  I love both games.  If your looking for a more tactical game than GRAW, try Flashpoint.  Be forewarned that there are a few things about the game that may turn some people away.  One of them being that there are bugs in the game that causes your character to have no gun, and also the hit detection can get extremely shoddy.  Another thing too is that the graphics are average at best.  I hope this helps with your decision.

Re: Operation Flashpoint
In my opinion, OFP can't hold a candle to the GR games for multiplayer.

Weapon Model.
Ghost Recon uses a "conical" shaped bullet path that is random.  OFP game actually uses bullet drop.  It is VERY refreshing in that way... .but the multiplayer hit detection leaves something to be desired.. which eliinates the fun-factor of bullet drop.

Single Player
I abhor GRAW single player designed by Ubisoft, so I am not a good guy to ask about that.... but I have ALWAYS enjoyed the GRAW multiplayer section (designed by Red Storm Entertainment) for single player.  OFP single player game reminds me of that, only HARDER.  Yeah I mean the GRAW multiplayer co-op missions and pre-GRAW ghost recon.  If you liked that, you will probably like OFP single player.  The bullet drop weapon model works well in OFP single player.

Co-op.
OFP builds on this nicely except for two things.  1). some missions you ONLY get iron sights.  This is really awful ESPECIALLY if you haven't developed an "eye" to identify the OPFOR without an optic with zoom.  2). Multiplayer lag and poor design of vehicles and respawn grapics can be a problem.  Some guys play with hosts with great connections and this is not as much of a problem.

Multiplayer
Fom what I understand only two maps?  The little bit I played was VERY painful.  Not sure I will play the multiplayer much because of that.

This game could have been so much more than it is.  I wonder if they actually play-tested it before release?  There are some really glaring problems in MP.

Re: Operation Flashpoint
Here are my thoughts on GRAW/Ghost Recon vs. OFP.

GRAW1 and GRAW2 single player are an embarrassment. THIS should be avoided at all costs. Too linear, too arcade, auto-aim/magnetic bullets, too much HUD crap and diamonds/markers, NO replay value. Ubisoft should be embarrassed, I know most Ghost Recon guys ARE embarrassed for the series INCLUDING all of us Console players that want a tactical shooter (and there are a LOT of us). It can't compete with COD4, Halo3, etc. and it SHOULD NOT TRY TO. This play style NEEDS TO BE ABANDONED.

OGR all the way through GRAW multiplayer....

Aiming
GRs random conical bullet model is a lot more "simple" than OFP bullet drop, but BOTH sure beat the hell out of Halo3, Rainbow 6, and Call of Duty arcade aim. GRs conical hit pattern is FINE to tell you the truth, but either is OK in my book. OFPs is more true-to-form and therefore more refreshing.

Maps
Any MP game that ships with only 10 maps is simply SAD. Ghost Recon consistently does this with the new re-vamp of the series (See GR2 and GRAW1). Awful. Really damages credibility with a guy looking for long-term playability. OFP’s two maps for MP is, well, odd. Don’t they want to SELL the game? Who the heck decided two maps was enough for consoles that don’t have a mission editor? Dumb. Granted, I totally understand the cost of production and time constraints. Still, how can that possibly be acceptable? It would be like buying a new car at a dealership and they only have two tires on it…. with no extra tires for sale. Dumb.

Random placement of enemies.
GR does a lot better job with random spawning and movement of enemies. OFP enemies are predictable in spawn locations. This should be changed in OFP.

Non-linear
GR co-op missions and firefight based on the multiplayer engine are open-ended and non-linear. The bigger OFP world would be neat in a GR game, but with GRs random enemies thus far GR multiplayer co-op maps are big enough for me. NEITHER GR or OFP are linear. Keep in mind I am NOT including GRAW single player in the discussion. GRAW single player game is CRAP and everybody knows it. STOP focusing on GRAW single player in discussions.

Firefight
OFP has a nice huge map. What about a FIREFIGHT mode. Sure, it would be more like "hunting".... but wouldn't it be fun to cruise the WHOLE island with friends in a hummer... going from the swampy area, to the mountain area, to the wooded area, to the beach bunkers, etc.

Weapon Selection
OFP FORCES you into certain weapons. Whilst I understand this for game-flow... you SHOULD be able to bring ANY rifle you want (of the 10 or so in the game) with any optic you want (two or three optics). Sure, dress-up-Barbie for your weapon would be nice but is not necessary. GR's pre-fab kits is fine. Bring whatever load out you want on a mission. Don't force me into a SAW with no zoom and iron sights when engagements need to be at over 300 meters for me to survive the mission.

Jog/sprint
Sprinting in OFP is well done, GR needs a sprint button.

Ammo
OFP ammo count seems VERY low. I thought standard rifleman load out was upwards of 300 rounds for in-field operations like Afghanistan? Perhaps if you are on patrol in a Hummer/APC extra ammo is located there? Ammo count is simply too low in OFP.

Hits to kill
We could talk for hours about hits to kill. From what I have read in police reports (see my link posted here in another thread) and other material I have read... generally combatants continue to fight on even when injured... and most police reports are for documented hits on suspects with NO armor. Whilst the # of hits to kill "seems" out of line in OFP perhaps someone with actual combat experience can speak to how many and what kinds of hits a soldier with full body armor can take before he is combat ineffective. I gather from evidence in my reading on the subject that some people are documented fighting on with serious wounds whilst others are ineffective with what one could consider a non-critical wound. Ghost Recon's one or two hits to kill is a lot more fun than OFPs hits to kill, but perhaps the latter is more appropriate especially when you hit your target center of mass and center of body armor.

Vehicles
Vehicles in OFP are poorly done and therefore SHOULD HAVE BEEN SKIPPED. I know for most wet-nosed Timmies vehicles are a MUST for marketing purposes (Sales) but if you are going to do it half-assed then don't put it in at all. Skip the embarrassment they are when an adult actually plays the game and sees how bad they are programmed.

Part of a bigger picture
BOTH games need to be part of something else. Yeah, I understand that there is a big story line and all that like all games, but it is time for a “plug-in” to a massive war or something. Something a-la Chromehounds war. You pick a country this week and fight against other online countries for dominance of some kind of Island. Take OFP for instance. Can’t there be some kind of “war” that ends each week with Chinese vs. USA… to determine who wins control of the island? Give each faction half of the island so each have to both defend positions vs. attack enemy strongholds, whatever. Heck, even a “campaign” where two teams face off in a series of 10 or more battles to determine who wins the island. Attacking team alternates each round with aggressor picking the next area of attack for the other team to defend. Winner determines what portions of the island are under your control. Winner of campaign is first team with 10 wins or control of the island…. Whichever is less.

Re: Operation Flashpoint
Ive played alot of games since super mario way back in 85 I played all the recons,i played GR2 and summit strike so much that if i ran outta xbox live id even go play it on xbox connect :) But  GRAW2  is the best so far ,the co-op when you have a good host is some of the best times ive had with games, got it way back in 07 and still play heaps!!

The MP Vs is also very team based with choke points, you cant just run and gun you will get slaughted, sometimes rushing is good tho...

Theres just something about it, how the 3rd person/1st person zoom works so well unlike alot of game that just make it boring,or how you can just hold the left sholder for abit of zoom for some quick close kills

Sp was pretty good(god rays whoar!)

Dont even bring COD into this ,every game in that series after COD II has been made for 10 year olds....

Waiting for next recon!! they got some talent those ubisoft frenchies

There is no comparison, Graw is the better game in every way, for a game that came out 3 years ago not to mention. I got my achievements out of OF2 and I'm done, I will trade it in toward MW2.

The more I play the single player OFP the more it reminds me of GR and GRIT style of play..... except with vehicles.

I am looking forward to going through in HARDCORE mode.

Thanks so much guys.  I really expected that you guys understood where I was coming from.  I definately brought this up in the right forum.

My son already ran out and bought OFP so I'll probably pick it up to play with him online.  But left to my own, I'd probably pass.  Many of my friends are still playing GRAW2 and I would imagine that's where the majority of my time will continue to be spent.

I agree 100%. I got my achievements also and sold it to my friend. OFP: DR is complete garbage.
