I have shot down the helicopter twice and still no achievement. I am doing it on single mission mode, does this make a difference? Or is there something else I may be doing wrong. The first time it crashed but the pilot lived so i thought maybe that was why I didn't get it, but the second time it exploded on contact and still no achievement.

When the pilot lived was helicopter intact? You could still blow it up or try again if its only damaged like propellers aren't working. Single Mission works for all of them, first time I did this my squad shot it down but didn't get it, which is funny cause its says "your fireteam".

Anyways, keep trying. I found it best to just shoot at it with your regular gun and it usually has a CHANCE to provoke the pilot to crash land it or something to land and come out at you, then you can blow it up.

I didn't get the achievement but, funny story is, when I played through the mission (if its the mission im thinking about) it crashed on its own. Laughed my quantum singularity off at that one.

my bud had a problem with this achievement as well..and i also think he was trying it on single mission..but then we started the campaign on hardcore and shot it down no prob and got the cheevo.

That happened to me at the end of the airfield mission I believe.. The attack heli at the end, I shot 3 M16 rounds and it crashed itself..

I'm having problems with this achievement too.  I've shot down the helicopter dozens of times and no achievement.  I've shot it down with my rifle, then blown it up while it was on the ground just to make sure.  I've even hit it in the air with my rocket launcher, and still no achievement.

Went and tried my luck on Hardcore and it finally gave it to me.  Funny thing is, I launched a rocket and missed.  I never even hit the chopper and the achievement unlocked.  The 20 + times I've blown up the sucker and got nothing for it.  Now I miss and I get the achievement.

I missed with a rocket (since I already had it out), so quickly pulled out my M4A1 (marksman) and fired into the helicopter's belly as it flew over my head. I watched it crash, explode and burn... But no achievement. I ran over to where it crashed (beautiful fire), fired a few more rounds into the burning wreckage and the achievement popped!

For those reading up on this: The helicopter appears after the second APC is destroyed at the start of the mission. The helicopter will fly from the south east in a northerly direction. If you are looking at the blown APCs (immediately south of you), the helicopter will fly almost right over your head.
