As I've told other people who have asked, just try the demo and decide for yourself whether you like it or not.  The demo is a very good indicator of what you can expect from the game.  Oh, and keep in mind that the price is down to like 30 bucks.

its an amazing game but just know that it is VERY short. i beat it in like 6 hours or less. anyways im still going to say buy it cause its still extremely fun to replay, plus the time trials are challenging.

Re: Is Mirror's Edge worth buying?
As negative as the "up to you" person was made to be by later posters, I have to agree. Every single game that you like and hate is purely hearsay to your own personal interests in what appeals to you. However since the featured genre's in games are a bit limited for the games that gaming industries put the most effort into, it explains why a majority of the community may like one game over another. I plan to rent this game since I do not have the money to buy it, but I enjoyed the demo, and wish to continue past that part. I do wish the demo after the tutorial was a little bit longer. Would have also been interesting to see a "Race" feature in 1vs1 for multiplayer. Though sadly that isn't so.

I bought this game, I think it's alright.  I can see how one can love this game, and one can hate it.  Try the demo or rent it to see if you like it, then you make the decision.  I don't think it's a game where you don't have to think a second before buying it.
My opinion does not equal fact.

I just got it at Sears for $19.99. Been meaning to pick it up, but I really didnt like the demo that much. Turns out I just needed to get used to the controls. Once I figured them out, its been loads of fun. It gets frustrating in parts, but its an interesting game, and the graphics are really stark and different (good thing!).

The demo turned me off of this game when it was first released.  When I saw the price was down to $19.99 at Best Buy, I figured it couldn't hurt to give it a shot.  I'm glad I did.  Like you, I really began to enjoy this game once I took the time to acquaint myself with the controls.  Well worth the price.

Its a nice change to play a game that relies on tactics other than a well placed head shot to get the job done

I'm playing a rental right now...some thoughts. It's very original, makes you think about your next move. I'm not sure if this is the only first person platforming game out now? It's a great rental, and a good buy like someone said if it's now $20.

Yes [Y]
Great rental, but I'll be sending it back without going for all of the achievements, which is somewhat unusual for me.  But as someone else above said, you really ought to think about renting this one, or at least playing the demo before you buy.  It is unique, and very well put together, but it can also be very frustrating and is definitely not a game for everyone.

Ditto, I found it challenging to play an FPS without the main priority being to shoot the crap ot of your enemies. It's tough, but worth the time since you get to step outside of a genre of games led by Halo and CoD IMO.
If this is too hard to understand I could draw it out in crayon, do you prefer Sky Blue or Mac and Cheese?

Re: Is Mirror's Edge worth buying?
Definitely worth it. after passing story mode try time trials and speedruns.  Be forewarned you WILL break a control in the process.  THis is in a good way, because the time trials and speedruns are addicting and very challenging.

Re: Is Mirror's Edge worth buying?
The Game is probably in my top 5 on the xbox. The game is visually stunning, especially if you take the time to adjust the settings to your visual liking. Also, the music in the game was superbly done. I personally like to turn the music up to max. The story is relatively short, but most games that have a story as good as this have short game times (see Call of Duty 4). The story takes 8-10 hours to complete, especially if you go for the Test of Faith challenge from the get go. This is purely in my opinion, but the game has an extremely high replay value for the story mode and the time trials/speed runs. Playing each level is just fun. Running full speed and just making a leap not quite sure what lies ahead. The story really hooked me in, and that just added to the experience. So, I would say buy it.

This game is one of those rare little gems that you just don't want to get rid of because it is so different and special.

Plus you can buy it really cheap these days.

Well worth a purchase.

I sent it back not too long after my previous post.  It is different, and was very well put together.  I am glad to have been able to play it, but also glad that I didn't buy it.  If I had, it would have gone into my pile of games and probably never moved again.  I will play 2 if/when it comes out, but it'll be another rental.  Unless they do something to boost the replay value it'll be another game that I was very happy to rent.  I don't find the time trials and speed runs enough fun to bother with, and the game gets too repetitive for my tastes.

It would have loved more options in terms of playing style.  Regular runner - with some combat and some acrobatics skills, Ninja - with poorer open combat skills, but higher acrobatics and the capability of performing sneak attacks, and Bruiser - with comparatively low acrobatics, but a strong direct attack.

I do agree that if it was in development for a bit longer some of the quirks would have been ironed out, but on a whole, I really enjoyed it. The graphics, music and story were fantastic.

Re: Is Mirror's Edge worth buying?

i got this from play.com for only a £5 two weeks ago, was told by my local Gamestation crew that it would be a good test to see how my new 42" LCD TV would work with my new Elite Console upgrade for the HDMI port

There is just something about the size of the TV and this game that just stuns me, so large, the feeling of running around the rooftops is off the chart....

not gotten into the story of the game fully yet, but i am liking the game engine and the mechanics of it, and i never though i would enjoy it, but the visuals alone were worth the buy
