New? Or thinking of picking R6V2 up? Read here!
If you're new to Rainbow 6 Vegas or are thinking of picking it up look no further than this thread.

In awnser to the questions you will probably ask:

Yes Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 still has a thriving online community. You can find many matches during almost any time of the day. The forums can be active, though not as active as some others.

Yes it is worth picking up. It has a decent single player, and retains all the game modes from the last game too. It looks better than the last game too.

Yes it has more weapons, more armour and clothing, and a revamped PEC system.

No not all the old maps are present. Only Killhouse, Calypso Casino, Presidio, and Streets make a return via downloadable content/on the disc (excuse any I missed). There are also several new maps that are actually worth playing.

R6V or R6V2? Upto you. They're both pretty much the same almost so you may aswell get the sequel unless you're holding onto the nostalgia of playing the old maps. If you were an elite in the first you get some nice goodies as a thankyou from Ubisoft when you boot up R6V2 for the first time.

If you want to make a clan or join one look/post in this forum. That's what it is for.

Lastly read this pretty amazing FAQ. If you don't read this, and then ask a question on these forums that is awnsered in the FAQ I won't defend you from the hounds. Wink [;)]

Then just point them to this thread and ask them to do the same to anyone else who does so. Let's get them all to ask away all their questions in one thread than spam the boards with the same topics over and over.

Oh and if you think it's worth looking at please rate the thread. It's one of the best ways to get people new to the boards notice it if it is not stickied.

For some reason I cannot download the streets map pack. I don't know why, I've got the red and black map packs but no streets, and cannot find it anywhere else. When I try to join a game it says I don't have the required maps. Anyone have any idea whats up with it? Thanks.

You have to sign up for a Ubisoft account. It's in the game menus under "Extras". By the way, the red and black packs are for Vegas 1, not Vegas 2.

Thank you for making this thread. Hopefully we'll stop seeing 23 different "should I get this game or not" threads on the front page. Good post.

Nice post and its a pretty good place to ask me question. I played this when it was first released and got burned out on it so I traded it. Now Im thinking about picking this up again. I heard that there was an update a while back that tweaked the gameplay significantly. Is there that much of a difference or is it not very noticeable?

There were some small changes (like rate of fire alterations for some guns, etc.) but nothing too dramatic.

they also added a grenade indicator, like COD. they added high stakes mode. made incendary grenades take longer to explode. those are the only differences i noticed.

Are you sure you are trying to get the maps for the proper game? The Red and Black map packs were for Vegas 1. To get the streets map you need to make an UBISOFT account and download it. Despite doing, this sometimes the game requires me to go back to the dashboard and re-start the game to recognize that I have downloaded the streets, comcast event center and the dark maps.

Great thread.

Justed picked up the game, loving it so far only a couple of hours in.

Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for basic hints on controlling your teammates.  No instructions, can get them to storm rooms but I've heard I can send them to one door and then enter through another myself.  Can you do anything similar out in the open?

You can command them to take up a position, but you won't make them any smarter than a bottle of tepid tap water. They are good for breaching and clearing and carry a supply of ordinance to throw around. I find that for 95% of the game it is better to play it with a friend, go solo, or leave the turkeys hiding in a corner where they won't get in your way.

Co-op is definitely better, especially if your team mates are switched on and have half a clue what they're doing.

Most of the time when i played i made sure i had two weapons that i was extremely good at using. One long range and one short/mid range. i equiped them with silencers left my team behind unless i really needed them and beat the game that way.

There are shields in R6V2.

Fortunately the shields were improved since the first game. In the first game, you were completely invincible from the front, but in R6V2 you can still get hurt from the front, mostly in your feet/legs.

And I agree with the OP, this game is still very much alive and alot of fun.

Still alive?? RB6V 1 & 2 are still the 2 best games on the 360 and crap all over GOW and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.

RB6V is way ahead of its time and you will see other games like GOW start applying a similar cover system with alley way combat etc. Not to mention the AI in RB6V is so much smarter and varied than the boring, predictable  put-you-to-sleep AI in these other titles.

When im playing RB6V campaign i forget im playing a computer. When im playing GOW or COD i always know im playing a piece of computer programming.
