Xbox LIVE Preview Program: Zune, Facebook and Twitter
via majornelson.com

I am happy to announce that we’re doing an Xbox LIVE Update Preview program for upcoming features such as Zune, Facebook and Twitter. Much like we have done in the past, you’ll need to visit the Microsoft Connect site from this link and sign in with your Windows LIVE ID that is connected to your Xbox LIVE Gamertag.

Once you do that, you need to fill out the "Xbox LIVE Update Preview Sign Up" survey in order to be considered for receiving the Preview System Update. We're asking a few questions about where you live, your home network, ISP connection and a few other pieces of information. We are looking for a good cross-section of our members in order to get the best feedback we can.
The Xbox team will then review all of the applications and if you’re selected we’ll send you an email notifying you of your acceptance in the program.  A couple of points before you head off to register:

  • We’re looking for multiple thousands of participants, so your chances of making it in are good
  • This opportunity is open to all Xbox LIVE Members in regions where Xbox LIVE is available
  • Just completing the survey does not automatically get you access to the Preview Program. We’ll be making final selections from the completed surveys and send you an email if you are selected.
  • While both Xbox LIVE Gold and Silver members can sign up, Priority will be given to Gold members in the selection process.

For additional details and specific requirements, head to Xbox.com.

If you are accepted, you'll hear from us in about a week. Make sure your information on Connect is updated with a current email address so we can email you if you are accepted.

Sign up for the Xbox LIVE Update Preview Program

Good luck!

Yeah, looking forward to this.  Might just getting me using Twitter and Facebook on a regular basis.

It should be noted that "Zune Video" will be labelled as "Video on Demand" or something for ANZ.  We don't get the Zune branding cause we don't yet have the Zune hardware/service.

Anyone else signed up for the preview?

Wasn't there suppose to be a code sent to the people that got into the program so that you could get the fb,twitter, ect update to test?

Nope.  You had to submit your console ID and serialnumber at the Connect web site when you registered for the preview.  If you got in then the Live service detects your console when the preview is rolled out and promopts you to update.  Once you have the update you can download the clients for Facebook and the Video Marketplace.

I'm seeing lots of moans and groans about the Last.fm region restriction. Music licensing is a Pandora's box. Windows Media Center on Windows 7 linked to your Xbox 360 is a better media solution anyway?  :)

Yeah I'm cool having Facebook and Twitter but totally bummed out when we miss out on Last FM. I was really looking forward to that.

One minor complain also is the new 'Zune powered' Video marketplace. It seems to run as a separate app now so it loads slower than it was. Even browsing my Video Library takes a bit of loading time now.

Yeah, there do seem to be some oddities with Zune video at this point - random scrolling through your video library, no direct access to your recently downloaded vids and so on.

Has anyone tried downloading or streaming any movies?  I've done both and was pretty impressed with the streaming.  I had no problems at all which surprised me.  My connect isn't the best.

Gazza, you're right, head to the Microsoft Connect Site and submit feedback - (Feedback Link).

On another note, got my notification email on Friday, still no update Sad [:(]  and I see there is plenty of feedback on the connect site saying the same thing;

I did get the WPA2 update last night at 10:55pm though, Smile [:)]

Preview participants should now have access to Halo Waypoint.

Plenty of Halo Vids and ODST related avatar awards.  Nice.
