Vs: is it WORTH it
I didn't like it. The only reason why it's not as the last game I've played is because that place belongs to Dash of Destruction for good... I don't like the controls, I don't like the way you fight and I don't like the small amount of items you can have. Maybe you can borrow it from a friend and try it out? I don't know if there's a demo. I doubt there is.

For $5 or $10 it's worth it.  Any more than that, probably not.  Nice graphics, interesting but disjointed story, but just awful controls.

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.

The story was cool and kept me going even when I felt like throwing my console out the window. Unfortunately the endings sucked. If your curious, I suggest borrowing it from someone rather than shelling out the money to rent (or heaven forbid, buy).

We have normality. I repeat, we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

The game is no where near as bad as people make out, sure the contoller set up is a bit crap but you get used to it after a while and for £4.99 at PLAY.COM its a bargain, although i'm not sure i understood the different endings.

Lmao, way to answer a question with another question Smile [:)]

Honestly, I overlook the so-called bad controls.
The only part of the controls that Alone in the Dark fails on, is third person.
Usually like most games where you see your character in full body on screen, you would use the left analog to make him move forwards, backwards and strafe left and right.
While using the right analog to move the camera right and left, allowing you to turn correctly.

That is not the case here.
Left analog is used for both maneuvering forwards, backwards, left and right.
Whilst the right analog simply let's you tilt the camera left and right. (And when pressed in, gives you a view of the area behind you) Same in a vehicle.
Aaall that can be easily avoided though, by pressing ''Y'' and going into first person :)
Then you get your standard shooter controls.

Now the vehicles, the driving in this game isn't that bad either, it's no walk in the (central) park, but it's not horrible. (See what I did there?)
The brake is the reverse (As far as I know) and you will encounter three actual driving missions in the game.
That's the only problem I had, as the first is devastatingly unforgivable, example: If you die RIGHT at the end of the first driving level.. it's right back to the start of that level heh.
A good 6 or 7 tries and I had it, embarrassing yes.
The second can be quite a toughy also, but certainly not as difficult as the first, and the third is real easy.

As for the story, I loved it.
The whole game plays out like a series as when you select "Continue" on the main menu, you'll hear the main character's voice say: "Previously, on Alone in the Dark"
Proceeding from there it then shows you the various cutscenes you've watched (Shortened) and also shows actual gameplay footage of yourself Smile [:)]
I found that whole episodic introduction very intuitive.
Oh and it's all skippable by the way, to those who wanna get straight to the game. Stick out tongue [:P]

Anyways, those are my thoughts Smile [:)]
All in all, I picked this game up at my local game store for £10.00.
I got it very recently and it's quite dated now heh.
And for all those achievement hunters out there, myself included, this is a fun, not overwhelmingly challenging, not too easy of a game, and a very full, enjoyable 1000 Gamerscore =D
I'll also add I just last night got all 1000G, and I would love to offer advice to those struggling.

Graphics - 7.5 / 10 (For the time of release)
Gameplay - 6.5 / 10 (Not amazing, not terrible, just above half way)
Story - 8.5 / 10 (Best part in my opinion)
Value - 10 / 10 (At £10.00, Why not?)
