dance pads
ok, here's my problem: I used to spend ridiculous amounts of money in arcades playing ddrx2.  I wasn't amazing but I could get AA's on light, and play standard no prob.  I recently bought DDR Universe 3 with the pad and I'm sucking like crazy. Even when I step on the arrows, it says I miss or w/e, I slip with my socks on, and stick with bare feet.  I think it's the plastic mat. I looked high and low on the internet for a metal dance pad for 360.  I couldn't find ANYTHING.  so here's my question: Do they even make metal pads for 360?

Re: dance pads
ya know I just happened to be looking for some more answers on this when I came across ddrgame.com which claims that there metal pads work for the 360 universe series and other work for the ps3 even.  I bought a ion pad from these guys for the universal set PC/Xbox/Ps2 and it worked marginally well--great for its intended purpose.  The prices on the the 360 are almost double that though and was wondering if anyone has any experience with some of these guys 360 or PS3 products.  check the website anyways though

Dude! I've been looking for something like that for a year! They have three metal dance pads on that site that are compatible with the 360 with an adapter. There is a DDR Energy Metal Dance Pad, iON Metal Dance Pad, and iON Master Arcade Metal Pad that will work with the 360. I am seriously considering getting one but not the last option because it costs $1,115.99. Does anyone know which between the Energy and iON is better? Those two are the exact same price and I need to know.

Re: dance pads
Well like you just said "it comes with an adapter", if you find out what the adapter is maybe you could use the adapter for a better metal dance pad.

Re: dance pads

To my knowledge these are the only 3 metal pads that will work with the adapter. Otherwise they would be listed in the 360 section on the website.

Re: dance pads
Just buy an XFPS adapter and use a PS2 hard pad with it. The adapters aren't cheap ($80-$90) but they work great with Universe + Cobalt Fulx pads from what I hear:

Re: dance pads
I use cobalt fluxes on 360, no adaptor, but I had to do a little modifying ( less than 20$ worth of parts from radio shack), if anyone is interested in how to do it, the process is outlined here:

http://www.sinistarddr.com/

It takes a little soldering, but it's not complicated (ask a techy friend if you don't have the confidence).  In fact, any pad could be made to work with the 360 by using the appropriate kind of connector.

Pretty much all you do is separate the pad (the buttons) from the control box (the black hard plastic thing at the top).  The control box is where the circuitboard is housed.  Throw away the pad and connect a 15-pin connector (or whatever type of input your pad of choice uses) to the circuitboard.  You also need a start and select button since they aren't on most dance pads.

For my second one, I didn't even have to solder, I just took a 15 pin cord, and taped the appropriate wires to the corresponding leads on the circuitboard with electrical tape.  This means that I don't have start and select, but since it's my second one, I don't need them.

As for the price, the good pads (Cobalt flux and Blueshark) aren't cheap, but keep an eye out for deals on ebay and Craigslist.  I got my second CF almost brand new on Craigslist for $160.  Even if you do end up biting the bullet and laying down full price for a Cobalt flux, it WILL be worth it in the long run if you plan to stick with DDR for a long time.

EDIT: forgot to mention, the link gives instructions for xbox, not 360, but the process is identical.  Also, when it says you need a madcatz Beatpad, you could also use the Konami Original dance pad included in any of the universe bundles.

I'd rather lose with E.Honda than win with Sagat!

Re: dance pads
I'm in the same boat.. kinda, I guess. I used to play DDR in arcades long ago, and I always prefered the metal/light up dance pads over the plastic. ):

Re: dance pads
I bought the Mad Catz Beat Pad Pro a couple years ago, and while it worked beautifully for a while, I'm now noticing some issues with one of the arrows (specifically, it often thinks I'm hitting the down arrow when I'm nowhere near it - a couple times when I'm not even standing on the pad at all.) Is it normal for a pad to wear out this quickly? Should I be purchasing the same type of pad again or look into something sturdier?

I'm working in a small amount of space, playing on a carpeted surface. I generally get A's and B's on Difficult songs, and can pass a few songs on Expert. I generally play 3-4 times a week, about 30 minutes at a time. I'd like to keep improving.

Thanks for the advice!
