I'm new to Soul Calibur
I hardly ever played Soul Calibur games but the few times I have, left an impression on me.

Anyways, my questions

1. Online community still active?
2. Is this SoulCalibur true to what makes the series of SoulCalibur great?
3. Is it a balanced fighter?
4. Will there be a SoulCalibur 5 coming out anytime soon?

Your welcome to add any other info I should be aware about.

Thanks :3

I can't answer all of your questions, but:

2. Yes, definitely.
3. Yes, though you'll hear a lot of whining to the contrary, just like any other competitive game. A few characters are a little weak, and there are some moves that can be exploited with the online lag. The best competitive experience is with somebody else on the same console.

to answear your questions.

1. Sort off. Depends on what time of day it is.

2.  Very very much so.  I think this is the best version since SC2

3. Yes.

4. No this is the last (unfortunetly) in the series. When you play the game you will see what I mean.

Yes, no matter what time of day you want to play online, you will find matches.  Finding a match with ideal ping may be another issue though, but during peak hours it isn't an issue.

The best Soulcalibur online resource hub is here:

As an enthusiast of the franchise since Soul Blade, I definitely think so.  You will still find it is still the 'thinking man's' fighting game with all the feints, traps, counters, and mind games that have been present since day one.

Unfortunately (and this is a huge problem) all of this gets lost in online play.  The inherent lag prevents most matches from evolving past a spam fest.  It is possible to adapt your playstyle to succeed online, but the games rich psychological game is pretty much absent on XBL.  After awhile it starts to feel like you could be playing Street Fighter 4 instead.

There are varying tiers of character strengths to choose from, but the cast of this title is large enough that there are still many competitive characters to choose from.

And also, even playing a less popular lower tiered character can lend you an advantage, due to the fact that many people may not know what to look for or know what they will need to defend against.

Hopefully with better latency.  :)

Re: I'm new to Soul Calibur
Jaden did you not read my post. There is going to be NO MORE Soul Calibur. They have finished the series. Look at a lot of the characters end stories and you will see what I mean.

The reason there is going to be no more is that in Japan they have this moronic ruling in the Video Game industry that says Females in Fightng Games cannot be any more than 30 years old. So that rulling rules 4 of the main female characters permanantley out of the game. So Namco decided to just end the series. Did you not notice that the characters never aged. Except between SC1 and SC2 where they aged 4 years. But after that they didn't. It was because of that.

I too am disapointed. As it is my favourite fighting game.

LOL!! Where in the world did you hear that??  That is the nuttiest thing I have ever heard of!

Ok even if that insane rule actually existed, how in the world could they have made games like Tekken 6, Street Fighter 4, or King of Fighters 12 that include females from the original cast?

Plus I don't think they would cut the franchise short because they lost 4 or 5 characters... the cast of soulcalibur 4 could be cut by a third and still have more characters than many of the other fighting games out there.

Re: I'm new to Soul Calibur
Jaden I will tell you where I got that from. I got it from the Soul Calibur forums. It is perfectly true about that rule in Japan. Think about it, In Soul Calibur Sophitia for example is 21 years old and has her first child. In Soul Calibur 2 she is now 25 years old and has 2 children. In Soul Calibur 3 and 4 they didnt age the characters like they did between 1 and 2. Also look at the stories for most of the characters the are all final stories for them. For instance Zsasalamel is now living in our time, Taki vanishes into the darkness for ever. Same kind of story for most of them. It is the final installment for the game. As for like Tekken 6 etc like I said all you have to do is not age the characters.

Wow... just wow.  I've been on the Soulcalibur forums a pretty decent amount and have never heard anything like this come up.  This seriously has to be the most insane story I have seen in a good while.

I am not sure I am following your argument here...

You are saying that the franchise is ending because in story mode the player is being shown an ending for their character?  Did you miss when that happened in SC1 - SC3?  Because those games have endings too!  Holy smokes how did they keep the series going when they showed the game end like 3 times in a row?!  How many times can you realistically end a story and call it finished and then change your mind and make another sequel?!

You are also saying to abide by Japan's official rule of 'no fighter game females over 30 rule' Soulcalibur would either have to kill their successful franchise or stop aging their characters, which you just said they started doing.

So if they stopped aging their characters, why would they stop making Soulcalibur games?

The ending stories in SC4 are FRANCHISE ending stories. A lot of the stories are PERMANANT ending stories. And not just a story that they can come back from. It is not like say Sophita having a baby but is is still able to continue. They are all permanent ending stories. Just like series ending stories you might get on TV. For instance Zsasalamel is now living in the 21 century and it says he will live forever..  Also SC2. 3 and 4 all take place in or around 1570. So if they moved it to 1571 they would have to age the characters a year and putting a lot of the females past it. They said it themselves there is only so much you can do in 1 year.

Example in Dead Or Alive none of the female characters are above 25. And I dont think they have ever aged. Where as Taki is 29 and Ivy is 30. I think they are the oldest females in ANY fighting game.
