I'm interested in the response to this. I'm sick of buying Pro Evo at full price every year, only to find it's exactly the same as the last one and half-price a week later because nobody has bought it. No matter what people say, though, FIFA is always second rate because the game mechanics are all wrong and there are too many cheap goals. It's all about graphics and licenses.

Plays better than the demo. I would say its ok offline. Players look great, menus are crisp. Shooting is brilliant with quality players. Likes of Rooney,Gerrard,Lampard etc... But online again feels broken.. I have had about 6/7 games, and everyone the players feel like they are on ice,and transparent. Every other game i own, seems to work reasonble well. When it comes to pro evo,its the only one with "issues".. Glad i only rented it. I will buy it,when it comes cheaper...

Fifa is second rate? are you for real? its all about licences and too many cheap goals! Do you know the year is 2010 because you are talking about Fifa from 2006/07 since then its improved 100% and has left Pro Evo way behind!

Well the last one I owned was World Cup 2006, which was truly dreadful. I've played more recent demos, and full games at friends' houses, and never enjoyed them. The physics never feel right and the problem with cheap goals persists. Maybe I should give FIFA 10 a go though. At least then I'll either be proven wrong or have a more solid argument!

Re: PES 2010 is.................
PES 2010 is a good game. Not perfect as you say, but definitely great fun. I'd give it an 8.5/10 so far.

Master League has been completely changed, I think in general most of the changes are really good. You can now negotiate for players any time of the season, although if you reach an agreement outside the transfer window you'll obviously have to wait till the next window opens before the player makes the switch. The scout does all the negotiating for you so that saves having to do the tedious transfer and wage values youtself which used to be a bit too random in previous PES editions.

I started a master league with Barcelona and I tried some different things out. I told him to negotiate a transfer for Bendtner from Arsenal, after a few weeks the scout offered me a deal to buy him for 21 million euros (its real currency now although the numbers are the same even if you pick dollars or pounds).

I tried signing some much higher rated players, but most of them turned me down, as expected. Can't be too easy now can it. Although I was able to sign Trezeguet for 18 million and Lampard for 30 something million euros.

Anyway my scout can also suggest players to me if I select a certain position and pick likelihood of player agreeing as a factor. In the case of a striker likely of wanting to join my team, Owen topped the list in overal player rating so there's also some 'bargains' to be made.

I really like the training options in the master league now as well. You can, at a significant cost I must say, train a player to have a special ability, or card as they are now called. Takes about a dozen weeks but then your player will have an extra special ability. You can also train them to play in different positions. This will come in handy for when you play players out of position (they can start to moan and become unhappy).

I tried a handful of games online, still a bit laggy and sluggish reactions. Its possible to join online tournaments though so that looks interesting to try out later. Not sure how it'd work, if you have to play all your games in one sitting (ie you have to play as soon as the other winner of the KO stage has finished his game).

The PES 2010 demo was awful, much like last year the demo is a very poor indication of what the game in reality is. If you like playing footy on the PES engine over the fifa engine I'd suggest buying the game, its definitely worth the money imo.

Its possible to simulate matches now, so some will find this a good addition others may not. I'm not going to simulate much unless I'm in first with a healthy gap. I like the fact when you start a new master league you can edit the regulations of the league. So you can pick league cup games be just 1 legged like they are in England as apposed to 2 in Spain and Italy. You can pick which suspension system you want (complicated English one, Spanish one where a red card = 1 match suspension and several other possibilities) and how the league position is decided when teams are level on points (head to head, goal difference, etc). All in all some very nice choices to make the league just as you want.

The gameplay has improved a lot since 2009. So far I've been really pleased with defensive performances, I get a feeling of satisfaction everytime Puyol makes a great tackle or interception, something I didn't experience as much in 2009. I've also noticed I don't need to edit the defensive positions of my players when I play against a friend, something I always used to do in previous versions (put the CB as close to the goal line as possible, side backs just inside the box) so that I wouldn't be hopeless everytime he counter attacks. Now its still possible to defend well with a really high line like Barcelona's default strategy is.

The target men upfront have a much bigger responsibility in 2010 than in previous versions. Players like Berbatov who are tall and strong but fairly slow were never ideal players to have in your team before but now they can play a much bigger role. Ibrahimovic is now one of, if not the best striker to have in the game because of his incredible physique combined with his super finishing and technique. The tall target men are really good at winning long balls and holding onto the ball whilst your mids/wingers get in position.

Some issues with the game though:

outdated squads - Gudjohnson still at Barcelona, Sneijder and Robben at Madrid, Sheva at Chelsea, etc. I was expecting a downloadable patch which would instantly solve this but nope. I mean it wouldn't take more than a few hours to update the biggest teams...

Data management - lineups aren't saved/loaded in data management which is just stupid. So every time you play a match and have a saved formation, you need to make all the subs. Really annoying, especially online if there's a short timer to make changes.

penalties - they have been changed so that you can now add power but the lack of a power bar plus the stupid side camera angle (as if its normal play) mean you have no realistic control of the penalty shot. It usually just goes straight down the middle or horribly wide/over. During a (multiplayer) penalty shootout you get the proper camera angle but still no power bar to indicate how hard/soft your shooting.

Sorry about the double/1.5 post. Edited the 1st one but apparently the time to edit ran out so I wasn't allowed to post anymore? If a mod would delete the 1st post that'd be appreciated.

Re: PES 2010 is.................
i've been playing it on ps3 and here are my throughts....

its really good and a huge improvment over any of the others on next gen consoles, and is a good game compareing it to fifa 10.

Things better than fifa 10 are:
its harder to score making a game tense, unlike fifa i find is a goal feast.
visualy its great not all the glamor and glitz of fifa with full polished zombie footballers but much more gritty and players faces and likeness are amazing best ive ever seen.
Wales are on it.

Things fifa are better at are:
100% offical kits and teams which is always a plus for fifa games
player movment is alot better and easyer to control pes sometimes feels like your fighting the pad.
be a pro is alot better than become a legend which is just boaring.
and as normal the menu systems are all better done with more care.
commentry its still terrible on pes

Overall they both offer diffrent experince its just what you rather both well worth a go.
My Top Games Gears Of War, Rainbow 6, GAW 2, Dead Rising, Forza 2, Fight Night, PES6,

The player models do look better in PES, I plan on getting this game as soon as it drops in price. Last year it dropped in half by March.

Re: PES 2010 is.................

I'm just glad (from the demo and from what i've read) that it seems like it's heading back in the right direction! At the moment i'm a FIFA man, loving FIFA 10.

But let's forget FIFA for now, because i'm 110% PES at heart. I grew up on PES (i'm 19 now), saving up pocket money for months to get the new PES when it came out. Now luckily i'm old enough to have a good job and be able to buy the games myself.

But PES 2008 and 2009, for me, were rubbish. PES 1-6, for me, were godlike. Unbelivable good gameplay, master league was like crack, and i never stopped playing them. But recently, Konami have lost the plot, alienating long term fans of the game.

But this year, i'm glad to say, is the beginning of a comeback i reckon.

I'm enjoying the demo (and from what i've heard the demo isn't even that good a representation of the gameplay), and i think the gameplay is heading back to the good old days.

And they have finally done something i, and i'm sure others, have been pleading for them to do; revamp master league. And wow, from what i'm reading from ALEX AMSTERDAM, they look like they have done a great job. The scout doing all the work sounds amazing, exactly the ideal set up in my opinion.

I still think i'm going to wait until a price drop (or even christmas) to get PES 2010, but when i do i know i'm going to be glued to the master league. Hopefully Konami push on, and get the game back to where it belongs; NUMBER 1!

Re: PES 2010 is.................
Have played about 10 games in total online and the lag is better,  some games are perfect, some are not, but its definitely better than 2009.  You don't get the same slidy slippery feeling as PES2009.

However, i'm utterly bored already of this version gameplay wise - it just doesn't grip me at all.  I don't like the way every player has this animation for making a simple turn and stuff like that,  almost feels like they are trying to stop human players who like to dribble, meaning a lot more drawn games and a messy midfield where people keep losing the ball.  You can't even execute an RT command and expect your player to stop every time,  sometimes they just keep running out into touch and stuff like that.  Just find it too irritating.

Don't even get me started on the Stocked Formation bug,   how they managed to get that past testing, i'll never know.

Gamespot gave this game a rating of 6.5/10  and  they are probably about right.   Having said that, i'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it.

Selling my copy as of today !  (still not buying FIFA though,  although maybe i should ??!!)

p.s.  I've played over 1000 matches on PES6, PES2008 and nearly 1000 on PES2009  - so feel am in a fairly good position to make a judgment.
