What's going on with this download?? after updating my xbox with the december 4 update i thought i could stream xvid n divx videos. but when i try to play one, it says that i need to download Optional Media Update 51-C00DF236. but when i try to download it just goes to another page n nothing happens. theres no link to download the update. what should i do??

Hi Gotu,

I had the exact same problem while playing my DivX or Xvid files. The problem is that in the Indian Live Marketplace this Optional Media Update is not available for download and hence you get nothing when you press that "More Information" button.

This is how you get around this problem.

1. Sign out of your Xbox profile.

2. Create a new profile/gamertag.

3. Connect to Xbox Live with it and select US as your base location (this means you'll have to create a US gamertag).

4. Then provide all the details it asks for connecting to Xbox Live US (you'll have to enter a valid US City, State and Zip Code for connecting --- you can look up any address in US on the web and provide it here).

5. After connecting, select your membership which would be silver (if you have got your 1 month gold free membership remaining do select it).

6. After connecting to the US Xbox Live, go to the Marketplace Blade.

7. In there go to "Game Store" then select "All Games" from the list. From the next list select "Optional Media Update" which is a 2 MB download. Download it to your Xbox. 

8. Thats it!!! You are done. Try playing your files once more.

9. When you have varified that your files are working you can sign out and login to your Indian Gamertag and play the files again.

Once the update is applied, it is valid for every profile on the system. This is tried and tested method which I've tried on my system. If you have any more questions, message me on my gamertag or reply to this post and I'll try to answer.

The technical issued have been resolved and the Optional Media Update is now available for Indian Xbox LIVE users.. As soon as you try to play a Divx file from a portable device  it will give you the option to download the media update.

Arghh not downloading in uk shows 1% then does nothing after a while comes up connection lost  tried to re download 4 times now its supposed to be 4.64mb anybody else in the uk having the same problems

Im having this exact problem aswell, im in UK, i can download demo's etc, just not this update, typically the only thing i want to d/l right now, anyone got any clues?

Same problem here. I'm also using an UK account. When i try to download this update, it gets stuck at 1%.
I just got a new console (replaced the old one). I even tried using new German profile/gamertag to see if i can download this update. But nothing, still stucked at 1%.
I really need this update. Without it i can't watch my movies, series etc...

ive tried creating a silver account, and going through the motions the ms article had but no joy, can't get the update, all other aspects of downloading work fine however.....

cant download the divx update i think u need some ms points

Somebody please help. I am from Slovakia, which is not supported by xbox live, so I can't download the codec for watching dvix/xvid videos. Do somebody have any idea how can i download and install that codec without xbox live?
