For all the old players...
Are you going to get Borderlands?  From the reviews I've read, there seem to be Morrowind-like settings -- tough, pre-leveled enemies, etc.  I think I may, but not until I have some time to actually play it.
Can't this wait 'til I'm old? Can't I live while I'm young?

I hadn't heard much about it, so will Google it and see what I can find out. But, if it's at all like Morrowind, I'll be giving it a try.

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.

I don't know.

Considering statements like this probably not.

I don't know what you mean by old players, but Borderlands is (like a lot of games in developement right now) blatantly trying to capitalize on the success of Fallout 3. Post apocalyptic open world RPG shooters are in right now. Yes I'll buy it and play it because I like that sort of thing and the game looks pretty good. Will it be of the same quality as Fallout 3? Probably not.

I'm pretty sure he is referring to people who used the forum before the "Morrowind Holocaust".

If you don't know what I'm talking about read some of the older threads here.

Re: For all the old players...
Well, I've owned Morrowind since it first came out, so I hope that qualifies me as an "old player." Regardless, it seems (from other player reviews) that Borderlands is more FPS than RPG, which I don't personally mind since I'm a fan of both genres. I might buy it if more of my friends do since I'd only be buying it for multiplayer (I hear the story isn't the greatest).

What sounds the most interesting to me is that it's a loot-fest type of game. That's what made PSO so addictive back in the day. Never knowing what you'll find in the next corpse, crate is akin to some heavy addiction. That alone has me interested in playing Borderlands. Hoping to snag a copy tonight or tomorrow.

Re: For all the old players...
I bought it the day it came out and it's a great game. It is a Fallout 3 ripoff in the best possible way and Gearbox doesn't even try to hide the Bethesda influence. There is a bobble head right in the intro video and you are searching for "the vault", it's a different kind of vault but I mean come on.

When you play, the open world feels just like a Bethesda game where you can go wherever you want and do any quest you like in any order. The look of the game is pretty awesome as all the textures are hand drawn which makes it look really slick, almost like a gritty cartoon with some nice bright colors throughout an overall grey world.

It plays Much more like a traditional FPS (no VATS here) and the controls are exactly the same as the Call Of Duty series, which is nice. It is four player co-op and each of the four preset characters play much differently with funky things like phase walking and sending out a pet bird to attack enemies for you, my soldier has a turret with shields that I can set up. It is a loot game and the guns are randomly generated so each gun you find is unique. All you Morrowind fans need to play this game even if you don't like FPSs because I think this game will change your mind. Gearbox did the Brothers In Arms series so they know how an FPS should control and they've nailed the RPG aspect as well.  Did I mention vehicle combat? My car controls just like the Halo Warthog.

I'll sum it up like this, they took the best parts of Fallout 3, Call of Duty, Halo, World of Warcraft, Diablo and many others and assembled a great game.

I did get it yesterday and i'm somewhere around level 10. I've beaten 1 boss and am basically grinding to the next boss. I like it alot, but i'm not ready to give any reviews just yet. I think i'll have a better grasp of the game after a few more days, but i'm working alot all of sudden so i'm not sure how much time i'll be able to spend with it.

I'm looking forward to hearing your comments Goonie, and any comparisons you care to make between Borderlands and Morrowind (or Fallout 3 for that matter).

So you've killed Nine Toes? Hmmm that name sounds familiar, like it shows up early on in some other game as well...

"Old players" = the die-hard MW people.  Mostly, I was targeting them (you know who you are) because the reviews I read kinda described the game as having the same sort of challege as MW, even though it might not be a RPG in the sense of MW.

I'm impressed with how it sounds like this game is playing.  Will likely pick this one up.

Yeah, I was curious if the name was a blatant rip off or some kind of homage to Bethesda. They also borrowed alot of things from Fallout 3. So far the game is really fun. It's far from perfect, but I don't seem to care because "fun" is what gaming is all about anyway.

Re: For all the old players...
There will never be another game that so closely matches what I think a game should be as Morrowind does, even from Bethesda. I accepted that fact one minute into Oblivion. I'm all for developers trying to copy Bethesda though. You're right, Borderlands is really fun. It does hold my interest and I will play it all the way through with each of the four characters. Am I obsessed with it the way I instantly was the second I popped Morrowind into my Xbox years ago? No.

Well, Ranch and Goonie, you talked me into it.  I bought and started playing Borderlands.  Met up with "Toes" but apparently I was at too low a level to be competitive. So I'm wandering around exploring and finding things now -- very similar to what I did when I started Morrowind for the first time.  This game definitely has promise!  Yes [Y]

I think I'm going to get this next week, but still sitting on the fence.  From what people have said, I know I'm going to like Borderlands...  I'm planning on picking up the Dragon Age game if it is released on Tueday and either Borderlands or Forza 3.  I like the racing games and saw some good reviews for Forza (as well as Borderlands) so we'll see.  Please continue to post impressions from Borderlands.

I played Borderlands for like 4 hours at a friend's house, and I have to say.

It's a shooter that tracks how many kills you have and gives you 'levels,' that don't change much. Not an RPG, just a story-driven shooter. Like farcry, but far worse.

[I was in] last stand and he went to teabag me thinking I was dead. I then knifed him in the taint.

Ranch, Borderlands is more like Fallout 3 than Morrowind --- I'd call it Fallout 3 with wheels!  I'm at level 33, maybe 80% or 90% through my first playthrough, still really liking it. It's  a lot of FUN.

To each his own but if you only played it for 4 hours of course you didn't improve your character much. Dude you're posting in the Morrowind thread... I would think you would understand that it takes more than 4 hours to noticeably improve your character's skills in a game like this. To people who haven't played this game yet (this guy included) there is a skill tree system like World of Warcraft and you get one point to allocate as you wish each time you level up going down whichever path you choose, and it definately gives you new abilities and improves your character as you go. I don't even think it "tracks how many kills you have" lol.

Re: For all the old players...
The levels in Borderlands are based on Experience Points, not on kills.  Experience points combine kills, critical hits, task or mission completions, that sort of thing. For example, take one of those bugs that pops out of the ground -- you get more experience points for shooting him with a critical hit, fewer points for sloppy hits, and fewer points than that if you just hit him with your car.   So, 1 kill can result in a wide range of Experience Points.

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.
