Microsoft, and competitor's commercials.

If you have a tv connected to even basic cable, you'll see the PS3 commericals, and the Apple/Mac commercials.
They're outrageous.
The PS3 has yet to attack xbox360 in their commercials, but come on! Why doesn't the xbox360 have really cool commercials out showing off it's stuff??
And then on top of that the commercials attacking Windows 7 are just horrible. I can't help but imagine how many people that just have no idea what they're doing totally falling for those commercials and deciding their next computer will be a Mac instead of PC.
Maybe Microsoft doesn't care. Maybe they're not worried about this.
but as a huge fan of Microsoft and they're products, Can't Microsoft do something to assure its community, and prove, that it's better?

What's wrong with those commercials? MACs really are much more secure and can do everything that the general user wants to do. I find them amusing. Their latest with the flashbacks of MS saying how the new Windows will be more secure is really funny.

Sony looks like they are appealing as the "hip" console, whereas MS is trying to advertise themselves as a party and family console. It is just an image thing, but I bet the crowd which MS is appealing to is much larger.

I think you misunderstand the commercials on TV when they talk about security. I think you misunderstood my post too. We aren't talking about protecting IP or copyright protections. When people talk about security in an OS, we mean security for the consumer. Frankly I thought that was pretty obvious, but I guess not.

A MAC will not get a virus by simply being on a network or using the web browser. There have been zero so far. That is security. The user actually has to download the virus and then install it himself. There is no other way or have been no other way, unlike Windows. It is more secure.

Dunno why this seemed to have turned into a OS war thread but ok.

"MACS are much more secure" is a blanket statement. At no time did the word 'consumers' appear when you talked about security. Should a hacker managed to penetrate the OS on someone's machine what do you think will happen to that consumer and the data on the machine?

Re: Microsoft, and competitor's commercials.
Its not that mac is so secure. Its just that virus writers, hackers, etc don't target the mac because its market is so small.

I didn't think I had to. I was talking about the commercials. When apple advertises security to the consumer, they are talking about user security and not internal copy protections.

Yah, that would explain where there aren't thousands of viruses on a MAC. It doesn't explain why there are none at all.

I don't watch much TV, but I have seen the PlayStation commercials. They get the point across, say why they think they're good, and don't bad mouth the competition like a bad political ad. I think they're funny too, that's a plus.

I think Microsoft isn't advertising the console as much because they don't perceive Sony as a threat. Nintendo is targeting a different market than they are, and Sony is far enough behind them that it's unlikely they'll make up the gap this generation.

They are advertising Windows 7 though. I've seen a few for that, and I've watched them online too. Those are actually pretty nice. They're taking a different approach, but they actually show off features of the OS, which is nice. They also show people using it too.

Honestly though? I'd rather see them put money towards improving the console than more advertisements. There's enough of those on the Xbox already.

It's Mac. Not MAC. Two entirely different things. The flashback commercial is funny too, because Apple does exactly the same thing. What is Snow Leopard an improvement on? Leopard. What is Leopard an improvement on? Tiger. Panther, Jaguar, Puma, etc. Also, I wouldn't call an OS that deletes all your files if you ever use the guest account secure, but your opinion may be different.

Yah the Guest bug sucks. I am going to stop the OS comparisons here because I don't want the topic to close.

And whats wrong about this? For every Mac there are 8 PCs at least.

Macs are more secure for this reason alone, less users, less people who will try to attack your computer as well as having one of the most secure OS.

Since I was little Ive always used a Mac, and while there is no debate that gaming is better on PC, I still prefer a Mac for everyday use, whether its with Photoshop or other software, the OS is reliable, easy to use and secure.

So please, stop making this complaint like Microsoft is being a victim here, its not.

Re: Microsoft, and competitor's commercials.
Playstation commercials are always entertaining.  I love the one with the girl who bought her bf a PS3 and he hasn't hooked it up to the internet.  C'mon!!  What's wrong with him!!??

So much more entertaining than random people jumping rope somewhere in urban America.  Even if Microsoft did an ad campaign it wouldn't be entertaining as those launch commercials showed and the Windows 7 shows.

Microsoft could so be selling the new Facebook app on the 360 by having a commercial of a guy playing around on his 360 and it driving his friends mad with constant updates.  Maybe some girl pulling her hair out, some dude jumping out a window.

It doesn't even matter if the app actually would do that, it would just be funny and sell 360 functionality at the same time.  But no it would probably be a commercial with some geek saying I asked for that Facebook app!

Out of respect for the OP and not to drag the thread off topic I'm leaving the OS discussion here, as much as I'm tempted to continue.

Because it's just mud slinging on a product that is really awesome. I've had windows 7 for well over 2 months now since i was able to get it through my school ahead of time and I love it. Watching these commercials attack this operating system and thinking that someone out there actually believes them since they aren't submerged in technology really annoys me.
Thank you for admitting that really is one of the main reasons a Mac is secure unlike the other guy in this thread.
I'm not necessarily saying Microsoft is the victim. I just want them to pick up their game for me; the consumer who wants pride in their products.

Well, thanks to those who participated in this small thread.
Especially to Zyphyr2k8 for only voicing their opinion about what everyone was supposed to be talking about.
haha, i really hope they don't start showing commercials saying "the xbox360 update was my idea!"
and i had totally forgotten about the jumping rope commercial! that's so old ha.
I just wish Microsoft could think of something as cool as the PS3 commercials, and do it for the xbox360

Microsoft does advertise there stuff, they advertise things people want to see. They advertise the new games, new gear and new pricing on the consoles and accessories.

The Mac commercials should answer your question. M$ is a bunch of suit and tie wearing serious people while Sony and Apple are more laid back and actually care about their customers satisfaction and pride. The only xbox commercials Ive seen feature clips of exclusive games, thats it. Lame.

Re: Microsoft, and competitor's commercials.
ive only seen like 1 xbox ad in my country... apart  from that its just the wooshing sound and ''only on xbox'' in some corney american voice after an exclusive games ad. sony though has a bit more presense on our screens but the ad is stupid and is just like reading an advertisement in a newspaper or something nothing that really makes them stand out. Watching the ads that came on my 360 advertising wireless stuff just showed me how much better the ads are elsewhere.
