Eh....Borderlands was good, but it wasn't excellent. The story was complete crap; honestly, it wasn't in the least bit fulfilling. And the ending was (in my opinion) almost as bad as the infamous ending in the first Assassin's Creed. The enemies also get overpowered at times when you're playing by yourself; classes are unbalanced for playing in solo or co-op. Honestly, unless you're playing in four-player co-op, after completing your first playthrough, there's not much more to see or do by yourself. However, I will agree that the game is very awesome when playing with friends.
The story was Gears 1ish. Not much there in the first place, so many didn't care about the ending enough for it to matter. There's still subtle undertones, but none that are outstanding.
I'm surprised about the overpowered enemies comment. [OXM also mentioned it in their review.] Partially because I've seen a solo playthrough of Mordecai and he was mowing things down and partially because if you're having trouble on a part you need to either: A. Grab a shield with healing. or B. Gain a level or two.
In any game about loot there's nothing to do after you finish the main quest besides gaining more loot and making yourself stronger. Even with Diablo 2. The only real difference is that in Diablo 2 you have Uber Tristram to look forward to once you've beaten everything.
Still.. I have my own worries about this game. New Haven for example and the easily accessible duping. Myeh. Doesn't bother my gaming all that much, just don't want me friends saying: OMG! Can I have that awesome weapon? I'll give it right back after I dupe it! Oy vey.
[EDIT: Just found out it's "Oy vey" and not "Oi vey".]
