Re: today update will not remove the game by clear system cache
I can confirm this.   I got this game last week for the convenience of playing on my TV, and it's only been trouble so far.  The first time I had to reinstall is because I didn't know about the logout thing.  But I started doing it correctly.  Then today I was logging out like normal and it just stayed at the black screen when I was backing out.  I left it on for about an hour before I decided it wasn't doing anything.  Well now when I cleared my system cache to start the install all over again, it still gives me the disc read error and I can't even get to play online.  What a waste of time and money this has been so far.  If they would just give us the option to install to the hard drive like people could before there wouldn't be this issue!

It seems that they tried to do a clear system cache fix, so people wouldn't lose their game when doing that, but royally screwed us over by not allowing us to install to harddrive, and I really don't want to lose all my save games by formatting my hard drive.

FIX THIS NOW! >:(

Yes, this is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately. There is no excuse for having a massive bug such as this go uncorrected when your customers are paying $12/mo.

Re: today update will not remove the game by clear system cache
I agree this needs to be fixed as of ALREADY. I say microsoft should reimburse us 360 players for this inconvenience if not fixed quickly. Why should we pay money for a game we can't even play. When I logged out this morning it asked to do the update. Hoping that it would fix the PlayOnline Xbox Live bugs, of course I said yes. When the update was complete I tried logging back in, but of course got the usual "Can not read disc" error. I tried Clearing Cache, but when I did I had noticed that the free space did jump back up after I had done so like usual. So instead I found that reformatting the hard drive was the only possible way to clear it. All I can say on that is thank god I only had my Fallout 3 Updates and nothing else on there as those are easily able to be downloaded again. A while ago before they made it so you can "Clear Cache" you were able to download the game to the hard drive on anything bigger than a 20 GB Hard Drive. My buddy downloaded his at the time to his hard drive and NEVER had an issue. We even tried logging inproper on purpose multiple times to confirm it was good. What I am really getting at is that if Microsoft doesn't get a fix on this whole issue soon. They either need to go back to let us install it to the Hard Drive or reinburse us for the problems they have caused. I am tired of getting home from work wanting to play and having to reinstall for about 3-5 hours (depending on connection) before I get to play. By which that time I am already about to go to bed. If anyone agrees with this retardedness, please say so.

Re: today update will not remove the game by clear system cache
I unfortunately had to swap out my Xbox 360 today for another one. I kept my hard drive and attached it to the new console. Unfortunately by doing so, this has completely screwed up my Final Fantasy XI installation.

So here I am, now re-installing PlayOnline and Final Fantasy XI again. Also, it's no longer 'installed' to the Hard Drive. I'm guessing I'm about to experience the fun of re-installing everything and updating every couple days again.

I'm about ready to burn the game disc and throw my Xbox 360 out my window (oh, and cancel both my FFXI and Xbox Live membership too)!

FIX THIS ALREADY.

This is a very annoying problem, and I agree having to install the game every day is not what I want to do... I've waited as long as 7 hours, drives you mad. And like most ppl say we pay for this, I haven't touched my xbox much after the problem came up, and still paying for my membership. I'm considering stopping my xbox live membership cause I'm not paying to NOT play my game.
And the problem has been there for over a month now, makes me think some players isn't as important as others...

And what is the point that it doesn't remove the game with clear cache, it still doesn't fix the problem.
Am still getting the can't read disk.

you have to reformat your xbox hard drive -> and make sure you close out of playonline correctly that is what causes the error.

I know. But the problem is that the power of this house is unstable, so it's not often I get to log out the right way.
Which means I have to download the game over and over again. Before when this happened I didn't have an issue and could log on like always. So not happy about how they have changed everything and make everything much more difficult >.<

Does anyone know if the new update fixed this problem?  I'd check myself but I don't feel like reinstalling the game again.

Re: today update will not remove the game by clear system cache
Interesting ...my game hangs up from time to time when I shut down ....I shut off my xbox and at next boot up it works great.  It tells me that there might be corruption but it always just works.

I'm pretty sure it says all over the place don't clear the cache since the NXE update as it screws up the install of FFXI.  I've never had to do anything ...I can shut my game xbox off in the middle of playing ...and turn it right back on.  Only issue is I'll lose any changes to my macros.  I've NEVER had to reinstall FFXI because of this.

I'm having the same issue right now... looking for a solution. Also I agree with everyong we are paying for both of these service; Xbox Live and Play Online. One of them needs to find a solution at the least WORK TOGETHER to fix this.

Are you guys even talking about the same thing here?

XAdderalx - you problem is you changed out your xbox.  Ever since the NXE update (the 360 dashboard update) you can't move one HD to the other and have FFXI still work.  Found this out when a friend brought over his HD to play at my house just after the NXE update ....found it out again when I got RRoD and moved HD to backup box ...yay for 5 hour installs!

The rest of you -  Seriously WTF are you talking about?  You can power off your xbox or hit the button to go to the dashboard while playing ffxi or playonline viewer and your game will work just fine the next time you play it.  It will tell you that you shouldn't do that ...and if you made any changes to your macros, they are gone.  Are you guys really having a problem after power off improperly or are you doing something else afterwards ....like....

Are you guys going in and clearing your cache on your xbox?  If so, stop it!  FFXI had a message up for over a month saying don't clear your xbox 360 cache ...it will mess with the FFXI install.  Try just running your game like normal.

If you are having a problem ...I'm sorry and that really sucks.  I know I power down improperly at least once a week and I've NEVER had this issue ....only time I've ever had to reinstall was when changing out the xbox and that was only have NXE update.

Re: today update will not remove the game by clear system cache
umm you are very uninformed....i bought ffxi and had it for 3 days tunred it off like i did all my other games 2 times after that disc unreadable then it took me hours to get it to play again i dind't know about this so i kept cleaning my unscratched disc and reinserting it untill it worked again...so then i turned it off like that again and yet again disc read error...so i got on here and found it corrupts data...you my friend are the only person to ever not get it by shutting it down like that must be nice....then i read on forums ohh clear cache and try again didn't work so i reformatted i have a mu so didn't lose anything but my dles and they can be redownloaded at any time (ohh ppl who complain about losing data don't be a complete durr get a mu) so i did that and now ffxi won't install kept getting installation error right when the fmv starts before installation then i got it to were it would go through the fmv then go black screen and stay black screen after the fmv...ffxi was never meant to be put on xbox360 and the tried to do it quickly and like most other things on xbox unthought out...now they don't want to fix it..my suggestions to you ppl get it on your computer you obviously have one if you are on these forums...and even a crap computer will run it....it barely takes any system requirments...well unless you are stuck in the dark ages of technology and are still running like nt or me.....

Am I understanding that a change in console requires a complete re-install? Is that why I'm getting Error POL-12321 whenever I try to log on to FFXI?

Sadly since the NXE update, yes.  I've had to do it a few times.  You even get to do the 5 hour download again too.  Microsoft will make a product that doesn't suck when they make a vacuum.

Could you please post the procedure here so I know exactly what I need to do to get the game back up and running (hopefully) on my 360 again?
