I have a wired headset that came with my Xbox 360 when i purchased it about 2-3 years ago. And now its starting to show its age. The wire at the base is either not connected properly or something. But for now i'm using tape to keep it up.

Is there anything that I can do to fix it, or should I just go out to buy a new one. If you guys can help me, or if your confused on what my problem is....... I'll help you to help me. Thanks

If you had it 2-3 years your doing far better than I (a 5 year old ,now 6, can tear some stuff up). But out of all the accessories this one is fairly cheap to replace especially used on sites like ebay or amazon. I got a camera/headset pack for $10 on ebay a while back but I guess prices on there aren't set in stone.

i have gone through 4 and they only last for 1-2 months

Well when mine started to break just like yours is doing I took a lighter and burnt the wire into the puck while pushing the wire into the puck and it worked and its still kicking actually.
