Project Natal Doomed to be fatal?
So, I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'm not sure where I stand when it comes to Project Natal. I enjoyed the Wii for a while but that soon faded as the hand motion gimmick sort of became monotonous. What are your thoughts on Natal? Do you think it will catch on or do think it's gonna be popular for a season and fall to the wayside?

I'm not sure we agree on what 'fatal' means.

Well I guess its probably doomed to be fatal considering the law of averages and that its probably getting released in the states.

Yeah as in it may kill itself......... I am not sure if there is a market for this on the 360. I mean do you feel that the majority of gamers want this on the 360 and do you think developers are gonna be able to implement it well? Sorry for the lack of clarity.

The same people that enjoy the wii and have a 360 will enjoy this.

Any reason in particular? To be honest for me if I was a fan of Wii appeal I would just go for a Wii seeing as how games are made with this functionality in mind as opposed to an afterthought on the 360.

Re: Project Natal Doomed to be fatal?
I think "doomed to fail" would have been more accurate a title.

I actually think Natal, if properly implemented could be a huge success. I'd be lying if I said I was overly excited about it, at least at this point, but we likely aren't the target demographic for it. Consider how successful the Wii would be if someone actually released decent games on it. It outsells the competition with the shovelware that is minigames collections.

I think this could be a breakthrough in casual gaming. Combining casual gaming with Microsofts quality control and maybe we might see some games that are inovative instead of piles of garbage games that implement motion controls as a gimmick. I bought a Wii and there have been few innovations in the motion control. They added WiiMotionPlus and the WiiBalance Board. Most games don't even support those features.

If they do it properly, they will make lots of money. MS loves money, and therefore I think they will do it properly (i.e innovation and quality control).

Me too. Gaming is when I get to chill out, I don't want to be hopping around like some autistic kid who just ate a sour candy.

I have limited interest, but I do not want this to be included in my hardcore gaming preferences. The driving games, for example, seem like a chore. I don't want to hold my hands out and hold a pretend wheel. I want to lie back on the couch and play comfortably.

Just because the actors in the pit stop demo video have good posture while playing doesn't necessarily indicate that you'll need to too.

Re: Project Natal Doomed to be fatal?
Ha ha, maybe so, but I stretch right out, lay down, or do just about anything other than sit conventionally. I won't knock it fully till I try it, but I'm still not interested. I sold my Wii based on my dislike for motion controls in gaming more than anything else. Halfway through Twilight Princess I contemplated getting the Gamecube version just so I could use the controller.

Re: Project Natal Doomed to be fatal?
right but what if they augment controller use with motion controls. lets say reaching down to shift gears or reaching up to toss a grenade. or perhaps dodging to the right or left by leaning (you know, like some people do anyway when they play games!)

Sure, they can do whatever they like, but my interest is still limited. I'm not arguing that it's broken tech, I'm saying I, as a single individual, do not have interest in moving around much at all when I sit back and relax to play games.

Re: Project Natal Doomed to be fatal?
yeah im saying they could make it intuitive and not make you move too much (ie jumping around) and really lean on how people already play games. its really about how much they think it through. they could make it, for instance if you lean slightly to either side, you can peer around corners for faux 3d. something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw ... it might even just be really subtle but it would make it more immersive..

If M$ want to send me a free one then go ahead, I ain't spending a penny on that. If i wanted to play games with my body I might as well go outside.

Re: Project Natal Doomed to be fatal?

They can have my controller when they pry it from my cold dead hands.  If it becomes an add on, then fine.  However, if the next GOW or COD or any big name game is going to be motion technology only, they are going to lose a lot of xbox players imo.  Not too keen myself on playing the air guitar for the next GH or throwing a big hit in NHL and having to replace the gyproc in my wall.

In my opinion Natal will suffer the same fate as the vision camera.
