Go Buy Dead Space (If You Haven't Already)
For $20 this game is simply unbelievable. I would've easily paid $60 for this masterpiece.

This is one of the most atmospheric games out there. The story is similar to movies like Alien and Event Horizon and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The graphics while not the best are still pleasing to the eye. The music really adds a whole new level of intensity and fear to the game, specially with the ship creaking and blowing apart, creatures screaming and crawling around, etc. The voice acting for the most part is decent. You can also buy/upgrade your weapons and armor which adds some depth to the game as well as re-playability. A feature I really liked is the blue line which helps you navigate around, it's a welcomed addition. Another nice thing is there are a ton of save points so even when you die (and you'll die a lot) you never get too frustrated with having to restart far back again.

The only issues I had with this game is the hero (Isaac Clarke) is your average helmet wearing mute. You never really feel for him like you should considering his life is always in danger. The script is pretty rough, some of the lines these characters say make me cringe. Lastly, the melee combat (which I personally feel is the biggest fault with the game) is slow and for the most part ineffective. Creatures will get in your face and if your out of ammo your basically screwed.

It took me a little under 10 hours on my first play-through on medium difficulty, will I play-through again? Hell yes! When you beat the game you can then go back in (on the same difficulty, if you switch you have to start over from scratch) and your stats, weapons, and gear carry with you including some added money and nodes (nodes are the things you use to upgrade weapons and armor). Once beating the game you also unlock Impossible difficulty and if you're anything like me you'll want to tackle the toughest mode.

Seriously, if you haven't picked this up already just go do it. Don't question it, it will be one of the best $20 games you ever purchase!

Re: Go Buy Dead Space (If You Haven't Already)
A few things I forgot to mention (just literally a few minutes ago beat the game so I'm still pretty hyped).

Firstly, the weapons. The weapons all sound great and are a lot of fun to use. However you'll most likely end up only using the Plasma Cutter (starting weapon) as it's always reliable and cheap on ammo. I maxed out my Pulse Rifle and still ended up using my Plasma Cutter the most.

Secondly, the game is repetitive in that you're constantly doing similar missions which require fixing this, finding that, etc. and backtracking. I didn't notice it much but many others have pointed it out so it's worth mentioning.

Anyways, I think I covered it all. Go buy this game!

Yeah this game is amazing to say the least. I only have three more achievements to go before I get them all. I just got sidetracked by a game called Borderlands lol.

The more I play Modern Warfare 2 the worse I do, so the less I play the game the better I will do, right?

Your name kinda gave that away... Unless it's a coincidence?

$20 for Dead Space is a friggin steal.

Also, that's a pretty fair and accurate assessment of the game you gave in your review.

Thanks, I tried to make sure I listed both the positives and negatives. I'm going on my 2nd play-through now!

Melee is supposed to be ineffective. The necromorphs outclass you physically and also have sharp *** spikes and claws and whatnot. Thats why the only way you can have a chance at using melee on most necromorphs is through stasis. Also the game was literally not repetitive at all until the very last mission for me.
And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

I'm not done playing the game yet but I agree with the reviews!  I borrowed this game from a friend and already want to go buy it for myself when I return it to my friend.  Can't wait for another play through!

I believe the Melee is supposed to be inefective tbh, as well as there being minmal ammo around. It's meant to make the game more intense, making stading still and fighting up close a last resort. I cant count the times i've been stuck in a corner with less than a clip of a maxed out Plasma Cutter, praying for some divine intervention.

I understand melee in this game is supposed to be weak but if hitting an enemy is almost impossible then what was the point? I'd understand it more if you could hit enemies more accurately but not do much damage, like a push or a kick that shoves the enemy off you for a second, etc.

You can push enemies away when you swing your gun around. And the point is, you can use melee in a pinch if you also use stasis, but without stasis you're pretty much ***.

I guess that is why, I rarely used stasis on medium difficulty.

Just wait till you get to impossible difficulty!  Pizza [pi]  Seperate the men from the boys in that mode there with meleeing everything dang thing you see because your so low on ammo.

I was really skeptic about buying this game at first. But when I saw for $20 bucks I couldn't help but buy it. Well worth the 20 or 60 bucks. I'm really bummed it took me until now to buy it.

Re: Go Buy Dead Space (If You Haven't Already)
I bought it based just on the game description on the package (I like science fiction). At the time, I hadn't heard anything about the game, good or bad.  Got it home, started it up -- Wow!  One of the unexpected, best surprises of the game year for me!  Dead Space is now in my top 5 favorite video games.  Definitely worth full price, a real bargain at ANY of the reduced prices.

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.
