Would you recommend this to someone who is a fan of Oblivion, and also enjoyed KotOR and Mass Effect?
Just wondering... this is just one of those titles that I didn't know anything about until my friend was like "Hey have you seen this game?" :P Watching videos and reading reviews, it looks like an awesome experience, so I thought I'd ask the players. I love Oblivion, which the look of this game remind me of, though the combat in it eventually feels kinda repeditive. KotOR was a lot of fun, and Mass Effect as well... do you think I would like this game?

I love both Oblivion AND Dragon Age, however, I can't comment on KotOR or ME. I would say rent it and try it, then buy it new to get the special items if you like it enough.

I would recommend on the Kotor/ME note but not Oblivion.  Oblivion is a different beast altogether.  Bioware vs. Bethesda difference you know.

Yeah youll like this game alright. I have played all of the games you mentioned and this game is right up your alley. Just check out the strat guide and you'll see how much detail there is in this game. Flipping through the guide gave me Oblivion flashbacks lol. If you like feeling that there is an overwhelming amount of detail and stuff to do this is the game for you.

I own and have played all of those titles and I love DragonAge so far.  When it comes down to it, it's a RPG created by BioWare and they are the master story tellers of the RPG genre.  But if still have doubts, rent it for a few days to see for yourself.

Yeah, thanks everyone. I think I'm going to wait on it, give it some thought perhaps. I am buying 2 other *amazing* titles in the next two weeks, ones I'm sure will consume my time like crazy, so going ahead and getting this right now would be a bit of a waste for me.

Just gotta make myself wait......... it's not always easy. :P

Ha! I don't mind, I'm actually glad to see it's going to good use.

I read something fairly disturbing about it actually though, it's kind of put me off from buying it.

Re: Would you recommend this to someone who is a fan of Oblivion, and also enjoyed KotOR and Mass Effect?
Honestly, I can't say much as I don't have Dragon Age.

But in terms of comparing...

BioWare as of late seems to be amazing with Story Telling, and Plots in their games...but tend to be short games.

While Bethesda has pretty all right story telling, but longer than hell gameplay, IF you decide to finish EVERYTHING. Except Fallout 3, unless you do consider each DLC pack as a whole, and not just Fallout 3 Classic.

One thing both have, is amazing gameplay elements and sheer enjoyment.

So all in all, I'd probably recommend Dragon Age if you want a good story, but it's probably very short. I plan on getting it, much later, like around Christmas.

If you liked Oblivion, this isn't the same.  This is more like KOTR. Oblivon was more free form.  Dragon Age isn't.

Talking to people, quest styles are somewhat similar to oblivion though.

I like all those games (including Too Human) and I love this game.  The story is deep and rich, there is so much customization with armors and weapons, and the party interactions really make this game shine.  Some of the graphics are not that great, but everything else makes me forget about how most trees look.

Re: RE: Re: Would you recommend this to someone who is a fan of Oblivion, and also enjoyed KotOR and Mass Effect?
If anyone gets hung up on the graphics, you are missing the bigger picture.  BioWare has a monopoly on games with amazing stories.  The character development, setting, everything...you feel like you are the character.  You grow fond of the other characters and when one of them dies/leaves, you feel legitimate sorrow.  Most games can't hold a flame to that kind of engrossment.  So, to get caught up on graphics is just dumb, you're missing something big.

And if graphics are that much of an issue (which the game isn't that bad with graphics) just go to the PC version.  The console versions are here for people, like myself, who don't own a supercomputer or can't afford to keep upgrading it every 2-3 years just to play games.  Consoles for me all the way.

Do not compare this to Oblivion, it will not live up to that.

Oblivion is far more expansive, with far to many choice for game play to even be compared to a Bioware game. For the most part Bioware creates more linear games, to warrant any comparison.
That said, this is a great game and is worth the look see. Basicly, if you like Fantasy RPGs you'll love this one. Just do not go into it looking for a Bethesda masterpiece, you will be disappointed.

I know right? I think that guy has his expectations set to high, you know the old saying "have your expectations low, and you will always be surprised" that works most of the time, LOL

Oblivion is an open world, roam anywhere, sandbox game. Dragon Age is a compartmentalized, more linear rpg, with more in common with Fable 2 than Oblivion style gameplay.

Since you're of fan of those it's a pretty fair bet you'll like this. Oblivion for the generic similarity in setting, and the others for a similarity in style of play.

Truly horrid camera angles, and controls. Felt sluggish, like it was made in 10 minutes using XNA or something. Combat was...boring, and about as rewarding as watching paint dry. Tried the demo, wasn't impressed. Tried it at my friend's house when the retail came out, same issues. It had potential, but sadly it was probably the biggest video game flop since Superman 64, or ET the game.

I can honestly say you have no clue on RPG games if that is your thought...this game is addictive and has a great story...while it is a TON of talking and story base the decission you make are HUGE in this game...you can start one way and end up with something total different in the end...you gain frineds you losse friends you make some greeedy decissions here and there..all in all to the OP....BUY THIS GAME it is great, I would say I have spent more time on this then ME and I loved it...I would say it has the same feel as oblivion except it is clearer where you need to go. The expantion part for this game will be massive..all in all while I will be spending all my time in MW2 when it hits this is a great change of pace for this week I had waiting...5-7 days to rent it and spend a good 4-8hr a day on it will get you through to the end and allow for some fun side quests thrown in for your own curiosity. I am really surprised that any one that likes the games you mentions has anything bad to say about this...Of course there will always be haters that bring up stupid stuff...graphics(looks great to me..no award winner but nice enough) camera views..(controlled by player)...long load times...etc but in the end this is a fun and great game.

I would say YES, YES, YES on all accounts.  I've loved all three of those games (ME, KOTOR, and Oblivion).  To me it's like KOTOR set in the world of Oblivion and with the ME storytelling.

Playing: DA:O, AC2, Batman:AA, Crackdown
Waiting for: ME2, Just Cause 2
