My thoughts on Dragon Age: Orgins (so far)
pros

+ Great Story
+ Great Gameplay
+Deep and rewarding RPG
+Not hard to use the interface

cons

- Graphics are crap!!

When A great company like Bioware puts out a game you expect the best. It is a big let down to see the graphics in this game. They really dropped the ball. Just look at Mass Effect and how beautiful that game is.
So this game could have been amazing but unless the story pulls me in and never lets go then im going to say its just a great game.

So far its    a    8/10

Graphics looked pretty good based on the Xbox 360 videos I saw on youtube. Maybe you're just to picky.

no not at all!!!   I love Dragon Age Orgins!!!  i guess i should stop complaining about the graphics because the story is wonderful and amazing.  I guess the more i play the more i get used to the graphics. I cant get over how bad the trees look though. It was so funny at the start of the game you fight these rats and after the battle you are dripping withso much blood. Its great!!  one other notes The Grey Wardens are bad quantum singularity!!!

Yes, the graphics are extremely average, but everything else is fly.  Reminds me A LOT of KotOR.

My best friend is Haywood Jablome, I do declare. However, Mike Oxawopah is still cool, due to his Russian heritage.

Best game yet. 10/10
Graphics are a small part of a game, and they are pretty good on my 60" 1080p set.
Everything else is superb. The combat is amazing and hopefully leads the genre (and encourages publishers/developers to create more) and the ability to script players actions/behaviors is amazing. Inventory management is smart; I like the ability to mark something as junk, and autosell all junk items at the next shop. Story is intriguing and there is nothing about this game that makes it anything less than a must buy.

Graphics aren't the best but I still think they look pretty good. Ostagar looked beautiful other than the environment outside of where you can actually walk.
I'm sure many people will complain about the graphics compared to Mass Effect but Dragon Age is a much bigger game. I love the fact that you can actually stop and talk to your party members whenever you want unlike Mass Effect.

Re: My thoughts on Dragon Age: Orgins (so far)
The graphics aren't the greatest(at least when compared to other RPG titles) but considering the size and scope of this game, it matters little to me. Don't get me wrong though, there is times where they DO shine though. So it's not terribad, just not what you might expect. That aside - I'm tired of these developers and people obsessing so much over graphics that you end up with all around actually bland games when you think about it.. Oblivion and Mass Effect are both like this. Oblivion had a LOT of side quests but I found many to be a unenjoyable and exploration was basically hitting the same dungeon five hundred times over. While Mass Effect had a brief story, repetitive side exploring/tasks. Though by all means, a great story it was.

I've thus far found it to be engrossing more so than any RPG I've played in this generation. To me that means a lot, and I am glad I held off purchasing MW2 next Tuesday to get this. It's been a LONG LONG time since I had a truly epic RPG, and this is shaping up to be just that.

In my personal opinion it deserves a 9/10 regardless of graphics. Mass Effect had AMAZING graphics and the frames suffered majorly for it. Not to mention everything else was shallow EXCEPT for the storyline which as indeed fantastic. Yet everyone just accepted it for almost that reason alone - the story. Here we are with a game that has an amazing story, amazing combat, tons of customization, hundreds of hours of playtime, and we're all not giving it the proper nod because it's not a stuttering graphics ***. What a joke people.

If you like RPGs, get this. JRPG and Western lovers alike go out and get it.

I'm loving it so far, as I knew I would. I was surprised my PC can do max graphics + AA with no hiccups at all, especially since I haven't upgraded anything since 2007. The graphics aren't as bad as everyone makes it out to be as well. Combat is a BLAST because tactics mean something! Story, environments, sidequests, everything is great. I only wish I had time to read The Calling before I started.

Re: My thoughts on Dragon Age: Orgins (so far)

I was not looking forward to DAO, in fact, I wasn't even planning to buy it... but I'm bored and have about $5k sitting around doing nothing so I said 'what the hell'.

Still early in the game, just got out of the tutorial area, and I've noticed the weak graphics... but it is not weak overall. I can't believe I'm defending DAO - I'm skipping through every voice acted cutscene like a madman - but, I can't but help wonder why people are complaining so much about the graphics. Sure, alot of world graphics can look weak, but the graphics on characters look great - for instance, the graphics on an object in the enviroment can look like a 256x256 texture, but a texture on your characters armor is 2046x2046.

If a game is fun, graphics can be mediocre. I'm still not convinced DAO is fun, I absolutely hate dialog tree gameplay, but to dismiss it because graphics is silly.

Re: My thoughts on Dragon Age: Orgins (so far)
I stopped reading after I did read about 1/4 of the replies, so I apologize if this has already been answered, but what I was most concerned about regarding the game is whether or not it would just be a fantasy set Mass Effect...? Someone here said it reminded them of a lot of KOTOR, which would seem to confirm my thoughts on what the game would be like, hence me just wanting more info regarding that nature of things.

I don't care about this thing, so why should you?

In all likelihood I'm getting this game when I go home for Thanksgiving break, but out of curiosity for those who own the game...given the weaker graphics, how is the framerate in this game?

How does "Dragon Age: Origins" compare to a game like "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion"?

Oblivion in my opinion wasn't that good to begin with. I am early into this game and thus far I enjoy it a great deal more.

Re: My thoughts on Dragon Age: Orgins (so far)
I don't get why people hate on the graphics.  It's been in development for ages, even before Mass Effect was from what I have read not to mention they had to compress everything on a dvd.  It doesn't use the unreal engine either.  It's got solid graphics, not mind blowing but it has a consistent framerate and good animations.  So there is nothing that takes away from the gameplay.

Compeletly different beast.  They are just alike in the sense that it's in a fantasy world but the gameplay is different.  You have squad tactics in this game.  I guess you could set up the a.i. tactics and just play it worrying about your character and it could be more like Oblivion, but imo that would take the fun of micromanagement out.

I love it so far. I picked the Mage class and origin. I love being able to turn unsuspecting foes into bombs. More RPGs need that ability. I have become a Grey Warden and am meandering about, recruiting party members. So far, Morrigan, Sten, and Allistair are my favorites.
