Who Wants To Play As A Big Daddy?
Am I the only one that really does not want to play as a Big Daddy in Bioshock 2?

I mean, I loved facing off with these mysterious creatures in the first game, but by playing as one, you don't fear them as much and the mystery behind them is gone.

It's almost the equivalant of controlling a Hunter in the Halo series and playing a sequel through like that.  It's just a stupid idea and they essentially eliminated any fear, intrigue and overall coolness of one of the most innovative bad guys created in videogame history.

I mean, does anybody else feel the same way or am I just crazy?

Yeah, you're right, and I do feel the same way a little bit.  It doesn't make me any less excited to play the game but still...  I watched a video for Bioshock 2 introducing the Big Sister...  And the dev guy talking says something like

'So in Bioshock 2, you'll play as the first big daddy.  You're special and can wield the drill AND plasmids...'

lol...now THAT is extremely overpowered by itself...not to mention being a big daddy, big daddy armor...  He goes on to say:

'...now you may be thinking that since you're a big daddy now, that all the enemies you encounter will be a piece of cake, well that's where we introduce some new enemies....like the Big Sister...'

He's explaining this as he takes us through the opening of the game where a big sister slices up a huge window and floods the room you're in.  Basically though he makes it sound like the Big Sister is the ONLY new enemy that will be able to stand up to you, which is kind of disappointing.  Hopefully my thinking is wrong there...hehe

Well, I think that it will make a change in the storyline. It should be good to try somthing diffrent.

I personally think this is a pretty good twist from the first game.

It is the story of how the FIRST Big Daddy came about and was made.   Also, you already got to play as a Big Daddy in the last part of Bioshock 1.   I really can't wait to get my hands on Bioshock 2, because not only will it be a nice twist on the old equation for the game, it will allow you to do things that weren't in the first game... such as adventuring outside into the actual ocean floor (which has been confirmed to be in the game).

I also like the idea that the story will 'humanize' the Big Daddies somewhat... you get to learn and realise that they aren't just these giant, clambering, tanks of monsters / robots... they are actually PEOPLE inside the suits.

It will really add something to the story... maybe even make you feel a little sad for killing so many of them in the first game ;)

I understand what you are getting at with your objections, but I feel that it really does help flesh out the story, and help avoid making the game feel like just more of the same-ole same-ole.
I'll miss Frank
