Dear Microsoft,
I have just submitted the 5th repair request for my xbox 360 console in the last 2-3 years and, to be quite straight forward, I am quite sick of sending back my xbox 360 for replacement. I am not a hardcore gamer. I do not tweak my system. I keep it in a ventilated, dry place. All in all, I am quite the nurturing owner. But, for some reason, I have the misfortune of receiving a lemon every single time I get a replacement. Counting so far I have encountered 4 RRoDs and 1 disc drive failure... I commend you, Microsoft, for providing a replacement free of charge every time a customer's system craps out. I truly do. But, when your system sports a record like this, there would be no other choice for you to do what you do.
I am tired... I have a wife, a son, a job, duties, responsibilities, and more that allow me to play maybe once every week or two. But, when that day does come and I can save a few minutes for myself... there is little better than sitting down with my 360 for some quality time together. Take today. I eagerly awaited the release of Dragon Age for months and finally was able to purchase it this morning. Jubilation! After a long day, after the wife and child went to bed, I was able to finally sit and play my new game. Turned on XBOX? Check. Adult beverage in hand? Check. Read manual? Check. Disc in Drive? Check. Disc tray closed and... disc does not play. In fact, my system just sat there acting like I just inserted nothing into the drive. I reopened the drive thinking "heh, stupid forgot to put the disc in". But lo and behold, there it was sitting in the tray. Major bummer. Major. Rebooted and retried again and again. No go. I sighed, and took the low-blow the way I have learned to. I sipped my beverage in silence while staring at my own personal epic fail. The only thing left to do was to slowly walk upstairs and, while cursing to myself, enter in a new repair order.
I don't write this expecting free stuff or special recognition. I write simply hoping that someone reads this and passes it along to someone along the line who might just care to know that someone out here was very disappointed in their company. I have played XBOX consoles since the 1st day the first console came out and have trusted Microsoft to deliver quality. I have purchased accessories, games, add-ons, DLC, and the ilk. But lately I am beginning to wonder about the company and it's product(s). What is this they are trying to push on me? Instead of pressing the power button at the end of a long day and simultaneously breathing a sigh of relief, I push the power button and cringe like someone playing Russian Roulette, knowing that it's only a matter of time before it's my turn (again). And the unavoidable wait for the replacement unit, wondering how long THIS one will last.
I don't know why I write this. I will probably wish that I didn't in the morning. But for now I am just utterly let down. Sure, I know you are thinking "Its just a stupid game" and you are right! It is. Which makes this post so much more ludicrous. But I think of a quote that I've heard many people say... "It's the small things in life...". I've played games since I was 4. I am now 31. Playing games have become a part of me in some weird sentimental way that only a paid professional could help me understand. Each session fills me with the little nostalgia and excitement of being a kid again. "But, Its just a game?"... Exactly.
Sony PSIII sure isn't my cup of tea... but a cup of tea is better than mud in the eye.
