Tactical RPG's
Overall I liked the demo well enough despite it's flaws and will probably be picking this one up when it comes out but the main reason for buying it would simply be because it is the only T/S RPG game for the 360. Am I wrong in assuming this, are there other games that i'm overlooking??

Re: Tactical RPG's
There are actually quite a few available in Japan, but I doubt many of them will ever get released outside. Besides this game, the only other one on the horizon is Spectral Force 3. Both of these games were released about a year ago in Japan and I guess if they sell well in the US you might see more, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen.

Have you considered picking up X-Com for your PC? It's one of the best Strategy Turn Based games ever, and if you have a PC that can even turn on, you can play it, since the game came out in... uh.. '93? But anyways, don't mind me, I'm just an old school fan of X-Com.

Re: Tactical RPG's
Actually, I think you can only get it on download now, or on CD if you hit Ebay or the likes. Its probably one of the best strategy tactical games that ever came out, and other than a few annoying things, like having to reequip your team at the start of each mission, but it was really fun. One of the best games of all time.

But in the meantime, you could always look at some other tactical rpgs, like FFTA on the DS. Suprisingly, a lot of strategy games are on handhelds. Wonder why. Oh well. Yes, look up X-com. You should be able to find an emulated version of it since it pretty much qualifies as Abandonware now.

Re: Tactical RPG's
I don't like tactical RPG's.  I like WRPG's and JRPG's.  I like real time strategy games.  I do not like tactical RPG's.  I tried Final Fantasy Tactics but decided that the game was so horrible that I couldn't finish it. I made the mistake of buying a couple of other "RPG's" that turned out to be tactical RPG's in the past also.  I'll never make that mistake again, they were just as bad as the Final Fantasy Tactics game.

If these people put out a regular RPG (Japan or western) then I would buy it.

I know this is just bringing this back from the dead, but I just bought the game today. I'm a huge fan of FFT, and played that game to death. When I got the demo for this; the first thing I thought of was, "Wow, this game is like a WWII version of FFT, and it has better graphics than FFT." I know there are quite a few problems with this game that many people have stated, but still it's not bad. It's not FFT, but it's not bad at all.

Some other titles to consider.

On the PC

The Jagged Alliance series  ( On Steam )
Fallout 1-2

PS3

Valkyria Chronicles

Can anyone think of any other current titles?

ZOIDS on the 360 if it hasn't been mentioned.  There are too many to list on the DS.  I have at least 6 or 7 on the DS.

Re: Tactical RPG's
X-Com was mentioned, I bought the whole set of 5 X-Com games for $5 on steam. Looks like it's $15 now. Just ufo defense is $5, and they are right, it is an awesome game.

Other ones on PC, Heroes of Might and Magic 1 - 5. Fallout. Dominions. All great.

Re: Tactical RPG's
There is also spectral force 3 which is like a final fantasy tactics type of SRPG i enjoy both this game and spectral force about the same as they are 2 completly different types of srpg storylines this game is like ww2 on an acid trip lol, and spectral force is a lot like final fantasy tactics meets fire emblem.

i recommend both to any SRPG fan that being said SRPG's are deffinatly the types of games that take a certain type of gamer to enjoy them. I would said only about 2-5 gamers out of every 10 would enjoy these types of games seeing as you have to actualy think alittle bit lol. for example i had one of my close friends get operation darkness the day i got it and he couldnt even beat the 1st mission so he gave up and returned it.

sry bout the rambling anyway point being you like srpg's then get both games :)

Re: Tactical RPG's
funny enough the best SRPG that ive played on the 360 is Shining Force 2 from the Genesis collection, 20 year old game but it still does it right.  only on mission 3 now  but im liking operation darkness better then the reviews had me think i would.
