im sure there is still a good dedicated community, i know there's a site called Pet Food Alpha where they host a podcast about Final Fantasy 11, I was thinking about coming back but it has been a long time since i jumped on FFXI. Being since I've been playing World of Warcraft a lot lately. Also you pay a month by credit card.

FFXI is really slow when you first start out and a little dull with some boring LV grinding. But about lv 10 or so you can start to Party with other people witch makes the game much more fun and Socialable. Also very thrilling quests when you get higher up. If you stick to it it will be very Enjoyable.

Agree totally....

I have just been playing about a week so far and like the above says it was a bit dull to start with whilst I tried to get used to all the menu systems and lvl up.

Now Im getting into parties and stuff its great fun....helps I have a couple of old mates from other games that have taken me on board aswell though.

Go get World of Warcraft instead. Better game, better community, won't waste eons of time leveling subjobs and skilling up weapons/ skills/etc.

FF is a waste.

Drive by poster.
I've been playing FFXI since NA release and done most end game events and camped every NM out there. I can say the popularity has dropped, buy you can say this is true for even WoW and older MMOs. FFXI still has plenty of players on most servers. I've level my Sam to 38 without any problems finding parties. There's alot of players still leveling and having fun. I believe the hard core players are starting to drop and move on from FFXI. But the players that want to have fun, enjoy their experience are still there.

Now, I just started playing WoW about 4 months ago. I heard about the stories of people waiting to log on, quest taking long to complete because of shear numbers trying to complete the same thing. But I'm flying through my mage class. I'm already a 73 mage, having no issues with gear, money or questing. But I can tell you, the number of players on my server has dropped. Thunder Bluff is empty, UC at most have 20 peeps, Orgimmiar has the most of around 50~100. The outlands have few players, and the WotLK zones are empty.  I can complete PvP quest with no problems or others trying to kill me. In fact, I've been only killed once by another player my entire game play.

Because I started WoW, it gave me a better appreciation for FFXI, and I'm ready to level another job and do more events with my New LS.

Currently playing: Halo Wars, RE5, FFxi
FFXI jobs: All 75 - Brd, Rdm, Whm, Thf, Pld Sch

Not quite. I started FFXI on the NA release. Completed almost all endgame content except the ridiculously stupid once a week HNM king spawns to finish my black belt. FFXI is,looking back, a waste of time. sure there are some good folks who play, but the ridiculous amount of time it takes to do anything( skilling a weapon, leveling a job/subjob, farming, questing, anything) is just unreal. Not to mention going after something like a dynamis run to have some *** LS jump in the zone just to *** you over, or losing claim on sky/ ground/ any other NM to a team of RMT using claim bots, or any of the other dozen issues FF has that have never been addressed.... yeah, enjoy throwing your time/ money down a toilet.

Skilling up weapons, leveling jobs, and farming have all been updated in many ways. Weapons skill up faster then they did before, level sync has made leveling up a snap, and farming has never really taken that long imo.

All in all what you're saying is just your opinion, just like me saying that I like FF and would never play WoW.

I myself like that things take time to do, and are not just handed to you. I like having to work for what you want.

But to get back on topic...
I would say buy the game(it's only about 20$ now) and try it out. You get a free month of play for you to choose if you like the game or not, and if you don't like it then simply put, quit.

They should be up and running. Severs may be busy. Keep trying. What world are planning to go on? If unsure go on Serapth and when selecting nation, choose Serpath

Thanks for replying so fast, I didn't think anyone looked on this forum anymore. I tried about 9 times last night, but I'll try again later today. I'll be sure to send you a friend request. Maybe you could walk me through this game because the only other Final Fantasy I played before was Crisis Core for the PSP.

The registration servers are usually very busy on a normal day, it can take a while to get through, just be patient. It took my mate a while to get his registered.

Yeah sure I can help, the game is full of unhelpful players you if you can find someone who can help add em to XBL and in game FL. Set yourself up on Serapth server and I can help out
