12+2 Month Gold Offer 'Bait and Refuse'?
With very little of intrest left in LiveLand, I let my Gold expire. After a few weeks, I dredged up a couple of 1 Month cards from box repairs and 'cashed' them in. Later, after pre-ordering MW2, I thought it might be fun for awhile getting fraged and cussed-out by 9 year-olds online. So, when I saw a offer for 12+2 offer on the guide, I coughed up a sizeable amount of my allowance for the card. I redeemed that card through the XBL Guide, through the 12+2 panel, and thought all was well. When my e-mail confirmation came, it said 'Thank you for the 12 Month extention'. Waaaaaaaaaat....... Now, 2 months of credit may not be much, but a offer was made-I accepted-and offer was not fulfiled. Maybe I am still crabby from when I sent in my wireless wheel for a force-feedback motor/fire hazzard retrofix. It will be what, three years this coming December with no wheel, no reimbursement, no explantion, no 'sorry, Fart, we screwed up' no matter how many times I call. One Hundred Fourty Nine Dollars, plus tax, dissapeared into Billy's thin air............. As I have low confidence in resolution, I am just throwing this out there...................

Have you actually checked your membership level to see when it expires?

It's possible they could have just sent a generic 12 month email out.

Offer is only for users who pay with a credit/debit card. Pre-paid codes will not give the promotion.

That way its set to auto renew and its a huge pain to cancel/maybe you forget to cancel and microsoft can "force" you to resubscribe getting them more money...although i have been silver for a while if they have changed the website so that you can cancel from online then disregard that statement.

Yes, I checked right away. It should have said 'expires on January XX, 2011', But it shows 'November XX, 2010'

I somehow get that part, for credit card only.......... Having everybody on auto-renewal has alot of more profit in it. I still contend it was a 'Bait', the redeem code option should have NOT been available. A disclaimer saying "for credit renewal only" should have been shown.

Re: 12+2 Month Gold Offer 'Bait and Refuse'?
I've noticed they've also changed the prepaid cards.

It used to be 12+1 months, and now only 12 month cards are available. Obviously with this 12+2 offer and the discontinuation of the 12+1 cards, they are trying to coax more people into the credit card/auto-renew option.

Either way, even without the 12+1, the prepaid cards usually go on sale at Toys R Us and other retailers, about twice a year, such that you could get a 12 month card for $50 (Can) as opposed to the usual $60. This would work out to the same as taking advantage of the 12+2 offer, though doesn't help anyone in need of a renewal prior to finding the cards on sale.

Only if you want to wait for it to ship to you, but they do have the 12 month plus 1 bonus month prepaid codes available on amazon for $49.99.

From Microsoft's perspective though that's irrelevant, or at least not much of a factor.

If people are coaxed into entering a card whereas previously they only used prepaid cards, then they are now able to also use that entered credit card to buy MS points as well. People that use only pre-paid cards tend to manage their spending more than the one-click pre-authorized shopper. Microsoft is hoping (or knows) that if more people have their card on the system where it's easier for them to spend, that they'll spend more.

Additionally, turning off the auto-renewal is awkward and involves calling Microsoft, which some people might not be bothered to do or will forget to do, since being forced to call support seems like a hassle compared to doing things ourselves online like we've become more accustomed to.

Coax? By that, do you mean MS is luring you to use a credit card? interesting...

You can now cancel auto renewal on the website so you do not need to call them if you do not want to.

What about the people who "want" to renew every year without interuption of service and don't want to cancel? From our point of view this is a reward. I'll have to look into the details of it.

"Coax" as in they eliminated the benefit to buying prepaid cards (for the same price you got 13 months via card and only 12 months via online purchase) and added an even better benefit (+2 months) to the online purchase, and made it an apparently limited offer.

You still can't, at least not through Xbox.com. I've tried a few times (including just now to make sure). You also cannot remove a card without giving another one.

There's nothing wrong with preferring the online purchase or auto-renew, but that doesn't mean it's beneficial for everyone.

Is the 12+2 promo still going on?
Will Cleveland ever win a championship? Cavs '07 0-4 NBA Finals, Tribe '07 3-4 in ALCS, Browns '07 10-6 missed the playoffs.

You got a point. But it was just a promo. And promos do end like the credit card promo will also end someday

Correct, however, what you are saying is circular. The pre-paid cards where not beneficial for everyone either, I liked the convenience of using a credit card. Just pointing out that this isn't an all-around bad deal others want everyone to think. One person can see it as Microsoft trying to get them to use a credit card and taking away from them the free month they where getting. While people like me see it as good promotion.

Thanks, it seems on one page it doesn't show up as a link, and on another it does.

Aside from it being amusing it takes you through three "are you sure?" pages, people should note that if you turn off auto-renewal and then prolong your subscription using a prepaid card, auto-renewal will be turned back on again.
