Tests of valor on Mentor
Im on my mentor run right now and just reached the first test of valor on chapter 3.  is it worth going through them on mentor or master ninja to get the items or should i just pass on the headache?  Any thoughts?

It's worth trying them at the very least as the rewards certainly make the game more bearable and some of them are surprisingly easy on both Mentor and Master. ToV 1 isn't one of the easier ones though!

ToV 1 is very challenging.  I've only tried it a few times but died rather quickly.  Any tips?

I pretty much use the method I've quoted below but prefer the Lunar for killing the Mages, mainly because I'm better at nailing the Izuna Drop with it than the Claws, good luck man! Yes [Y]

The way to do this ToV is to first dismember all the ninja's (with IS, wind ninpo or any other way) and leave them alone after that (they will all cuddle up in the centre). Then circle the outer perimeter and take out the mages one by one. I use the claws for this (izuna) but they have to be at Lv2.
When the mages are gone, pick one from the centre. kill him and that will spawn a fresh one; kill him and so on untill no more spawn and then take out the rest of what's left in the centre.

This is the same technique I use as well. I learned it from watching bigalski's video. When I first endured this challenge I would chain ET's and use quite a good bit of health. After seeing that delimbing each type of ninja would cause me to battle the type I wanted, It made it that much easier. On another note, Use the camera to your advantage by not watching the center too much. It makes the majes come less as hard at you and you are able to defeat them more easily. I would suggest defeating them first after delimbing the IS ninjas and regular white ninjas. Rotate on the outside of the arena as well.

Never argue with an Idiot. He'll only bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Hi Mkadt, yeah that method seems to be the tried and trusted way to go about ToV 1 for a lot of people, I learned it from a vid of JAH's though of course he was using his trusty Scythe!

Maybe worth to mention; I tried this one with the claws, Lunar and Scythe and my trusty Scythe gave me the most karma (a little more than the Lunar).

Once I jumped in the air and missed, I landed on the floor and fell off..

I'm useless with it in that ToV .. I'm convinced Ryu moves slower for me with that bloody hefty Scythe on his back. Wink [;)] I'll have to practice more with it.

Re: RE: Re: Tests of valor on Mentor

just an observation, but I was watching a video of someone's run through on the ToV1 on MN, and it appears (at least to me) that the enemies' attacks are worse when I play through it on Mentor than what appeared to be on the MN run.  They just seem so relentless against me on mentor, but the enemies did not seem to be as viscous in the MN video.

Like I said, just an observation.

Lol, yeah my Ryu is used to the weight by now, or at least he should be.
And I kinda suck with the Lunar Izuna, although I have less problems with the mages than with the ninja's (and waterdemons). But I still miss too much if I compare it to the claws' Izuna. That's what I gotta practice.
