NETFLIX - sometimes choppy, sometimes not - 4 bars - hmmmmmm
Ok, I looked for some recent posts concerning this issue and really didn't find what I was looking for. So, I'm trying to figure out if this issue is something that can be resolved or if it's just what it is and I either need to deal with it or get rid of netflix. Sometimes the movie playback is sort of choppy. Does not make a difference if it's an HD feed or SD feed. Doesn't seem to matter what time of day either. I have my box on static IP and it's also DMZ'd. I really don't have any XBL issues other than this. when it says "determining video quality" I get 4 bars every single time. my internet connection is cable at 12/5mbit and my box is wired to the router and is usually the only device using it. So, any ideas? Is this just the way it is with netflix or did I miss something? I can stream hulu and things like that on my pc and have never had an issue before. I've got a 52" LCD and I'm connected via component if that has any weight on the situation. Thanks in advance!

My advice - dump'em and save your money . I did this past weekend due to this very problem and I couldn't be any happier (used the saved duckies to buy a couple of new books as a matter of fact.....)

In short my experience with Netflix and their Instant watch went  thusly.....For the first couple of months of my subscription everything was great and I was as happy as a clam. My viewing load was fairly light in that I might watch a couple of films a week. Then I started noticing the ol' song and dance start - Queue an Instant View film - movie starts with a full four bar test and then 30 seconds latter connection speed is downgraded to 2 bars. I'm not paying for that type of slack service.

When confronted with the problem Netflix INVARIABLY shunted the blame on to my ISP - my ISP had me  "test" my connection speed etc.and then would proceed to tell me that they were doing no wrong and in turn pass the problem to someone else ....NOTE: I suspect that this problem is due to BOTH Netflix and various ISPs (not necessarily yours but other providers though which your single is routed) may be throttling your active bandwidth and that essentially makes it one of "all of the above" sort of problems that nothing short of a divine miracle can remedy.

Oh yes - one final thing  -  when (and if) you cancel your membership - don't call them and attempt to do it via the phone your account will quite likely remain active (mine did). Go to the Netflix webiste and through your account information do it yourself.

I've had Netflix for about 5 months now, and I've never had a problem with it on XBL...always get 4 bars, or the HD thing..looks great, never choppy.

Checking your ISP speeds tends to be difficult as ISP throttles and actually will increase your speed temporarly at internet speed websites (comcast does this BIG TIME)...

Also what time you are viewing Netflix can increases your chances for the 4 bar to 2 bar hit...

I watch Netflix late at night (midnight) and always get 4 bars... during the day its hit or miss... as my ISP sometimes messes it up...

I'm not defending NETFLIX... they ***-up alot sometimes too... but I think its your ISP or connection problems more than Netflix servers overloading

Sounds to me, the issue is on your ISP or router side. I always have 4 bars, or my HD symbol, so do my fellow Netflix employees. Often time people are qucik to blame us here at netflix, and they can all they want so long as the blame is actually us doing something wrong. But we have strong servers, this is definitely on your end, and your rotuer or ISP. We have few connection hiccups, most of our errors are from missing categories such as 'party' or 'recently viewied' or new tv new film, thats us messing with our code, service issues and lack of connection, thats user end issues....sorry bro, check your router, open that thing up more

I had Roadrunner and would never get 4 bars and it would always reset the speed.  I switched to AT&T and now have 4 bars or HD.  Once in a great while around high traffic time it will go down to 3 bars, but usually resets pretty quick to 4.  I would say it is your ISP.
