Too Human - Useful Tips v2
*I am resubmitting the original guide due to request.

After browsing these forums for quite some time, I noticed people asking similiar questions that aren't fully explained in the manual, or any other faq I've seen, for that matter. There are also things throughout Too Human that alot of people don't figure out until they're 20-30 hours (or more) into the game.

I will be writing useful tips for beginners, as well as people who are already into the game but didn't figure some things out yet. They will start off as beginner tips and transition to more useful ones.

  • Gear is based on color tiers, such as World of Warcraft. From common to most rare, they are :
Grey
Green
Blue
Purple

Orange

Red (epics, extremely rare)

  • You can replay everything, this is a dungeon crawler and that's how it was meant to be played. You can either replay a level by pressing X on any map terminal, or simply going to co-op and playing by yourself (set private slots to 1 so nobody joins).
  • Runes can be inserted into socketed equipment, and follow the same color tier as gear.
  • Blueprints are for purple gear and higher, you need to spend money to craft them (up to 1 million for epics/Aesir items).
  • Charms only have 3 levels: Grey, Purple and Red (epic). Epic ones have long quests but are extremely helpful, aside from their useful passive skills they also add +1 to all your skills.
  •  You'll know when your inventory has reached the limit because it'll say "inventory full."
  • After you complete the first level, you'll be opted to choose an alignment (Cyber or Human). After doing so, you can add skill points to a whole new skill tree by pressing RT in your skill tree menu (alot of people realize this late).
  • You can respec your skills at any time, but every time you respec it will double the price for your next respec. Starts off at 1000 bounty, supposidly ends at 1 mil.
  • You can repair armor at the armor shop; if you're items have 0/3000 "state" (durability) and they're glowing red, then you're going to be very squishy and wonder why you die so fast.
  • Slot your gear with beneficial runes as early as you start to find slotted gear, it really helps and you're going to find an abundance of runes, anyway.
  • You can buy color runes to change the color of your armor.
  • You can buy your epic set weapons at the weapon shop, including guns and misc. weapons that only require being Human or Cyber; go to the weapon shop and browse through the sections of weapons. If there are no epics, simply go to the menu and select "quit game" and reload, rinse and repeat. Shouldn't take to long.
  • You're epic armor set, on the other hand, is much more difficult to obtain. Technically, there are no loot drop tables, so it's assumed the drop rate is random. You can simply do HoH runs, since it's the fastest level, praying that Grendel or a random enemy drops a piece, or you can look into various "farming" ways, such as the 3-4 trick or the spider trick. Look them up with the search button, there are quite a few topics on them. You can also trade for them via co-op, the most common trade is epic for epic.
  • Aesir armor is considered better than epics  because of the number of empty slots in them, allowing you to customize them with epic runes and potentially create better gear. They have 20def less than epics, and also cost 1 mil to craft.
  • No gun is best, every type has it's own specialty (as do weapons). Go to the armor shop and press A on one of the blue terminals around there, it will list them.
  • Rolling is very important in Too Human, it nullifies damage if you time it correctly, as well as nullify being knocked down by annoying things such as a Troll stomp or Goblin rockets. Learn to roll as soon as possible.
  • Rolling can also be used to nullify DoTs (damage over time; poison, fire). It may take a while to learn, but if you time your rolls correctly, you can avoid every tick of the DoT placed on you.
  • Do not take fierce attacks for granted (pushing both sticks up at the same time). They can be very useful for clearing a room full of enemies from afar, and are especially useful with swords/staves. As a Human Berserker, I can clear whole lines of enemies with fierce attacks in no time at all, and since my specialty is melee, that says something. Very useful when dealing with polarity enemies.
  • Finishers are done the same way as fierce attacks, but require an enemy up close.
  • Do Trolls, in general, annoy you? You probably don't know that you can take off their armor with one finisher at any level. Simply jump and do a finisher to remove their main armor, and then mount them from the back to take them out quickly and efficiently.
  • If you answered the question above, you might also not know that you can aim at different parts of their body with a gun, removing more armor and eventually killing them. You don't always have to mount them!
  • Polarity enemies are the ones that are specially colored and explode on contact. You want to kill these from afar because if they explode near you, it can cause status effects. Status effects from the explosion can also harm other enemies. You can also gain status effects from projectiles, so be careful.
Red - fire DoT.
Blue - freezes you and surrounding enemies for a short period of time.
Green - poison DoT (less harmful than fire).
Purple/violet - makes you move and attack slow for a short period of time; snared.
Yellow Green - Gives you an aura that makes you take double damage.
Silver/Gold - Around 10 levels higher then you, beware when fighting these.
  • Polarity trolls are very annoying and need to be dealth with as soon as you see them. You can gain the status effect from their AoE stomp, even if you roll through it (nullifying the damage). Also be wary of mounting a polarity troll, they will explode when you kill them, dealing minor damage and the DoT, if applicable.
  •  Achievements that require killing or collecting multiple of something can be done across all your characters, not just your current.
  •  You must keep salvaging runes to gain the Rune Lore achievement, aquiring new ones simply doesn't replace any you currently have, unless it's a higher tier rune, then it'll push out the lowest level rune you have and replace it. You can only have 60 runes in your inventory at a time.
  •  Buying color runes from the shop count toward your Rune Lore achievement, as well as Archivist of the Aesir. Anything that's obtainable through shops count toward Archivist of the Aesir.
  • Wells seem to give people trouble regarding the achievement to enter all the wells. Some people have more then the number of wells they need, yet it still won't unlock; what you need to do is enter the well in the CAMPAIGN, not by pressing X on a terminal to enter any level, and certainly not by playing co-op. This worked for me as well as two friends, and there's a video of it up on youtube (just dialouge, no actual footage).
  • There are 18 wells in all (please use the sticky above, it lists them later in the guide). Some people check their stats only to see they have 19+ wells and still no achievement; there seems to be a glitch regarding wells not activated in campaign. If anyone has more info on this, post it.

Polarities

Most enemy types are augmented by different variants and polarities, quickly distinguishable from standard units by their color. There are 2 categories of polarity:

1. Light Polarities (illuminated by light color) are highly volatile and explode when defeated, inflictng heavy damage and negative status effects. Use gunfire and fierce attacks against light polarities.
2. Dark Polarities are dark colored, but they begin to illuminate when shot. If you defeat a dark polarity when it is illuminmated, it will explode, causing damage and status effects. Avoid triggering the explosion by attacking dark polarities with melee attacks and Finishers when they are not illuminated. These enemies spawn randomly and more frequently encountered at higher levels.

The enemy colors and effects:

The RED/ORANGE enemies explode, the BLUE/LIGHT BLUE enemies generalyl freeze you, SILVER/GOLD enemies are usually 10 levels above the highest level, and as a result they inflict more damage and more health than standard enemies of the same type. There's a 5% attack-damage penlaty to the player and a 5% attack-damage bonus to the enemy for each level that the enemy is higher than the player. Elite enemies are also 20-percent larger than standard mobs, making them easier to spot in the crowds.

Maroon (Combo Drain) - When this enemy attacks/shoots the player or if this enemy explodes upon death, and player is caught withing blast radius, player loses a large portion of his/her combo meter.

Maroon (Life Drain) - When you get hit by the enemy attacks/blast, the player becomes infected with life drain status effect, percentage of damage received is converted to enemy's health.

Purple (Lightning) - When you get his by this enemy's attack/blast, the player becomes infected with lightning status effect, causing high damage over short period of time.

Orange/Red (NAPALM) - When you get hit by this enemys attack/blast, you get infected with the fire status effect - medium damage over moderate period of time.

Light Blue (NITROUS)  - You get frozen for a short period if hit by this enemy. If any enemy attacks you again, you get unfrozen.

Lime Green (Poison/Poison Fire)  - Player becomes infected by poison upon getting attacked, low damage over long period of time.

Pole (DEFAULT ENEMY COLOR) - Poles are leader-exclusive variations. Light pole leaders knock players down if they attempt to melee attack them. These enemies must be killed with ranged attacks. When facing a dark pole leader, if they player decides to use ballistic attacks, it will charge up not only the leader, but any dark polarity enemy that is near the leader.

Purple (SLOW FIRE) - Player becomes infect with slow fire status effect, severely reducing rate of fire over a long period of time.

Purple (SNARED) - Player becomes infected with the snared status effect causing severely reduced movement and attack speeds.

Yellow (SOFTENED) - The player becomes infected with soften status effect - taking double the damage.

Yellow (UNBALANCED) - The player has a chance of being knocked down when hit by such enemy.

Has anyone figured out what some of the Mastery Runes are for?

By the way...many of you have helped me out with answering questions in a timely, courteous manner, and I have also never experienced a good community such as this one.  Because of that...I'm on the way to getting my last achievement!  This game will be my first 1000/1000.  Anyways, thanks guys.

Re: Too Human - Useful Tips v2
Hmm, someone brave should list all the skills for each of the classes. That way, if you have a mastery rune for some unknown skill, you at least know which class its for.

Not that it matters once (or maybe IF) you get the coveted all skills +1 rune.

Re: Too Human - Useful Tips v2

To everyone wondering about +1 [insert skill here] Mastery runes:

You don't need to worry about which skills are for which class, because all of the +1 [insert skill here] runes are completely useless later on down the line. They're not even that beneficial for a low level.

Say, for example, you have the Mastery rune that gives you +2% weapon speed for a skill in the Zerker class (every +1 mastery rune is orange tier, by the way, with +all skills being red (epic) tier). You'd be much better off slotting it with a simple purple tier +speed rune that gives around 8%, or even a lower blue tier rune that gives 5%, iirc. Of course, it gets even better if you end up slotting it with an epic rune, (15% I think, haven't been able to play in a while so I forget).

I think you get the point. Hope that helps.

That's not entirely true. If you plan to max out your skill tree to a +4 for all skills then yes it's true. But if you plan to max out a certain particular type of skill then the mastery of a given skill is very useful. A prime example would be your a Human Commando that wishes to utilize the plasma gun rather than the slug. You would use the Red mastery's Adept of the Burning Spear +1 twice, Red Mastery's A Need to Survive +1 twice & Wrecker of Mead Halls +1 twice. Then use tier 3 epic charms to max it out to +4. Of course you would then use Epic runes Hybrid Damage, Hybrid Radius, Increased Ammo, Improved Reload Speed to help even further. If you plan to utilize all of the Commandos skills then any other mastery's other than All Skills +1 used twice would be a waste. However using that many mastery's is IMO a waste of rune slots and would be more beneficial going the latter route using Red Mastery All Skills +1.

Never argue with an Idiot. He'll only bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Thanks Illegal for taking the time to write this guide. Very useful information. I'm playing the game for the first time and right now I'm on a Machine planet looking for Loki and I just seem to be dying ALL the time. Those spider robots are the worst. This armour/runes/skill business is complicated and I'm probably not taking advantage of what I have. However your notes have given me some ideas and I'll have another go. Especially the rolling!
Looking forward to:
