Hi I just started to play on the "mentor" difficulty and it feels like the game totally changed. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong because whatever I try to do, I'll get killed - over and over again. If I attack, I get killed. If I block, they use non-blockable attacks or get sprayed with missiles and I get killed . If I dodge, I'll get my quantum singularity full of IS. If I counter-attack, they block and I get killed. The few times I manage to advance is when I'm lucky enough that the enemies dies quickly, which happens all random. Sometimes they die from one slash and the next one can take +10! Suddenly, the game feels like a game of luck instead of skill. I managed to kill the first boss. Only because the killed most of the ninjas with his flying blade attack. I've read lots of tips here at the board but nothing helps. I don't understand why :(

Hehehe, theres nothing wrong with the game. It was designed that way, the difficulty jump from warrior to mentor is enormous but if you keep at it you can beat it. If you get stuck on anything specific then I'm sure the NG community will be mroe then willing to give you advice.

What you are doing wrong is NOT being patient enough! :)

Are you using all the techniques such as guillotine throws, obliteration, ultimate, izuna drops and etc to get those i-frames? Move around all the time in the game and never stand still as the minute you stand still you are dead. A good ninja also knows to use the environment to their benefit against the enemy.

Research this forum like crazy, endure and you will reap the rewards!!!

I've managed to get to chptr 4 or 5 now and now it's much easier :s Chptr 1 and 2 were increadibly more difficult compared to 3 - 5. What's that about? I realized that my biggest problem was that I blocket too much! Anyway, I'm stuck at the water dragon boss. On the earlier difficult settings, you only had to do some slashes on his throat then he died but now I can't even damage him to 50%. What am I suppose to do? @dleLeesiulung "guillotine throws, obliteration, ultimate, izuna drops and etc" I have no idea of what that is. What's i-frames? Thanks.

Use bow UT's (lvl2 charge) for the Water Dragon, once you learn the attack patterns it's very simple to beat with the Bow.

Guillotine Throw = Hit X as you jump towards an enemy.
Obliteration Technique = Press Y next to a maimed enemy for an instant kill. This works on some bosses also.
Ultimate Technique =  Hold Y to charge up to two levels, then release to attack. Absorb Essence with Y to power up your weapon quickly.
Izuna Drop = A piledriving move, check each weapons Techniques for the different Izunas.
i-frames = Invincibility Frames. It's a short window where you are immune to damage. i.e. If you get pinned with an incendiary with good timing you can block and dash through the explosion, or perform a Guillotine Throw, Wall flip etc.

I haven't changed any button configs and default settings are Jump+X for GT and Jump+Y for FS in the UK version,  perhaps it differs by region? The FS scroll shows Y button for me.

Well, actually the guillotine throw is A+X when you jump towards an enemy. Even better is to do the jumping with A+X aswell because Ryu auto aims for an enemy and it has i-frames.

Once I jumped in the air and missed, I landed on the floor and fell off..

I managed to kill the dragon! Unfortunately I'm stuck at the skeleton boss at the moment... I can't get near him to attack because of the swarms of skeleton scorpions. I tried to clear them off with the wind ninpo but they just keep respawning so it doesn't work well. I also tried to just use flying swallow but it doesn't do any good damage. Another tactic was to use a ninpo and then charge a UT with the essence but it doesn't do much damage either. Also if I do it, the boss will just grab me and finish me off. Any tips? I figured out how to use some of the techniques you told me and it worked pretty good. Unfortunately there's no time to do izuna drop when being surrounded.

All you need to do is lure the little skeleton/spiders far away from the boss, then stand behind him and spam XXY with your Lunar Staff. The only move he (should) do is his spin, which you can block. When he falls down, aim at his chest and slightly to your right (his left leg), and continue with your XXY. Alternatively, you can jump XXY when he's down to get pretty much the same effect. Rinse and repeat. If you're low on health near the end, use an Art of the Inferno ninpo to knock off a bit of health and hopefully push you through.

Note that you will NOT get a save point after this boss until you're completely out of the cavern. You still have a number of silver gajas and lots of the little skeleton/spiders to get through. An easy way to dealt with the gajas is to have them spawn in and run backwards, jumping over a gap where they can't move across and get you, then hit them with incendiary shurikens, or you can use Jump+XXY (both XX hits have to connect) to perform an Izuna Drop with your Lunar Staff, which should kill them one hit on Mentor.

You know, I don't even know anymore! Frankly, I made a mistake. I meant to say, guillotine throw is A+X up close to the enemy, but Sigma 2 in the tutorial says A to jump then X+A (mapped to the Xbox controller from the PS3). However, I have always performed it as X+A only up close.

I tried the A to jump then X+A, but it never worked for me.... go figure.

Which was what I said, Jump is A, Jump+X = A+X = Guillotine Throw. There is no need to A then X+A that will cancel the move, simply A then X on launch to connect.

Wow! I didn't know that the Lunar Staff was so good! I could advance to the genshin fight in the airplane with ease. I assumed tjat the Dragon Sword was the best weapons since it'll be level 4 in the end of the game... The schyte worked really well on bigger enemies too. Almost feels like I'm playing on the warrior difficulty again. Thanks for the tips.

You can beat Mentor only using the Lunar Staff, though I personally used the Dragon Sword, Lunar Staff, Scythe, and Tonfas. Anyways, yeah, the Staff is awesome. The 360UT is a lifesaver for sure.

Alright, I'm stuck at Chapter 2 where you are suppose to cross the water and on there's 3 archers on the other side. How am I suppose to dodge that? That's impossible...

Stay on the right side as long as possible, when you're in sight jump (A+X) and do a flying swallow and if all else fails just use ninpo.

If you hold down block while running on water you can turn in any direction instantly. That helps too.
