You should buy one new. That way you don't have to worry about anything. How much money are you really saving getting it off eBay?

Usually it's the console itself that's banned not the HDD, that said, you still run the risk of the previous owner  mistreating it and could be very well purchasing a lemon. Just buy a new one, you'll be better off in the end. Ebay blows...

I wouldn't go that far. I buy and sell most of my games on eBay. As long as there's a pic, games are great to get on there. I wouldn't buy something like a HDD, though.

on the bottom of the HD there is a silver sticker much like the seal on your xbox. it cant be moved or tampered with ...if it has that then you should have no problem

Considering you can get one for as low as $20 on ebay as opposed to the totally fair price of 159.99 from M$, I'd say the only thing you'd have to worry about when buying one new is if M$ will splurge on some lube or if they'll just raw dog you.

I'd just make sure its a real one not a 120gb hdd that was flashed and put into an Xbox HDD case.

You should be fine with a used HDD.  If a console is banned then it's the console, not the HDD.

I'm still kinda worried about my HDD purchase on eBay. It was listed as a brand new, not refurbished 120GB for $62.99 shipped from Hong Kong. It came in some weird box that wasn't the standard sealed clear package that usually requires a chainsaw to open but when I compared it with my 20GB unit all the stickers were identical and intact. So far it's been working perfectly fine *knocks on wood with fingers crossed*.

I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance by fleeing the scene of the accident.

Unless the owner of the HDD you're buying from guarantees a warranty of some sort and confirms that it doesn't have any defects. I would suggest purchasing a new one instead from a retail store.

Pic means nothing on ebay.......You can steal pics off web of almost anything.....
Anyways I bought bubble bobble 2 Nes on ebay from a dude and he had high ratings ect....
Well, he decided to run high end video games and sent me and a few others that won games something else and ebay and paypal said nothing and wouldn't give back my money... A few weeks later and 15 other people ripped off ebay pulled him but, really ebay doesn't care since  they got their cut of the money from the auction listing and the cut from the paypal.  I lost a hunderd bucks and so did those other 15 people.......After that I said goodbye to ebay...
If I wanted reality I'd step outside........

If its just an HD all you have to worry about is the quality of the drive itself. I would recommend formatting it as soon as you get it so that way if there are any files on there that were tampered with will get deleted. So yeah all you really need to worry about is receiving a dead drive. I would recommend buying a new one off ebay if thats where you plan on buying one from. Youll have better luck finding a brand new one thats just marked down in price then risking buying it used. When it comes to the 360 its not wise to buy anything used aside from the games. M$ doesnt have a very good track record of putting out quality hardware since it all dies faster than any other console's hardware.

Re: worried if i buy HDD from ebay my duaghters console will get banned
i would say first of all, disconnect any network adapters or cables from the xbox before turning it on, turn on the xbox 360 with the hard drive attached and format the drive, it is risky to use an xbox 360 hard drive without knowing what the previous owner did with it, disconnecting any network cables while erasing the hard drive will ensure that xbox live will not detect any soft mod,

a soft mod is when you use software to modify the console or accessories for example inserting a usb flash drive or burnt dvd with a modified version of a previous xbox live update.

a hard mod would be for example if the owner opens up the xbox or hard drive in order to alter or modify the system in anyway, usually done when they want to change the color of the LED's of the console or add turbo buttons to a controller.

i do not trust ebay as much as the next guy, but if you do not see any evidence of the hard drive being tampered with and make sure you format the hard drive OFFLINE, you should not have to worry about a console ban.

If you really want to buy a used one and save money Game-stop sells used 120g hard drives for $99.99. That's your best bet i think.

With your spelling, I'd watch throwing that kid comment around, kid. And to answer your question, yes I have Ebay'd in the past, hence, my statement. I'd rather pay full price for something rather than some used crap out of some jackass' attic.
