Dead Space 2 Ideas
I dont know if you guys heard but EA is making a dead space sequal. I have been thinking of different things i would like them to do with said sequal. what kind of changes would you like to see in it? i think a co op mode ranging from 2-4 players would be real cool. like a single player campaign, and then a completely different multiplayer campaign. Also in these campaigns there can be small bonus objectives or side missions where you rescue survivors or obtain special items that will make you primary objectives easier. and maybe a left 4 dead esque survival mode, because ive beaten dead space alot, and sometimes i just play to kill necromorphs. This survival mode of course supporting co op play. i am curious to see what ideas you may have so post if you have an idea.

Urm, I wouldnt personally want co-op, but a seperate survival mode would be cool.
Not much I can think of that I want that wasn't already in dead space. Maybe more Necromorph types, I mean there are almost endless possibilities with what they could do.

I liked the single-player aspect.  It made it spookier, hearing the noises, knowing the attack could come from any direction, knowing you are ALONE.  IMHO, co-op or multi-player would ruin that.  Also, since the aliens pop out of nowhere, often in groups coming from different directions, co-op or multi would probably have some serious problems with "friendly fire."

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.

More guns, more necros, more suits, more story, and I want to hear the playable character talk this time.

The more I play Modern Warfare 2 the worse I do, so the less I play the game the better I will do, right?

Re: Dead Space 2 Ideas
yea i see your point. co op would make it less scary. i guess i was thinking like with co op you wouldnt really travel in pairs, there wouold be many different problems that needed to be fixed and two or four of you had to split up and fix all the problems in seperate locations. but yes friendly fire and the scare aspect would be a problem. i definatley still think a survival mode would be a plus. i love killing those necromorphs. i really hope they increase the amount of gameplay too. dead space was real fun, its a shame it was that short.

I hope they don't lose the "isolated" aspect.  I liked the fact you were *alone* on a deserted space craft.

Some more work on a great story with a twist would be good.

I don't think we need any more weapons to be honest.  In fact the Plasma Cutter was so genius you don't even need any other weapons in Dead Space!

If they add multiplayer, make it a "Horde Mode" only...

Yeah the plasma cutter was a great weapon for sure. If the next game has a character that has a background in mining or whatever I would not mind having that weapon back  Cool [H]

I think Horde would be insane.

But only if it was co-op, as solo would either be too hard or too boring.

Well, as I have been saying on other topics in the Dead Space forums, I belive that a co-op would work if done right. Not a crappy Gears of War Horde style but more where the players have to work togeather to solve puzzels and get off the ship. If done right, I belive it would keep with the style of the game.

Re: Dead Space 2 Ideas
I personaly think Dead Space has just the right amount of character interaction to keep the creepy chilling mood while still feeling comforted at the right moments. I recently took a survey for the next dead space game. Few people got to take this survey; it was either the fact that I put so many hours into the game or the fact that I registered my game with EA, that I had the chance to take it. Most of the questions on the survey were answered on a scale from 1-10. One of the questions was, should there be an online co-op mode in the next game. I voted 1 meaning NO. Another question was, should there be a multiplayer mode I also voted 1. The reson being is that Dead Space is strictly a campaign game and it's a sci fi horror game. If I was playing with some one else this would eliminate the fear factor. I know this becuase I was a huge fan of the Res Evil games. When I beat Res 5 it did not feel like a Res Evil game at all. It just was not scary having a companion with you at all times but it felt great to get back at all the zombies that have been scaring us for years since the genre was created. Dead Space should be handled differently. I also made a sugestion at the end of the survey to change as little as possible and only to add more chapters making the experience last longer. For all those out there who want a more comforting game, Dead Space is not the game for you. Res Evil 5 was the finally to a great genre and I don't think we'll be seeing any more. Dead Space is still fresh and maybe in the future they'll add an online co-op or more character interaction.

The difference between Dead Space and modern Resident Evil is that Dead Space is a horror survaal game, were as modern Resident Evil is just a zombie gore-fest. There is no horror involved anymore so I think that peoples oppintion on Dead Space having mutiplayer is curroupted from that.

actually, i completely agree with you about re5. it really didnt feel like resident evil. resident evil used to be survival horror but ever since re4, it just has not felt like true resident evil. and now that i think about it, co op would inevitably do the same with dead space. but i certainly hope they continue making resident evil games, but this time they make them like the classic re's that we grew up loving so much. haha i love how i talked more about resident evil than dead space in this post.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but a sequel is no longer a certainty.  Yes, they announced back in October (or was it September?) that they had plans.

Then the bloodbath happened.  EA laid off loads of people and closed big studios; even the people responsible for Spore, and they promised the entire Command and Conquer team they would be released as soon as they were done with the newest installment.
They have said that they are now circling the wagons and plan to focus only on projects that are guaranteed big sellers.  That is, established franchises with yearly iterations.  (So, look for sports, some of Bioware's stuff, and The Sims, and perhaps not much else.)
This means they're abandoning the previous philosophy of supporting new IP.
Now, Dead Space was a moderate hit, but EA is talking like anything that hasn't sold 2 million is potentially on the chopping block.
If you go here:  http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/336780.page
Jack606 has some solid insight on the situation.  (and, thankfully SOME hope)

My suggestion for a sequel?

Make one.

Good news:  I just found this on Kotaku:  http://kotaku.com/5405070/job-listing-says-dead-space-2-will-have-multiplayer

Looks like there will be a DS2

Re: Dead Space 2 Ideas
Multiplayer for a game like Dead Space will be a waste. The virtue of the game is the singular horror that the player experiences...no wonder Isaac went crazy. I would rather the firm use the resources necessary to develop and maintain a multiplayer setup for instead developing a truly good story and gameplay. The developers of Dead Space had a really good idea and managed to bring their vision to marketplace and make it work. I would hope that EA has the foresight to repeat the process and not succumb to the multiplayer fad of the moment.

The problem with most multiplayer game experiences is that it requires a LOT of resources to make the thing work. Not just to maintain the site players can access, but...to maintain interest of the players, resources have to be spent to continually improve and expand the multiplayer universe. Look at what Halo is doing and ponder whether you think EA will be able to do that for Dead Space 2, OR do you think it will become just another place that no one goes to. I like the Overlord games; less than 6 months after OL 2 is on the streets, you cant find anyone to play the multiplayer setup.

As for ideas for DS2...I would like to see some achievements set aside for timed runs through some of the levels, similar to what the Lara Craft games have done. In several chapters of DS there is an imperative that Isaac get his assignment completed within some period of time...Get the ADS working before ship is torn apart...get teh antenna array working before the Valor opens the contaminated escape pod...get the ship engines back on line before the orbit decays too much...the imperative is lost in the current version of the game. We can leisurely explore, drink coffee and marvel at the graphic arts, and that is also important, since the player needs to figure out where to go, what to do, etc. But after having done that...it would be fun to play some of these chapters in a timed mode to see if Isaac CAN accomplish the impossible....hallucinating or not :)

Oh, I agree. I'm not terribly fond of the idea of MP in DS. Just as I'm more than a little squeamish when viewing Bioshock's MP trailer. Having said that, if that's what it takes for EA to feel as though a sequel is viable, then I'm all for it. Whatever it takes to get DS2 on store shelves. (Just so long as the SP doesn't suffer.) As for a real idea, I think I'd like to play a scenario where things are just starting to fall apart...while you are playing. Start off researching events or whatever, and then the *** starts to hit the fan. I liked DS and how you showed up after the events. I like piecing things together like that, but I also wouldn't mind being in the middle of the "collapse".
