I tried using a 48 hour trial for an account for a friend and it did not work, It still shows it as being silver. I can not use the card again as it says it's been used even though it has done nothing. I'd like some help.

Try having him sign in and out again or Recover his Gamertag to the console again.

That is because the 48 hour trial cards do not upgrade you to Gold. They just allow the silver accounts to play the online multiplayer side of things for that set time.
