Here is what worked for me.
1. Unplug all the USB peripherals that are currently plugged into the PC.
2. Turn off and reboot.
3. When you return to Windows, connect the xbox controller first. This worked for me
4. Plug in the rest of your stuff.
I got this method to work for me. Also, it will reconnect once you disconnect it. you dont have to restart again
w00t! thank you sooooooo much =D, ive been trying everything for hours, and this is finaly lucky number 1397.... again, thanks, and everyone else try this.
Unfortunately, when I plug in my other usb devices afterwards, the wireless receiver stops working again... This whole situation is fairly ridiculous. Microsoft should NOT have released this thing with this many issues.
Like a lot of people, I spent a long time trying to get it to work, but the controller would always try to synch up and fail in the process. Finally, I unhooked everything, rebooted the computer, synched the receiver and the controller as XP was booting up, and it worked. Great... After experimenting with a couple of usb devices and ps/2 devices, I figured out that my Microsoft IntelliMouse USB was causing the conflict!! Microsoft's own hardware is conflicting with the receiver! That is so freaking stupid.
My roommate let me borrow a crappy ps/2 mouse, and it doesn't conflict with the receiver. The MAJOR problem here is that I'm going to use my Intellimouse along with my usb joystick, logitech wheel, rudder pedals, trackir, printer, wacom tablet, etc etc etc, and I can't play this game of disconnecting all my usb devices, rebooting the computer, and timing the controller synch perfectly. Even better is the fact that when I turn off one of my controllers, the receiver stops working... There's no replugging the receiver or anything... oh no... I have to reboot the computer again to resynch all the controllers I'll be playing with. Awesome.
We need to be able to use whatever usb devices we want, add or delete whatever controllers we want, and plug in the receiver whenever we feel like. Anything less is Microsoft shafting us out of twenty bucks.
