Well, it certainly seems to be Logitech SOMETHING causing the problem..

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Hi guys...got mine today and had the same problems...turns out that it could be other USB joysticks / controllers / keyboards already plugged in causing the problems. I have noticed the green light goes out on the receiver when its properly connected with a device. I did have these connected to my PC to start with all hogging USB ports:

  • Microsoft Sidewinder Joypad
  • Saitek Evo Pro
  • Logitech Cordless Keyboard & Mouse

I decided to reboot and pull out all USB devices and then plugged in the Crossfire receiver into its own port. I also changed my USB keyboard / mouse to a PS/2 converter. After a reboot the receiver found the wheel during Windows XP boot up. I then tested my official MS steering wheel in Flatout (PC racing game) and it worked a treat (after remapping the controls...) I then put all my other joysticks back in and everything seems ok...just need to try my Xbox 360 wireless gamepad as well :-)

I think the common problem here is Logitech devices.  I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo and i'm having the same problems.

Sadly, it is not, because I don't have any logitech devices.  I do have a wireless MS mouse and a Saitek keyboard though...

My guess is that it is the keyboard.

You cannot simply correct this 'problem'. The trigger buttons are pressure sensitive and therefore by using them as a Z-Axis this can be interpreted by the PC. Once new games start to be released with the Games for Windows branding that use Microsoft's new DirectX Controller Library we'll see much better support for the controller. Remember, this is an early adopter product that will rely heavily on the Live Anywhere system that is to be released later.

Gonna add that I've also been having trouble with the reciever I bought today.

It only works when I don't have my Saitek Gaming Keyboard plugged in. Gonna love driver conflicts Sad [:(]

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
The "problem" doesn't even lie in the drivers released for this thing, the "problem" lies in stupid companies being too lazy to just include something like universal joypad configuration for their games.   I'll give you a first hand example.  I have the controller installed and same thing for me, the LT/RT is recognized as an axis, and having SOME issues with the right analog as people have stated:

I've tested this controller with GTR 2, NHL 07, FIFA 07, MVP 05, and miscellaneous emulators:

- ALL of the emulators work absolutely perfectly, every button and analog is noticed
- GTR 2 = Perfect
- Now, of course, we get to EA Sports.  Guess where this is going?

MVP 05 - Works absolutely perfect, believe it or not.  But this is due to the fact that MVP actually included a config. file for the controller so you can map it all correctly yourself without having to rely on programming.

NHL 07 - I can PLAY the game, but the LT/RT & Right analog are not noticed.  It's not a huge deal because I can use all the buttons to properly play the game, but still doesn't work as it did before.

FIFA 07 - Here's the kicker.  FIFA 07 recognizes this controller as TWO controllers.  So when I'm in the game, picking teams, it has me picking both sides at the same time.  At the controller select screen, two different  controllers move to whichever side I choose.  And In-Game, it actually has me controlling 2 different players at the same time.  Needless to say, it's unplayable.

So we have 1 company, 3 different sports games, and 3 different results in testing.  Unbelievable.  But really not when you consider the source (EA Sports.)  I don't fault Microsoft AT ALL for this.  I fault lazy companies who can't do something as basic as making a universal controller configuration for their games, when you have, oh I don't know, like 20 different controllers that could be used for PC games?  If not more?   Whether the LT/RT are recognized as axis' or not, they should still WORK in games.   It's just flat laziness from a company with absolutely unlimited resources, and of course they're not the only guilty party here.

What I would like someone to explain to me is though how is it that people who make emulators for FREE in their spare time and smaller companies like the GTR producers can find a way to make perfect controller configurations, but a company like EA Sports just can't find the time to make controllers work in something as important as a sports game, which is really the only genre of games on the PC where a controller is more or less required.  It's pathetic.

My guess is that it is the keyboard.
I think the problem is the HID USB drivers that get installed with the accompanying device. When I plug my Belkin USB KVM switch in it installs 4 or 5 additional HID devices. Two keyboars two mice plus additional KVM HID, and these conflict. Why don't they address this problem?

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Sorry for the double post, but I did get it to work once, and it was by removing my saitek keybaord, and pulling all the devices out and having it only detect my MS mouse and my MS wireless reciever... alas, when I plugged my Saitek Eclipse II back in (which is nice for playing games in the dark btw), it stopped working again...  I wonder if there is even a software patch that they can make for it, or if it's just a hardware conflict we have to live with (good thing I saved my reciept).

I never imagined that I'd have a problem like this with this device, I had such high hopes.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

I can't get it to work either

Green light on receiver flashes, then pressing the button on the controller....the lights on the controller spin around, then just flash.
When I hit the button on the controller, the receiver stop flashing, so they're talking to each other in some way. I don't know what would be interfereing with it though.
Only wireless deviices in my apartment are:
-playstation 3 controller (uses bluetooth, but wasn't on anyway)
-wirelress phone
-wireless internet router (its a good 3 feet away from that)

This thing is probably heading back to the store. Its annoying that I have to unplug my xbox 360 as well, or it will turn on..GRRRR

I have the same issue and found that my razer copperhead mouse is the problem. If I disconnect the mouse and reboot everything works fine until I plug the mouse back in. Happens on Xp and Vista. Still have found no fix for it yet.

How do they expect us to play a PC game with no mouse plugged in? Keyboard, even worse.
I don't see why I should even bother trying unplugging stuff, since that causes another problem. grrrr

I've tried unplugging all the USB devices and rebooting, and finally it syncs, but what kind of solution is that? When I plug in anything to any USB with the receiver plugged in, problems return.

What's even "funnier" is if you try to do a search on M$'s support site for anything about this device... it's like it doesn't even exist.  I would *LIKE* to keep this thing, because in THEORY it's a great piece of hardware, but as it stands right now, my window of opportunity to return it is getting smaller and smaller, so I may just return it and wait 6 months for them to get their heads out of their @$$3$ and fix this thing.

I totally agree but in the mean time it's either take the unit back or attempt to live with it's faults. In my case I've decided to set up a remote desktop connection between my 'work system' and my play system. Since this will allow me to still use this computer minus the USB Belkin KVM switch. Seems the only way, and I'm still angry at MS.

Mine refuses to sync unless I start my PC without my Logitech Bluetooth USB-hub (for a Dinovo keyboard/mouse (mx1000) set) connected. But once I plug in my bluetooth USB stick from logitech it looses it's sync again.

BTW this video shows the issue (I didn't make it but I have the exact same issue).

Has anyone found a way to get the triggers recognised as buttons with this thing? Someone mentioned it wasn't an easy fix. But the wired 360 pad when used on the pc sees the triggers as buttons just fine. Very strange decision that MS took with this. And very annoying. I wanted to play FFXI on my PC, and although on the 360 you can use the triggers as buttons in the game, ironically MS have stopped me doing the same on my PC. Fools!

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems
what I did, was mod the piece of cable between the xbox connector and the break-away connector to have a USB end on it instead of xbox standard; now I can plug any xbox controller into my pigtail and use it on the PC; and just by using a unmodded xbox pigtail can also use it on an xbox.......... (this is in regards to modding an original xbox controller to use on a PC)

Unfortunately, when I plug in my other usb devices afterwards, the wireless receiver stops working again...  This whole situation is fairly ridiculous.  Microsoft should NOT have released this thing with this many issues.

Like a lot of people, I spent a long time trying to get it to work, but the controller would always try to synch up and fail in the process.  Finally, I unhooked everything, rebooted the computer, synched the receiver and the controller as XP was booting up, and it worked.  Great...  After experimenting with a couple of usb devices and ps/2 devices, I figured out that my Microsoft IntelliMouse USB was causing the conflict!!  Microsoft's own hardware is conflicting with the receiver!  That is so freaking stupid.

My roommate let me borrow a crappy ps/2 mouse, and it doesn't conflict with the receiver.  The MAJOR problem here is that I'm going to use my Intellimouse along with my usb joystick, logitech wheel, rudder pedals, trackir, printer, wacom tablet, etc etc etc, and I can't play this game of disconnecting all my usb devices, rebooting the computer, and timing the controller synch perfectly.  Even better is the fact that when I turn off one of my controllers, the receiver stops working...  There's no replugging the receiver or anything... oh no...  I have to reboot the computer again to resynch all the controllers I'll be playing with.  Awesome.

We need to be able to use whatever usb devices we want, add or delete whatever controllers we want, and plug in the receiver whenever we feel like.  Anything less is Microsoft shafting us out of twenty bucks.
