Just a followup to my previous post.  I spoke to a customer service rep who said that he was fairly certain it was my av cable.  I admit I am dubious, but it is still under warrenty, so I am going to send my cord in and get a free replacement.

It seems like if it was the cord it would be a consistant issue as opposed to an intermitant one (although it is getting more consistant).  I'll update the board on what happens when I get the new cord.

Well, I went and bought all new cables and it did nothing.  I wish you luck, but several others like me have explained replacing the cables (on this and other boards).

i'am haveing the same problems, my nephew turn my xbox on 3 days ago and said that he hears the audio but no picture. I turned it on yesturday and got picture and audio played yesturday and today turned it off and went to play it again a lil while ago. What do u think happened all black screen with lil white dots floating around. I sent it back about 2 months ago becouse it broke my mlb2k7 and wouldn't play any games. Now i have to send it back again less then 2 months after i sent it in already and if they think im gonna pay a $140 bucks they are crazyyyyyyyyyyyyy.. Bill Gates should start taking some of his own money and giveing it back to the ones who spent $500 bucks on it and get nothing but problems,or maybe he should go out and send us all a new xbox360 .. or maybe just trash the whole thing cause i know there are gonna be more problems after this one ...... will never buy another game or console from microsoft ..........

This happened to my 360 also and I was told to try a different cable which of course, didn't work so now I have to pay 140 to have my xbox repaired.  GREAT.  Thanks MS because I know you are really in need of the 140 you suck from the thousands of people that are having problems with the crap you sold them.

i so aint buying forza 2 and if your console is still under warranty which for the UK is 12 months then just take it back to the shop as they are required by law to replace it, infact UK law states that any electrical equipment has to last a minimum time in ratio to retail cost so i would guess the shop would have to replace a 360 of upto 3 years old.

I would say of all the posts that I have read on this site and on some other sites everyone who got a a new a/v cable from M$ replied later on that it wasnt the cable and that they were now waiting on the coffin but i truly hope for your sake that is truly is the a/v cable and not a video card problem like the rest of us because I was informed today that I will be reciving a refurbished console instead of my original which im not superstitious but i will knock on wood that I will not have any more problems with this one.

can i have my membership for this club.  just turned on my system after my son had been playing earlier today.  nothing but a black screen but I have audio.  there is no way that this many people could have the same problem pop up within the last couple of days.  and the fact that microsoft has not responded to this problem pisses me off even more.  i am considering trading this in for a wii real soon if something is not done.

Re: no video but i have audio

This happend to my launch box 2 days after the halo3 beta started, i tried everything from new cords to the towel trick, and have had no luck, i havnt had the money to send it off and my warrenty expired in november. But i get paid today and will fork over the cash. but i am not getting the white dots, i am just getting purple lines across the screen. at least I'm not the only one this has happend to. I'd feel better sending it off and paying for it if i had the red rings of death tho.

Re: no video but i have audio
I've suffered the same problem. Was playing Call of Duty 3 and the graphics became distorted and displayed a yellow hue. I turned off and then on again a couple of times but the problem persisted. I then disconnected everything and reconnected and now I get no video signal yet I can hear the audio fine. I am connecting via VGA.

Also, for those claiming it must be conncected to an update released by Microsoft - I haven't been online with the 360 for at least 6 months due to moving my router to another room and not having the wireless adapter.

My console was bought at launch, and suffered a red light of death after around 3-4 months. I haven't suffered any further problems since, but I am grudging paying for a repair if this is a known fault, as it appears to be.

yeah, like I said, I am dubious as to this being an actual fix, but I guess we will see.

Oddly, after I called customer support and arranged to get a new cable I started playing and didn't have any issues.  It really is hit or miss with mys system.  However, I suspect that is simply because it is in the initial stages of melting down.

Ditto - I was playing Oblivion and my screen turned blue.  I tried different TVs, I tried a different cable and still no picture.  I came here looking for a solution and now I'm really pissed that others have the same issue.  I have a lot invested in my 360, 20 games, fan, HDDVD Player, HDDVDs, Zune, rechargable battery pack and I have spent at least a hundred bucks in the Market place.   Come on Microsoft, you're big...take ownership and offer a solution that won't break into everyones pocketbook.

Well, I guess I need to be added to the list too. I was playing Forza 2 when it happened three weeks ago, decided to leave it there for a week. After the week, I check back and realized that it made things worse, the black screen with the white dots floating across the screen showed up. I don't really want to call Microsoft and waist 140! I think I'll rather wait to see if anybody finds a way to fix it, or I'll have to find it myself. Sad [:(]

Re: no video but i have audio

Another 360 to add to this growing list of "no video but i have video."  About 10 days ago (6/18 maybe) red and green screen flickers showed up during COD3 with no prior problems whatsoever in the past 14 months (yes, you're right, the warranty just expired in April)...about a week later no video at all, but audio is just fine. Called 1-800-4MY-XBOX.  The rep was somewhat reluctant to admit it was a problem with the console and encouraged me repeatedly to buy, borrow or steal (maybe not steal) new a/v cables.  Tried new cables on the standard TV setting as suggested and there was no change.

As others have mentioned, I agree there are far too many cases for this to be a coincidence and is a direct result of hardware design flaw inherent with the product.  I'm now half expecting MS to step up like a responsible corporate citizen to resolve this at no expense to the consumer, but reality tells me to be ready to part with $139.90. Maybe I'll hold off until September for a minor title being released around then.  In the meantime, I can save a few bucks by cancelling Live and apply it to the repair.

Re: no video but i have audio

I have had this twice in one year!  It is a graphics card fault as far as I can find out from Dixons/currys who have been very helpful.  Both times with mine the screen has gone kinda pixilated and funky colours then just lost video all together!

Lets just hope number 3 360 lasts a little longer!

Add me to the list, I was playing Carcassonne last night. When the screen started breaking up and the colors started getting distorted. I kept playing then the screen blacked out and flickered back on. Finally the screen just went dark, I restarted the console and played another game with no problems. I have a feeling my system is at deaths door, this will be my fourth repair.

Just an update - my 360 is officially bricked with 3 red lights of death and the 0102 secondary code. Off it goes to the repair shop! Shame too, because I only ever really play games during the summer.

Re: no video but i have audio
I've had this same problem on a few random occasions with my one month old 360. I would turn on my console and everything would be working fine except with no video. That has probably happened about three times. Just today though I got a different problem. Playing Gears, suddenly a sort blue tinted static comes over everything. On all instances, just restarting a few times and messing with the video cable has fixed it, but it does concern me.

My first 360 died after just two days, and now this has me concerned that my second (which is only a little more than a month old) might not be long for this world. I just can't believe this. I have owned so many video game consoles over the years along with many other electronics, and never have I had anything that suffered from such poor construction and chronic critical failures.

Add me to the list to because i hear audio no video and i've got the 360 red ring of death, well there goes $140 for a repair and this was my first of the original launch console and never had any probems until yesterday, then i find out they cancelled the repair it for free if it was made in 2005 like 2-3 months ago. MS you've got some explaing to do, out with it i say. I have the elite as well i am so hoping that it does not die of the same cause,  ive been hearing weird sounds coming from it lately, thank god i bought the warranty for that at least and am covered on it until may 2010. As for my other launch console, well let's just say that warranty expired just last christmas. MS needs to let us get them repaired for free too many people are having the same problem!!!!!!

Well add me to this sad list of gamers. Playing guitar hero got tints of blue and yellow. Next day tried to play again got no video just sound. I tried switching tvs and reseting the to default resolution settings and neither worked. I am currently on hold with Xbox support hoping to get a solution but I am doubtful. It would seem that with so many people having the same problem at the same time someone at microsft could diagnose the problem?

well, add me as well to the list of growing problems, as i am experiencing the same audio with no video problem. and of course i bought my xbox just over 13 months ago so im going to have to pay the £85 to get it fixed. its a load of bollocks, ive kept my 360 in such good condition and now when i have alot of free time on my hands and ready for gaming it craps out on me. looks like my Wii will be getting alot more action i expected.

I too suffer from this affliction.  Mine went out a couple weeks ago whilst enjoying some R6:V.  Tried different cables (I have more than 1 360) and TVs to no avail.   Finally, I called MS today and they are shipping out a box..blah blah blah...this sucks.

Re: no video but i have audio
Add me to the list.  Colors are all distorted everywhere with massive ghosting; games, videos, everything.  Attempting to play a DVD gives me a "No Signal" or "Out of Range" message.  I still have video output for the dashboard and games at the moment but I'm not sure how long its going to last.  It started while I was playing GHII if that helps.  The distortion also seems to be worse with dark colors, greens, and blues on mine.  I've had my 360 since launch and have never had a problem with the console itself, though the fact that its happening to a lot of people at the same time though suggests that this might be a software problem.  Has Microsoft released any background patches or updates in the last few days?
