Ok, I just got a xbox 360 elite edition last and started playing halo 3 rigtht. But  everytime I try to play it just disconnects me. Well if you have a CG814WG v2 from comcast, it will not work. Why, I have no freaking idea. All i know is that i have to get another router. Which i am going to buy, and im looking for reccomondations.

What is the router out there for xbox live?

One of these for sure.  <=Link.  I personally really like the Linksys, I have two of them.  I have a BEFSR41 (v4), and a WRT54GS.  I have never had a problem with either of them.  Very easy install, never had a problem with NAT, and if you go wireless, easy to set security up on.

stormin morman are you sure? about that router because i was playing last night and it worked but now after i play a game of halo 3 i get disconnected and have to go to ''test xbox live connection'' and then it works for 1 game and i have to repeat this step and im trying to fix this. btw this is a routet and modem in one my family got from comcast and it says on that guide^ that its compatible

please help i wanna play xbox live without going to the dash board after everygame

Yea it keeps disconnected me when ever i start a game of halo 3 on xbox live. That is why i want a differnt one. And yes the router i have says it is compatible with xbox live, but obvious not for halo 3. I have been tring to contact both microsoft and bungie but they never give a staright answer on what to do.

Oh and how do u hook up xbox live to a modem. It says that it has no MPU or what ever is below the dns check thing on test connection.

Hey, I'm having a little bit of trouble connecting to xbox live on Halo 3.  When I try to use my gamer profile it says NOT ALLOWED, that I don't have permission to use xbox live on that profile, even though I bought and redeemed my 12 month membership card.  What should I do?  Sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread...

I have a question: how come when i plug in my router and run through the cd it keeps telling me i have no internet connection when my dsl box is connected, and the internet led on the router is on? this happens when it runs the internet connectivity test towards the end.  *my router is a linksys  BEFSR41

septhiroth i think your profile might be set to strict (if your under the age 18) you will need your parents to change the settings to your xbox to allow you to connect

I guess I'm not too sure.  Mine was pretty much plug and play.  I guess try checking the online help, as well as the router's help.

Yeah, that's the basics, and a good job I might add :]
but, can anyone help me?

I have a 360 and a PS3. When I play the ps3 online, my router NEVER resets, I can play 32 ppl online on resistance. But when I play anything other than gears, my router resets! A 4 person halo 3 game disconnects me ftw!! I have a netgear router and my isp comcast says I can't use a 3rd party router. Am I screwed? if you know anything that would help, please tell me.

I think you mean 3rd party modem because comcast doesn't supply routers as part of a package. Are you using the modem they gave you? If not it could explain why you might drop connections based on host.

I dunno, I have a Linksys WRTG something right here, but it doesn't work with the modem they supplied me with. But yeah, they supplied me with a router too, a netgear c48 something, it says its compatible on that list

If your computer is wirelessly connected to your home network and you have an extra ethernet port open then you can use a process called bridging to connect to your network. Heres shadow's site with a link

For some reason I cannot connect to Xbox Live, and its been doing this since I got it back from microsoft last thursday. I never tried to connect to Xbox Live before I sent it in, and when I get it back I try to connect to Xbox live and it says I am unable to...So I tested the connection and it shows everything is wired and working but when it gets down to Xbox Live it says "Failed" and when I check status to see what went wrong it just has a blank box. Anyone know what to do to fix this?

Looking at the technical issues forum there are multiple instances of this test failing today. Best guess somthings gone wrong and the operations team hasn't given support the memo yet which is why kanen is still replying with the standard check your router responces. Give it a few hours and check back. Sorry.

Looks like its not on the live end itself its certain ISPs. Please follow the instructions given by the support reps if you've talked to any ( try direct connecting to the modem if its possible). You might want to contact your ISPs tech support.

I have a westell wirespeed modem. it only has one ethernet port so i unplug my pc and plug it into my xbox. i power cycle and test connection and i fail the ip test. i tried taking the ip from my pc but then i fail the dns server. then i take the ip and dns server numbers from my pc and i still fail. do i have to buy a router, or a modem with another ethernet port?if not plz give me extremely detailed instructions on what to do. i am a tech noob. thank you very much for the help.

Change your settings to automatic. The modem's only going to give you one set of information. Once its back on automatic plug in the ethernet from the modem and reset the power on it.

Ok, mine is not working....
I have a modem
LAN HUB
3 Ethernet cables

Ok setup:
1 Ether net is plugged into the modem to the HUB
2nd is plugged from HUB to my computer
and 3rd Ethernet is plugged from HUB to Xbox...

And it ALWAYS says my DNS fails...
